kth_friends_sharingisgoodI made a card a month ago for a timed challenge….and I did not like it! I don’t do well with timed things – even as a kid I hated tests! Anyways, when I saw today’s Res-Q challenge I knew exactly which card to remake! First, here is a peek at the old card.

kth_friends_shareeverything

Now, on to my remake! I kept the same colors, but toned them down. I changed the size of the layers because the image seemed to get lost on the old card. Instead of completely coloring the image, I spotlighted instead because I wanted the focus to be on the girls whispering to each other. I also kept the sentiment treatment, but added a bit of accent.

The reason I added the accent, because I’m not sure I would have, was to cover up a boo-boo! When I die-cut the tag I guess I had a little too much thickness and all the pressure actually cut through the left edge instead of just making a little opening. I’m running low on white paper, so I wanted to salvage it. The tiny flower covers up the boo-boo and looks pretty too :)

Monkey Lovin

kth_love_monkeyhugs

Tuesday is the Color Challenge on SCS (CC220). I love this combo – it is so cheery to me.

I had this 4 1/4″ square card already cut (in my scraps from long ago). So I decided to use that. I haven’t used the Monkey Business set if forever and it is one of my favorites (so cute and fun). To keep the card on the light and fun side, I only used white as my neutral.

My original plan was to put a Pumpkin scallop mat behind the monkey, but my scallop circle won’t cut any more :( Anyone else having issues? I’ve had the punch for a year or so and it has only been recently that it won’t punch. Anyway, as it turns out, I like the scallop border on this card better!

Inkup Camp Cards

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

I finished my June Camp assignment yesterday. June’s camp will be focusing on stamps that were not recently released. Mom and I have such different tastes in stamps that it is hard to find sets that we both have (so I can do development here in HI and she can host camp in VA). But we did find two sets that met all the criteria – Pick a Petal and Baroque Motifs.

kth_bday_petaldots

First up is my Pick a Petal card. The white grommets are available in the Occasions mini catalog, so we definitely needed to use them in June. And I think this card suits the grommet perfectly. The grommets are a bit of a pain, but worth it! She doesn’t have Stem Sayings, but luckily, since I unmount, it will be easy to mail the set to her. I really love the color combo on this one too!

kth_cherish_flourishedposy

Next up is my Baroque Motifs card. Mom still has lots of Bella Rose DSP, and the damask print from that pack is a great choice to pair with the Baroque Motifs set. This is another color combo I love – Riding Hood Red and Always Artichoke.

A Broken Challenge

kth_brokenheart

My mom issued a challenge to her customers: Create a card to commiserate broken bones, a major operation, stubbed toe, hangnails, or the like. Under the weather cards do not count.

That is a challenge! I don’t have any SU stamps that would really work for that. Thankfully Pick a Petal is on my design todo list for June. Since I had it out, this concept sorta threw itself at me. It is for a broken heart.

kth_brokenheart_inside

I added some uplifting wording on the inside – though many many other options presented themselves too. I hope I never have to send such a card, but I do like how it turned out!

Rockin’ Roses

kth_friends_rockinroses

Ahhhh, I love it when it works right! I just wish I could have gotten a better photo – this is so much prettier IRL.

This card is for two challenges – both are Tuesday challenges over on SplitCoast. The first challenge is a color challenge (CC218); the second challenge is a Clean and Simple challenge (CAS14).

The colors are so summery and there are a ton of great cards in the gallery already. I was actually a little worried about trying to come up with something unique. But when I started thinking about incorporating the CAS challenge too, then the Roses in Winter set called out to me and I thought I would be safe.

I don’t know why but when I think CAS I think white. I know “white” isn’t necessary for a CAS card, but to me they go hand-in-hand.

The CAS hostess is looking for a summer DT. I am going to apply – and this card is definitely going to be in my list. Wish me luck – there are already a bunch of talented folks that have applied!

