Halloween Watchers

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Halloween Watchers | by karen h @ carefree creations

My mojo was starting to wane when I made this. Originally I was going to try to make something other than a Halloween card….but decided it wasn’t worth hurting my head over.

I love how this turned out! I bought this set when it went on clearance sale months ago – and I bought it to make a card just like this (I love all those eyes!!).

I did end up using a different purple because I really do not like the Fig color. Razzleberry is fairly similar but just seems a bit brighter purple.

I stamped the eyes in visual triangles by color.

Hugs Can Heal

It is time for a new CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – HEAL!

Here is my take:

Hugs Can Heal | by karen h @ carefree creations

My favorite colors are blue & green. For a “heal” cue word, I thought those colors would be perfect. Since the card is supposed to bring a bit of happiness, I made the sentiment a color from the other side of the color wheel.

Flowers & Bees

And here is my take:

Flowers & Bees | by karen h @ carefree creations

This was a fun sketch! I was made this card a month ago while it was hot so my card reflects that summer feel.

To help make it all feel a bit more cohesive, I added black lines to the bee butts to help make a triangle with the black sentiment.

Birthday Pansy

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Birthday Pansies | by karen h @ carefree creations

Yellow and purple are always a hard combo for me. But then I remembered pansy flowers! The only stamp set I have with pansies is an old collection of small images. I used the ink to watercolor the images (using grey for the leaves).

To work in the blue from the challenge palette, I die cut a fancy frame and stamped the sentiment.

I chose to flip the corner of my card up. Keeping all the images together leaves lots of white space.

Stay Cocky | by karen h @ carefree creations

These warm colors had me thinking summer, but as I was looking through my stamp index and saw the rooster, I knew it would be perfect!

So I wasn’t sure whether I should stamp or die cut first. I chose to stamp. Bad choice. Next time I think I’ll stamp the chicken body, die cut it, then add the legs.

Dance is a Sport

It is time for a new CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – SPORTS!

Here is my take:

Dance | by karen h @ carefree creations

My daughter took ballet for years. Dance is most definitely a sport! Also – So You Think You Can Dance is currently on television – one of our favorite shows!!

I was very inspired by Janet’s card a few months ago. I loved the elegant color scheme with the gold looking like it was painted on.

To make my card, I die cut the ballet dancer from white card stock, then used a dimensional paint to cover the bits I wanted to glue the foil to. [Side note: I meant to use a Heidi Swapp paint, but grabbed the wrong tube – but this paint stuff worked wonderfully.] After it dried, I placed my foil on it and ran it through a laminator.

The sentiment and dancer are both double layered, with the back layer being from black card stock – which helps both stand out from the background.

I still wanted a bit of something to help the dancer stand out, with my daughter’s help, I chose a stencil and a light pink ink to add some design.
