Sketch a Party

kth_bday_partybanner

This card was so fun to put together! I used Jen’s sketch (sfytt 3-7-09). I wanted to do something different for the top-most layer and that is how I ended up choosing to use PTI’s It’s a Celebration – that and I really want to try to use my PTI sets more! I tend to get them, make a card or two and forget them (cuz the next month’s release is here!) Actually, I do that with all my new stamps!

I like to use PTI colors when I stamp with PTI images, so I checked my paper stash and realized I hadn’t even opened my Polka Dot Parade pack! I liked the purple/green combo, so I went with that.

I had fun stamping the banner – that is such a fun image to play with! I popped a few layers and added some Glossy Accents (CE-like stuff) to the dots on the present. The final touch was the bow made with the PTI twill.

On the inside, I used the same paper, added a cupcake, and embellished with more CE dots. The dots are very subtle, but I wanted to keep the dot theme going without taking over the inside.

Birthday Garland

kth_bday_flowergarland

This card uses a CPS sketch (#106). Um, we could say that I rotated the sketch, but really, I just wasn’t paying attention and I stamped while the card was upside down *oops* Thankfully it looks good this way too :D

I wanted a cheery card – as this is another birthday card. I enjoyed working with the new Melon Berry ink from Papertrey Ink the other day – it is such a rich color – so I had to pull it out again. This time I added some bright yellow and blue touches.

This card was quick – just simple stamping! I even did the inside. I don’t normally stamp a sentiment on the inside – I prefer handwritten notes; but the sentiment on the front sorta felt incomplete without something on the inside as well.

Leafy Melon Four Square

kth_bday_springy4sq

I think there should be some application out there that creates post titles for us :)

This card is for two challenges. The layout came from CPS (#105) and the colors came from the PTI forum (#45). Those two elements took a lot of guesswork out of putting this together! I was excited to get my Melon Berry because I immediately thought it would look good with Stampin’Up’s Blush Blossom – and it does!! I used SU’s Certainly Celery to finish the four-square. It isn’t as good a match as the pinks, but it is good enough (and it certainly looks better IRL…since I moved I’ve been struggling with finding the perfect photo studio setup).

The button is from PTI’s vintage collection and I love that little bag! I’m just glad that color was in stock when I ordered. The New Leaf was out, but I have it on my wish list. I liked the holes from the button so I added piercing in the squares (I think I’ve done that so much lately that it came right to mind).

Happy Birthday

Flourished Rose

PageMaps came out with another set of card maps this month! A sketch from pagemaps and a color scheme from SCS Color Challenge and this card was practically done for me ;) I do think I am falling in love with Kiwi – I need to get me some Kiwi pattern paper!

I had a lot of fun putting this card together – more watercoloring and a new tool – who wouldn’t have fun? The flourishes were created using the Making Memories Slice (thank you again Gail!!). I can see this becoming a dangerous tool for me!

The background of the card front was done with the Floral background stamp and craft (pigment) ink. The ink lightens when it is heat set, so you can actually see the pink color. I really like how that part turned out.

The inside of the card was easy – no stamping; just another strip of pattern paper and a pink flourish.

Fabulous Mojo

kth_fabulous_mojoflowers

This card took me forever to complete, but I am so happy with it! I started with the recent Mojo sketch. I knew I wanted a really pretty card I could send to a friend for her birthday (I know quite a few folk with March birthdays!!). Picking colors took a long time because I don’t have a lot of embellishments the same color as the ink/paper I chose, but I worked it out.

Before I packed up I received some new rubber from Stampin’Up, but I didn’t have a chance to play, so this is my first inking of Echoes of Kindness, and I love these images! I really enjoy watercoloring, so line-art is usually a good choice for me.

I also bought an Ornare template and this is the first use of that as well. The piercing really gives it a nice touch. Once I got everything stamped and pierced, I wasn’t sure where I was going to put the sentiment, but I liked adding another layer to the focal panel. The trick became finding appropriate fasteners. When will SU realize that we *need* brads in InColor colors?? These little rhinestone brads by Making Memories were close enough in color I could get away with it :)

The inside is becoming another little canvas for me…so fun to decorate!