Floral Bandana

kth_floralbandana

Today is the technique challenge over on SCS (TLC220). The technique is bandana. This is a cool technique – the only thing you need is a white gel pen for adding accents to your black on color stamping. Easy peasy (well, maybe a tiny time consuming, but worth it). The layout is from a PageMaps sketch (here).

Mother’s Day Cards

Monday, May 11th, 2009

I was a little late getting my cards in the mail, but I’m pretty sure they arrived today. So I feel safe in posting the cards.

kth_mothersday2009_flowers

First up is the card I sent to my mom. I recently got some Flower Soft. (Joyclynn sent it to me! Thank you again!) I’ve been wanting to try it, but I think I aimed a little high for my first attempt, lol. I chose a pretty big flower and then stamped it multiple times. The final focal image ended up taking up most of the card. I tried to embellish it, but I only managed a couple little touches. I do like the card, but it isn’t the fabulous card my mom deserves! That’s what I get for letting it sneak up on me.

kth_mothersday2009_beachy

This card is for my mother-in-law. My hubby picked the colors and theme. It is a pretty simple card. I did decide I need to get some CTMH paper – they have a color – Bamboo – that is awesome. I have the ink, but for some reason I didn’t get the paper. I remedied that this weekend :)

kth_congrats_primarylong

This card was created for Kristina’s 50th color challenge (check it out). I love the colors in this inspiration. It took me a bit to figure out what I was going to do. I like how the tags flow over the card base. I played with putting the ribbon and flowers on different colors, but I like how it ended – with the same colors all together.

Congrats!

Doodled Greetings

kth_love_doodledgreetings

This is another card I started for a challenge. This time, a sketch from CPS (CPS110). I knew what I wanted to do with this card from the beginning, I just ended up taking a couple weeks to do some programing before I finished it. I even did the inside on this one ;)

I originally wanted to put some “texting” message in the oval. So I headed over to netlingo to look up some of the latest acronyms. I must say, that I am not looking forward to having my daughter start texting!

kth_love_doodledgreetings_inside

Today’s pondering had me trying to figure out which challenges to follow. There are SO MANY challenges out there – and most of them are very good. I think I haven’t been stamping much lately because I am overwhelmed with trying to do them all. I need to pick a few and just look at the others. How did you decide what challenges to do?

VSN Cards

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

There was a mini VSN this weekend. I wasn’t home for the live postings, but I did managed to make a few cards before the deadline.

kth_urock_guitarqueen

First up is my Guitar Queen. The challenge was to use a Beatles’ song as inspiration. I went with “While my Guitar Gently Weeps”….though really the only thing that translated was guitar! I went with a rocking look and bright colors. The layout is an old mojo sketch. The star was created with chipboard, white paint, pink craft ink, clear EP, and green dye ink – easy peasy! I stored much of my stamping supplies when I moved and I must have been in a very “minimalist” state of mind when I decided what would store and what would ship because I left almost all of my punches at home…boy do I miss my circle punches!! I would have added little circle mats to the brads, but making them now requires hand-cutting and I didn’t have time within the challenge limits.

kth_friends_sharingisgood

Next up is my BlackJack card. This was a fun challenge – the idea was to create a card using the point system given and come up with a 21-point creation. I did it! This was a card that has been in my head since I saw the Fan Club April Inspiration. Again, I didn’t bring my cloud template so I made one. I always seem to think big when I made a cloud template, oh well. My sponge had a darker blue in it and I didn’t get it all out when I applied Bashful to the cardbase. I would also have added blue sky to the focal image panel. Ugh, sometimes time constraints really bug me!

kth_howdy_plaidstrips

Finally, my last VSN card uses strips of paper. I spent a lot of time with making the background, so the rest of the card is plain. I love the “plaid” background and had fun creating it! I only have one country-feel set – but it is a classic. I love my “On the Farm” set and will never get rid of it!

Thanks VSN Hostesses for some awesome challenges!
