Thanksgiving Pumpkins

by karen @ carefree creations - Thanksgiving Pumpkins

Another Thanksgiving card. This one I used both the Retro Sketches and ColourQ challenges.

I wanted a “lighter” feel to this card, so I made my card base blue and kept the chocolate to just touches (OK, so the ribbon is sort of a big touch).

When I bought the Parisian Lace doily die, I also bought the punch tool. I’m not sure I knew how to use it before because I thought it was a big waste of money. Well, I was working on auto-pilot and just made it work and oh my does it work. So much easier than pushing each individual opening with a piercer. I may have to invest in the other doily punch tools!

Thanks for taking a peek!

Happy Thanksgiving

Fabulous Birthday

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge: #50 – colors.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #50

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Fabulous Birthday

This card is a mesh of a few items on my pinterest board (link on right).

I die-cut the circle from the blue panel and stamped the sentiment through the hole directly onto the card base. I stamped the blue panel with a pattern and popped it onto the card base.

The flowers are generational inkings from Soft Suede.

When I was done I thought the card needed another touch – so I added the brown strips to the edges.

The card itself is a little smaller than an A2: 5 1/4 x 4.

Autumn Candles

by karen @ carefree creations - Autumn Candles

This card is for the Seize the Sketch challenge.

When choosing colors, I wanted to stay away from pink (mostly because I’m tired of it), but also because this is autumn and I love using the rich earth tones.

Sweet Candy Wishes

by karen @ carefree creations - Sweet Candy Wishes

I created this card for the CAS on Sunday sketch challenge.

The candy was inspired by Betsy Veldman’s card (the last on the page) – I loved the way she added the popper ends to the large round candy from another set!

I started my card thinking it would be a Christmas card, but since my theme was “sweet” I went with pink and lime instead of red and green. After I settled on my sentiment I realized the card really could be for any purpose!

Bokeh Smiles

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge: #47 – colors.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #47

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Bokeh Smiles

These colors are Valentine to me, but I haven’t even made Halloween cards, let alone Christmas – or Valentine’s Day!

I’m always in need of birthday cards, so I wanted a design that would work with these colors but be birthday.

I’ve been wanting to try the Bokeh technique for a while and decided this was the perfect opportunity. There are only the two pinks – but lots of generational stamping, getting lighter as you move out.

Party Poppers

by karen @ carefree creations - Party Poppers

CAS(e) This Sketch is another challenge I enjoy playing so I pulled up the current sketch to make another needed birthday card.

I seem to use this color scheme a lot for birthdays.

I trimmed the card to be 4 x 5.5 inches.

Since this is a fairly simple card, I added some Spica glitter pen accents to the poppers and confetti. You can’t see it in the photo, but in person it does add a nice touch.

Halloween Wishes

by karen @ carefree creations - Halloween Web

Today is World Cardmaking Day. I’m ignoring the fact that I’m sick and I’m playing along anyway. (Thankfully I do feel a bit better than yesterday.)

I pulled up all my favorite challenges (why are there too many to actually play all of them???) and I found this cool sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.

I don’t do circles easily, but this sketch seemed doable as the circle was a background element.

I browsed my supply index looking for something that would spark an idea. The first thing that brought forth an idea was a stamp set with a filigree circle and Halloween theme. Once I got to the Halloween theme my brain started churning and I thought about the web dies I recently purchases. Thus my card was born 🙂

I embossed the spider with black embossing powder – because I wanted it to be shiny…because I knew I wanted to use either bling or sequins to accent the sentiment. And here I am breaking one of my rules for masculine cards: no bling. But every rule has an exception (hmmmm…does that rule have one too??), so I didn’t mind adding the bling.

I haven’t created enough Halloween cards to send to all my family (which is sad since that only numbers 10), but I have a couple folks I *must* send to. So I’m glad I’ve got one done with time to mail!

Thanksgiving Leaves

by karen @ carefree creations - Thanksgiving Leaves

I had fun making this card! I used CAS-ual Friday’s challenge: Autumn Colors & A Leaf.

After doing all the stamping, I wanted to add one more touch. I’m not a big fan of buttons because 99% of my cards get mailed and buttons are hard to mail. I tried some burlap, but I spied my bag of raffia and thought that would be a perfect fall accent!

I have a ton of raffia, so I’m hoping I start (bring back) a new trend and I’ll be able to use up my stash 😉

I love adding blue into an autumn color scheme.

Autumn Tea

by karen @ carefree creations - Autumn Tea

I created this card for the current CASology challenge – autumn.

I’m a tea drinker all year long, iced-tea. But when the weather gets colder, I break out the hot tea. There’s nothing like wrapping your cold fingers around a hot mug!

Since the challenge theme is autumn, I made sure to use those type colors.

The steam is stamped with Versamark.

I used an old CASe this Sketch (#31) layout.

Birthday Celebration

by Karen @ carefree creations - Birthday Celebration

I created this card for the current Seize This Sketch challenge.

I didn’t follow the sketch exactly – basically I just brought the bottom scallop layer up to the front.

My card is just a bit smaller than an A2 – 4 x 5 1/4 – because I wanted the streamer dies to go from edge to edge (as it turns out they actually hang over a smidge).

I normally don’t buy the larger ink pads (a storage issue more than any reason). But I do happen to have the large Summer Sunrise pad. I’m happy I do as the pointy end was perfect for adding the deeper tones to the candle flame.

I’m actually quite pleased with how this turned out!