Absolutely Fabulous

Paper: White (PTI), Cameo Coral, Not Quite Navy, Kiwi Kiss, NQN patterns (SU);

Bloomin’ Spirelli

kth_bloomingspirelli

Spellbinders is having a contest (check it out)! Most of the Spellbinder dies I have are nesties, but I wanted to do something different. One die I do have is from the Spirellabilities collection. I really love spirellis – I’m not much of a fiber artist, but these I can do :) I checked out the Spellbinder thread that I have and decided on purple. I don’t have much in the way of purple paper, but the Guidelines stack from PTI was perfect.

I’m still working on purchasing a good collection of “focal” sentiments. I only have one and it didn’t really work here (the font was wrong). So I improvised. I liked the scripty font used in the PTI Spiral Bouquet set. To fill up the other space on the white panel, I stamped a old background I have from ScrapGoods – it is a listing of flowers in latin. I topped off the spirelli flower with a metal flower embellishment from K & Co.

This layout fit perfect with the spirelli flower I created! The layout is a Sketch For You To Try (from i{heart}2stamp). Jen is also giving away blog candy this week – so check it out!.

Birthday Greetings

kth_bday_mailboxes

CPS is doing a PTI challenge with a PTI prize pack. I couldn’t pass that up! I needed a birthday card and the challenge is a sketch, so half the card was already decided for me. I wanted a cheery card but not overly girly. I selected the Mailbox Greetings set from PTI – that seemed to work nicely with the sketch. Since I am mailing the card, I didn’t want it too bulky, so this is just layers and some popped butterflies.

kth_bday_mailboxes_inside

** ETA**

I had to do a little more – the inside was just a bit to plain :) With a little masking, I stamped just the end mailbox and some grass on more white paper. Then I colored and cut. I added an envelope with a letter inside. It isn’t much, but I’m happy with it.

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Birthday

Thankfully Floral

kth_thankfulfloral

This was a quick card I made a couple months ago. The flower center has Fun Flock on it for a touch of texture. The leaf images available in the PTI Flower Frenzy set are striped, so I used striped ribbon too. The blue is Cool Caribbean, a color for which I have a lot of cardstock :) For the outline flower and sentiment I used Taken with Teal – a great complement to the Cool Caribbean color.

Sometimes I like to offset the focal panel so it doesn’t feel so symmetrical and formal.

Thanks A Bunch
Stamps: PTI Flower Frenzy (PTI), Dotted (CHF);
Ink: Cool Caribbean (SU), Taken with Teal (SU), Kiwi Kiss (SU), Close to Cocoa (SU);
Paper: Cool Caribbean (SU), Chocolate Chip (SU), Confetti Cream (SU);

Card Set – Birds

Card SetI have a family friend who loves birds. I wanted to make her a gift set of cards that could be easily sent through the mail without requiring extra postage. I knew I needed to skip the knots/bows and all lumpy embellishments. This was hard for me – but I love how these cards turned out! I popped the focal image up on dimensionals and still managed to work in some ribbon.

kth_cardset_extrasI kept the sentiments somewhat generic so the cards could be used for whatever came up. The pattern paper is actually made with the Stampin’Up! Beautiful Borders – I love that set! I just repeated the border to make the background. I also used that same border on the inside and envelope.

PTI Challenges

This month is Papertrey Ink’s 2nd Anniversary month – and Nicole and crew are having a blow-out to beat all blow-outs. Already Nicole has given away over 20 stamp sets and quite a bit in other PTI product. The first few challenges were easy – just leave a comment on a blog. But the last few have been creative challenges. And I mean that in more ways than one for me!

Color & Sketch cardPlease remember when looking at my projects that ALL my crafting supplies are on a slow boat around the world to Hawaii. I’ve had to beg, borrow, and steal just to make these simple things!

I am hoping that Nicole will accept this one card for both the color and sketch challenges. I had to use paper from my kids craft pad as well as their crayons (shhhh….dont’ tell them!).

Bag ChallengeAs for this bag, I stole the coasters from Chili’s and used them for the accent! Sigh…of course I managed to wait 24 hours too late to post it for the challenge. But I thought you would like to see just how far I’m willing to go to earn me some free Papertrey stuff!
