And here is my take:

Birthday Butterflies | by karen h @ carefree creations

The layers on the 3 larger butterflies are from the layers stamp set, but with selective inking (the layers are for “straight on” butterflies, whereas these smaller images are not “straight on”).

I broke the odds rule (there are 4 flowers) but I really couldn’t figure out where to put a fifth one and I wanted them off the top and bottom, so four it is.

This is a fun image! When I went to color it, I realized that it would be all grey and black (since I saw the tendrils as smoke and not flame). I decided to add the hot colors by using paper strips behind.

To add a little picnic vibe, I added some gingham paper. And to add a bit of interest I cut that paper in something other than straight.

I was very tempted to use these colors to do a flower – I mean, they’re perfect. But I wanted to do something different. Still nature based, but I’ happy with how I used these colors. And it isn’t a white card base.

Here is my take:

This cue was a challenge for me (because my only idea was sparkles on the water – but I’ve already done that card). Then I remembered some cool cards that showed sunlight filtering down in an underwater scene. I tried my best, lol. And just in case the sunrays didn’t do it, I added some glitter pen to the rays and the jellyfish.

To keep the color count down, I made the seaweed & coral white.

The banner die was longer than I needed (and only fish-tailed on one end), but I die cut a kraft strip, stamped my sentiment, then ran the paper & die back through to trim the excess.

I knew when I put these colors together I wanted to do some sort of nautical card. I decided to use two of the colors to create a scene (sun and water) and the third color to stamp everything else like a silhouette.

To make the background, I first squished the sea color onto the watercolor paper, then I dried it – to keep the blending to a minimum. When I did the sun squishing I did use a towel to pull up the green that was created where the colors met.

I had lots of ideas for this sketch, but I was stamping during Pride month and the rainbow scrap from this card was looking at me – so this card came together quickly.

I used nesting circle die to create the frame, but cut it up so none of the black layers overlap.
