Bouquet of Balloons

Jen, the hostess of the CAS challenge on SCS, is looking for the winter design team. I’ve tried out a few times before, but I thought I’d give it another go. The first challenge is to create a card using pattern paper and ribbon.

I know this isn’t all that unique, but it is clean and simple, lol. I don’t use a lot of pattern paper, so this was quite a stretch for me.

This is the first time I’ve used these balloon dies from Taylored Expressions. I must say I am in love! They come with these clear placement pieces that make getting what you want so easy.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Vintage Aviary

I created this card for Chupa’s Saturday Sketch Challenge. This week’s sketch (ssc38) was a simple one (I love her challenges because they stretch my typical CAS style, but a simple one now and again is a good thing, lol!).

I finally got to use my text flower accent that has been on my desk for months – I created it for the first CAS-ual Friday challenge, but never got a card done for it. This still feels out of my comfort zone, but I do like the final card.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Other: Black lace (?), Edger die (PTI); First Edition & Newspaper DSPs (SU); special brad (?); flower dies (PTI);

New Challenge

I found a new challenge site: For Your Inspiration. It is a photo inspiration challenge. This week’s challenge is a beautiful sunrise/set photo (fyi18).

I paired that inspiration with the sketch challenge from Waltzing Mouse (wmsc74).

From the FYI challenge, I was inspired by the sunrays. I would have used a red hue in the card, but that just felt a bit to empire-rising-ish.

Bright Cupcake

I created this card for the CAS challenge at SCS (cas144). The challenge was a theme challenge – “party”. I always need birthday cards, so I jumped on this challenge!

The cupcake is paper pieced. The candle is from the sentiment set, but seemed well proportioned for this. The layout came after much contemplation. I hardly ever use twine and this seemed like a perfect time.

Nordic Waltz

This month’s WaltzingMouse blog waltz theme is Winter/Christmas. WMS recently designed a set called Nordic Winter. I love this set – it reminds me of all those cool sweaters 🙂

To get started with my card I spent {we won’t say how long} surfing the web looking at Nordic sweaters getting ideas. I eventually sketched my own pattern based on all that I saw.

Thanks for stopping by! And don’t forget to check out the others: Waltz Thread.

Merry Christmas

Bouquet for the Birthday Girl

As soon as I saw Arielle’s Halloween Bouquet digi image, I knew I had to have it. See, my SIL *loves* Halloween and she has a wicked sense of humor. This birthday card is perfect for her!

I did have a lot of fun making the card, but really it is all about the flowers! I colored them with Copics. I cut a window in the top layer and popped it up over the flowers. The ribbon is just wrapped around and the bow was done separately and glue-dotted on.

Thanksgiving Blessings

This is another card I created for mom’s stitching newsletter. This time I used Faux Stitching (and I still couldn’t get it straight, lol).

I stamped the leafy floret (I had to mask & stamp the stem again at the bottom to make it go all the way down). I stamped and cut-out the flower – adhering it with dimensionals.

For the sentiment panel, first I trimmed the ends, then I stamped the words. Next, I adhered the strip to the Saffron panel. After all that I did the the faux stitching.

Wheely Grateful

This card is for mom’s November camp. I’m really happy with how this card turned out!

I inked the wheel with Pool Party, then went back over the sentiment I wanted using the Espresso marker. Now, my wheel in unmounted, so I ended up having to stamp this in stages, but for camp, they’ll just roll it out making sure the sentiment is about 1″ up from the bottom.

Then I cleaned the wheel and, using the Mustard marker, inked up the leaf I wanted. Stamped on scrap and cut it out.

Just finish it up with a strip of pattern paper and some twine.

Easy peasy 🙂

Playing with Fabric

Back in September I put together a few cards for my mom’s newsletter on stitching. On this card I decided to use the StampinUp fabric as well as stitching.

I die cut about four butterflies and machine stitched them to the Crumb Cake layer. My little machine doesn’t like tight curves, so I did part of it manually moving the needle up and down. Not fun!

To do the ruffled border, I ran a long straight stitch down the center of the fabric. Then I pulled one of the threads and gathered the fabric as I went.

Autumn Birthday

A birthday card for sending out as a RAK. This started as a color challenge card, but I deviated and decided I liked it better.

This isn’t meant as a masculine card, but once I was done I realized that, despite my normal avoidance of ribbon on masculine cards, this one works quite well.
