Oceans of Joy

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Oceans of Joy | by karen h @ carefree creations

A seahorse is not an animal I would normally think of for pink. I was looking up ocean animals for another project and saw a pink seahorse and knew I would use that for this challenge!

To stamp the seahorse, I stamped the base layer with a second-generation inking. The second layer is a full-strength inking. The third layer (hard to see as it isn’t much) I used the same grey as the sentiment.

Wavy Rainbow Thanks

Wavy Rainbow Thanks | by karen h @ carefree creations

The other day was Admin Professionals Day. I needed a few thank you cards. I chose to make 4-bar size. I wasn’t able to get decent photos of most of them, but I did get a good photo of my last card.

I spent and hour or so coloring the panel, so I’m glad the photo came out. One disclaimer though – the card I gave did not have the center to the O. I’m still not sure how I knew to keep the center of the A, but not the O…sigh. For my post I edited the image to include the center. I had taken a photo of the colored panel before I cut it, so I was able to merge the two images.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Thank You

So Happy for You

Today is Papertrey’s April Blog Hop.

Papertrey Ink Blog Hop

The inspiration is a beautiful piece! I was going to use tea cups on my card, but got sidetracked by the top cup. I loved the border of flowers separating the blue & white. That is what I went with:

You Rock!

It is time for another CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – Active!

My computer crashed last week. I’m hobbling along on a spare (yes, I am VERY thankful we have a spare). I don’t have my normal applications. To edit my photo I used a really awesome free online photo editor…but I don’t know how to use it, lol. Please forgive the lack of color adjustment. New image….

Here is my take:

You Rock | by karen h @ carefree creations

This card took me forever! OK, not this card….I had a really ambitious interactive card that I wanted to do, but it required me to be an engineer and I am NOT an engineer. Seriously, it sat on my desk for weeks while I tried this and that. I finally gave up a few days ago and stamped this. I do like it, but I feel like a failure anyway, lol!

My hubby has been learning guitar, so I’ll give this to him. While he isn’t very active while playing, I was going with the “rock” part.

Have a Lovely Day

Have a Lovely Day | by karen h @ carefree creations

When I designed this sketch, I knew I wanted to have the circle be a window/aperature to the card base. My original thought was to use a decorative vellum as the top panel. I actually had everything picked out and was excited, but then I remembered what a pain it is to adhere vellum! I gave up on that and found some pretty pattern paper (which I have a ton of so it is still a win!)

Parenting is Hard!

It is time for another CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – PARENT!

Here is my take:

You can do it! | by karen h @ carefree creations

There are quite a few ways I could have gone with this challenge cue. I ended up doing parent(ing). While this is a card for my daughter – it could easily be for me! I have a daughter with severe anxiety and I really have no idea if I’m helping or hurting the situation. If anyone has experience with anxiety – I’d love to hear from you!! (carefree dot creations at gmail dot com)

I used a lunchbox notes stamp set which has some really encouraging sentiments in it. Knowing I wanted to use a few of them and stack them up, I thought an ombre/gradient color scheme would work best. Each line is a different color. I listed them in order in the supply list below.

To add a focal point to the card, I selected one sentiment to white emboss on a color card stock.

You’re Spec-tacular

And here is my take:

You're Spec-tacular | by karen h @ carefree creations

Super fast card! Seriously, done in under 5 minutes!

I picked two of the glasses images from the set and assigned them a color. I knew I wanted the cats-eyes to be pink and to be stamped more frequently then the other pair. I stamped the top, the bottom, and then then middle with the cats-eye pair, then went back and layered the other pair in between.

While the sentiment strip isn’t quite in the sweet spot, I wanted it to be in between the pairs of glasses. So it looks good to me, even if not perfect.

She Believed She Could….

It is time for another CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – BELIEVE!

Here is my take:

She Believed She Could | by karen h @ carefree creations

I just had to break out this piggy set when I saw the challenge cue! It is so adorable!

I did no-line watercoloring on the image – started with a light grey ink. This is actually my second attempt with this image because the first time I did it I colored the wings first. If you haven’t tried the no-line technique before, the lines that you color near first “gather” the ink you color you use and the lines are a bit darker than the open space around it. Since I started with the wings, the “shared” lines (like the piggy’s back & ear) ended up being the grey color that I used to shade the wings which made the wings look more prominent than the pig did and I did not like it. I stamped the image again and this time started coloring the piggy first (I also did a much lighter shading of the wings).

My original layout for this card was landscaped with the sentiment on banners. It started to be too much for a clean & simple challenge. I set that idea aside and decided to use a go-to layout for CAS cards. I did add an embossed frame to add a touch of interest.

Enjoy the Adventure

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Enjoy the Adventure | by karen h @ carefree creations

Another almost-one-layer card (the boat is popped-up). I used a stencil to blend some blue distress inks. Then I used one of the spaces as my strip to stamp my sentiment.

It took me a few tries before I settled on the color scheme for the boat. For some reason I started with a brown bottom boat and that was ok, but felt off. I tried a grey bottom boat but that wasn’t good either. Finally I used the same blue that I used for the sentiment and that was much better!

Side note: I did some googling to see what order I should put my sentiment (because it is made up of 3 different ones). In my searching I found out that “anchors away” is wrong :( The correct spelling is “anchors aweigh”. I decided that the correct order of the sentiments would probably start with ahoy, but that didn’t line up well and as the “away” was wrong already, I just went with it. I do love this card, so it makes me a bit sad that it isn’t correct.

Start Each Day

It is time for another CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – START!

Here is my take:

Start Each Day | by karen h @ carefree creations

So, I only have a few stamps that have the word “start” in them. While I know I could do other things, this is how I start my brainstorming. When I saw this stamp set, I stopped brainstorming! Love this set! I did pull my colors from sunrise photos.

My layout is a little tight, but I liked the idea of using just a portion of the card.
