CC&S #369 – Best Wishes

You still have a day or so to join the current CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Best Wishes | by karen h @ carefree creations

Better late than never?

Honestly, this is such a lovely color combo (and the hostess, Wei, made such a beautiful card) that I was inspired to make a card, even if late.

Any time I see a terracotta color, I always think of potted plants.

I tried something a little different for me. I used this sweet frame, that also cuts a stitched rectangle, to emboss on the card base as well as making a (3-layer) frame.

I stamped the images using some rock-n-roll (all the same color, but just multiple layers to add depth/shadows). even the sentiment has a gradient going on.

The rhinestone was colored with an alcohol marker.

CC&S #368 – Super Simple

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Birthday Card in Minutes | by karen h @ carefree creations

When I saw this sketch I knew this would be a perfect time to break out an old scrap kit and make a card in minutes. Kits are great when you have no mojo – the colors are already combined and there are pieces that make putting a card together a snap.

Seriously – just minutes: all I did was trim some paper, place a border sticker, and stamp a sentiment on a pre-made tag.

CC&S #367 – Just Keep Pedaling

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Keep Pedaling | by karen h @ carefree creations

Some color schemes just shout out what to do with them…this one did not. I had about 5 different sets picked out to try, but this bicycle set won. This card may have a bit more going on than normal for my cards, but it is clean and it is simple 🙂

Here is a behind-the-scenes shot:

I used scrap pieces for the grass – so I didn’t have a piece that went all the way across. Instead, I made sure the seem ended up behind a wheel.

Also, the flowers are stamped on the card base, so I made a mark showing where the basket would be and stamped around the mark.

CC&S #366 – Found You

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Happy I Found You | by karen h @ carefree creations

My focal panel is a little bit smaller than the sketch, but since it was stamped with a busy pattern, I didn’t want it to be overpowering.

This was super easy to make – just did all my stamping on colored cardstock and die cut the pieces.

Think Spring | by karen h @ carefree creations

These colors are so soft and sweet. I don’t have a need for Easter cards, so I went with a spring motif.

You Are So Kind | by karen h @ carefree creations

I love these images – great energy to all the overlapping lines. And all the lines give the image extra real-estate so that the color comes through better than just a plain outline.

It’s a little hard to tell, but the “burst” inside the flower is the paler peach color.

So Grateful for You | by karen h @ carefree creations

I really wanted to use this cool mushroom image. Even though the sketch shows a layer, I made sure to tuck my image way down at the bottom like the sketch shows. And I added some inking at the bottom to “nod” to that layer in the sketch.

Fantastic Job | by karen h @ carefree creations

I decided to do a graphic design for these colors. Since the pink is pretty intense and it would take focus, I used it as the sentiment color. The other two colors supported the design with fun shapes.

CC&S #361 – Go Nuts

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Go Nuts | by karen h @ carefree creations

When I saw this sketch I realized that it would be a good one to use those smaller images that might get lost on a card by themselves. When I was stamping, the Friendly Forest set was catching my eye.

The squirrel has some open areas – I filled those in with colored pencil.

This is one of those cards that makes my multi-brand-buying heart very happy! Three images all from different companies!

My kid commented that it uses a lot of different browns, but I think it works. I did feel the acorn top was a bit too pale, so I added colored pencil accents.

Lucky Pig | by karen h @ carefree creations

Welp, you must know by now that these pale pink shades from Stampin’Up require my use of This Little Piggy, so this card really shouldn’t be a surprise 🙂

This is the first time I’ve just stamped onto colored cardstock (usually I watercolor).

The frame is made by cutting a pair of rectangle dies.
