CASology – Africa

It is time for a new CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – AFRICA!

Here is my take:

Wild & Crazy | by karen h @ carefree creations

I love pattern paper – I have so much it is ridiculous….but I hardly ever use it (it isn’t really conducive to keeping a card CAS). But I have learned some tricks for using it in small doses. The easiest way is to contain it. In this card I die cut a window and the pattern peeks through that negative space.

CC&S #318 – Happy Hour

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Happy Hour | by karen h @ carefree creations

I used a flat photopolymer stamp to do mirror stamping of the mug. The filler image is inked with all 3 colors. The mugs are fussy cut (getting inside those handles was hard, but with lots of patience I got it done).

A Little About the Challenge: This weekly challenge is posted on Tuesday, and alternates between color and sketch (if there is a 5th week in the month you get the double dose of color & sketch).

Ink: Tuxedo Black (Momento); Crushed Curry, More Mustard, Delightful Dijon (SU);

CASology – Leap

It is time for a new CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – Leap!

Here is my take:

Leap of Faith | by karen h @ carefree creations

Leap immediately made me think frogs. I love frogs, but I only have two frog sets. I chose to use this old one. Then I actually found I have a sentiment with the word “leap” in it.

The lily pad and frog are fussy cut.

The card needed a little touch of something, so I added the stitched frame. I used the same color cardstock as the base to keep the CAS style intact.

CC&S #317 – 4th of July

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Fourth of July Ribbons | by karen h @ carefree creations

My first thought with these colors was to use comic-book style explosion dies…but since I did that recently (with colors very similar), I decided to go with a 4th of July card instead.

The ribbon cuts are from 1 die, but I cut it in half so I could slide the ribbons apart to make room for the blue panel.

CASology – Plastic

It is time for a new CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – Plastic!

Here is my take:

Sympathy | by karen h @ carefree creations

When I saw this week’s cue I immediately thought of this technique. It’s a pretty easy technique – just take a piece of plastic wrap, scrunch it up, ink it up, and use it to “stamp” on paper.

My original plan was to stamp the botanicals with black as a silhouette, but when it came time to stamp them, it felt that would be too bleak. I used colors from the technique instead.

With Sympathy
Stamps: Botanicals 2 (Paper Smooches); Keep it Simple: Sympathy (Papertrey Ink – PTI);
Ink: Limeade Ice (PTI); Lucky Limeade, Lost Lagoon (Stampin’Up);
Paper: White (PTI);
Other: plastic wrap;

CC&S #316 – Picnic Greetings

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Picnic Greetings | by karen h @ carefree creations

I decided this sketch is a great one for incorporating pattern paper (which for CAS cards, I prefer to limit pattern paper to just a bit). I had about 10 different packs of paper on my desk before I could narrow it down! This picnic tablecloth pattern really called my name, so I went with it.

The burger and ant/sentiment are fussy cut. For the ant/sentiment, I used my trimmer to get the straight lines above and below the sentiment then fussy cut around the ant. The ant/sentiment is popped up over everything.

You Make My Heart Happy

You Make My Heart Happy | by karen h @ carefree creations

I made this card for this week’s CC&S challenge, but afterwards I realized I used the wrong purple – argh! But I like it, so I decided to post it anyway.

It did take some work for me to like the card. Originally the card felt very flat (not to mention, there is a touch of purple on the peach butterfly’s top/right wing):

To help fix it, I added some washi under the sentiment and a sprinkle of sequins (one conveniently over the ink oops).

You Make My Heart Happy
Stamps: Flutter (Close to My Heart); Because You (My Favorite Things);
Ink: Grapefruit Grove, Highland Heather (SU);
Paper: White (Papertrey Ink); Granny Apple Green (SU);
Other: sequins (Simon Says Stamp); Shape ‘n Tape washi (We R Memory Keepers);

CASology – Burst

It is time for a new CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – Burst!

Here is my take:

Wow! You did it! | by karen h @ carefree creations

When I first saw the cue was “burst” – using these explosion images was my first thought. I went with the classic comic book colors. The layered bits are fussy cut.

CC&S #314 – Thank You

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Thank You | by karen h @ carefree creations

This stamp set made me think about Papertrey’s Cutaway Tags dies. Sadly, I don’t have those. But as I looked through my index, I found a sentiment split set that worked really well.

I recently purchased some watercolor pens and decided to give them a try on this card.
