It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:
And here is my take:
Stay tuned for the details of some giveaways later in this post!
A little about my card first. I always have a hard time with primary colors. And I wanted to make a birthday card (since this is the CC&S 5th birthday), so I was limiting myself even more. I went surfing through my inspiration file and found an amazing card by Hannelie.
While that card *is* amazing, I didn’t want to copy it, so I did some google searching of Piet Mondrian. After a while, I came up with the idea of doing a little vignette in his style. I sketched out my pattern on some scrap paper and then used a sharpie and t-ruler to draw it on my card.
Since I knew I wanted a one-layer card, I used some heavy card stock meant to keep markers from bleeding through. That way I knew I could color in the areas using my Copic markers.
The red in this color scheme is darker than what Mondrian typically uses. To achieve it, I laid down a layer of R29 first then a layer of R59 and blended it with another R29 layer. For the blue I used B18 (it is a bit darker IRL); and for the yellow, Y15.
I did consider adding a few more lines and even more color swatches, but, in the end, I liked the minimalist look to this style.
So, how about that giveaway?!?!!
So, as I said – CAS Colours & Sketches challenge blog is celebrating its 5th birthday with challenge #250! To thank our challenge participants for helping us to reach this amazing milestone, five lucky players in this week’s challenge will be chosen to win an in-stock clear stamp set of their choice from Uniko! In addition, five of the design team members are giving away prizes – but you’ll need to leave a comment on their blogs to be eligible to win. You won’t want to miss out on this event! Wow – a stunning card and I’ve learned a lot from reading your post.
Wow! This is amazing! I think you’ve captured the style perfectly.
FAB! Absolutely LOVE this, I thought you had used a stamp and was curious to know. Love it even more that you created this design yourself and thus introducing me to such a wonderful artist besides yourself too. Hugs Bev x
I also thought this was a stamp! I love your creativity!
