CASology – Magical

It is time for a new CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – Magical!

Here is my take:

Shine | by karen h @ carefree creations

I used a stencil and blending sponges to make a vignette – this helps set a scene but also keep it contained.

The images are quite small so I just straight colored (no attempt at shading). I did the hair two-toned (like the tail) and added glitter to the lighter shades (forgot to do that on the tail – but I did add glitter to the belly scales).

The background is spritzed with a glitter spray and I added a few crystal effects bubbles.

I hope you join us at CASology – and, for more inspiration, check out the other design team members:

CC&S #368 – Super Simple

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Birthday Card in Minutes | by karen h @ carefree creations

When I saw this sketch I knew this would be a perfect time to break out an old scrap kit and make a card in minutes. Kits are great when you have no mojo – the colors are already combined and there are pieces that make putting a card together a snap.

Seriously – just minutes: all I did was trim some paper, place a border sticker, and stamp a sentiment on a pre-made tag.

I hope you join us at CAS Colours & Sketches!

Thanks for stopping by!

A Little About the Challenge: This weekly challenge is posted on Tuesday, and alternates between color and sketch (if there is a 5th week in the month you get the double dose of color & sketch).

Happy Birthday
Stamps: Tin of Cards (Stampin’Up – SU);
Ink: Espresso (Memento);
Paper: Party Pieces Scrap kit (SU);

CASology – [Zodiac] Birthday

There is still time to play along with the CASology challenge – Zodiac!

I thought I’d post some more inspiration for you:

Birthday Leo | by karen h @ carefree creations

When this cue was put forward as a challenge, my first thought was doing something with a lion (cuz I’m a leo). I didn’t have anything! So, I ordered 🙂 I went ahead with my other plan for my official DT post.

To make this card, the die I chose actually cuts lots of shapes – the mane obviously, but also the eyes, nose, ears, and even the legs. I cut the image twice – once from Saffron and once from Dijon. Then I used a marker to color the eyes & nose instead of cutting again from black.

I stamped the Leo constellation in the background and used partial inking to get the word “Leo” only.

You have another week to get your card made – hope you join us!

CC&S #367 – Just Keep Pedaling

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Keep Pedaling | by karen h @ carefree creations

Some color schemes just shout out what to do with them…this one did not. I had about 5 different sets picked out to try, but this bicycle set won. This card may have a bit more going on than normal for my cards, but it is clean and it is simple 🙂

Here is a behind-the-scenes shot:

I used scrap pieces for the grass – so I didn’t have a piece that went all the way across. Instead, I made sure the seem ended up behind a wheel.

Also, the flowers are stamped on the card base, so I made a mark showing where the basket would be and stamped around the mark.

I hope you join us at CAS Colours & Sketches!

CASology – Zodiac

It is time for a new CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – Zodiac!

Here is my take:

Follow Your Own Star | by karen h @ carefree creations

I love astrology – for the fun of it…I know it shouldn’t rule decision making. So that is the message of my card….have fun, but follow your own star – do your own thing.

To make this card, I embossed the zodiac circle with a glitter embossing powder. The swoosh was hand-drawn and cut out. The star is cut from shiny gold paper…hard to get that to show.

I did take a photo of the glitter embossing:

Check back next week when I’ll have more inspiration from this challenge (hint: I’m a Leo ;)!

CC&S #366 – Found You

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Happy I Found You | by karen h @ carefree creations

My focal panel is a little bit smaller than the sketch, but since it was stamped with a busy pattern, I didn’t want it to be overpowering.

This was super easy to make – just did all my stamping on colored cardstock and die cut the pieces.

I hope you join us at CAS Colours & Sketches!

CASology – Go Fly a [Kite]

There is still time to play along with the CASology challenge – Kite!

I thought I’d post some more inspiration for you:

Sky is the Limit | by karen h @ carefree creations

I used a previous CC&S sketch because it just fit so well with the Kite theme – I really liked the feel of the kite going off the page.

I did some paper piecing for the kite using the wonderfully cheery Rainbow Sherbet paper pack.

You have another week to get your card made – hope you join us!

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Think Spring | by karen h @ carefree creations

These colors are so soft and sweet. I don’t have a need for Easter cards, so I went with a spring motif.
