Tropical Partings

A woman in my hubby’s office is moving away. The office had a party the other day, but no card…so I made one. 🙂 I don’t have StampinUp’s Tropical Party set yet, but my mom was very kind to stamp and mail me some images. She even sent me a strip of the umbrella pattern paper so I could cut out colored umbrellas for the drinks!

The Hawaiian’s have a great saying: a hui ho – which (roughly) means ‘until we meet again’; it isn’t goodbye. That is definitely the right feel for the purpose of this card.

The card came together pretty quickly. One detail I want to highlight is the flock that I added to the coconuts. I love this extra tactile detail.

Since this is a card for the office folk to sign, I added an extra piece of cardstock inside so there are 3 writing surfaces. I added a stamped jungle leaf (CTMH) to those pages to help carry the theme.

A Hui Ho

  1. Okay, you know I absolutely love this card! The festive/tropical colors & theme, saying (perfect), the textured background and the flocked coconuts! I think you could mass produce this one and sell it. We always have people leaving in our office, too. Will you folks be leaving soon? Oh and was the flocking difficult or messy? I always wondered if I should try it. Sorry for all of the questions. I know it says “Submit Comment” not “Submit questions”…LOL.

  2. This is a really cute card. I think the fresh alphabet stamps are just what I wanted. Thanks for the reply on PTI forum. I also love the flocking on the coconuts. Such a cute detail.

  3. Okay, the flocked coconuts are to die for, Karen! GREAT touch! Thanks for the “Hawaiian lesson” too–I love to know the story behind the cards!

  4. This is a fabulous card. I love the colors and the design. The sentiment is just perfect; thanks for explaining it. And the cocounts—just perfect!

  5. What a fabulous tropical card! You did such a great job adding all of the elements into your layout without it getting crazy. How sweet of your mom to send the images & paper over for you to use. And I LOVE the flock on the coconuts!
