Thankful Wreath

Thanksgiving Wreath - by karen @ carefree creations

Another Thanksgiving card. This one is very simple – practically a one-layer card (depending on your definition).

I started by stamping the banner onto the card base. Using that as a guide, I stamped the leaves and flowers. The actual banner is stamped on white, fussy-cut, and popped-up on the card base.

I chose to go with Sarah Sand as the card base because I wanted the white banner to pop, but still have the colors of the leaves to show true.

Autumn cards that have a touch of blue have been catching my eye for awhile now and I just had to try it for myself.

Thankful for you

Bohemian Thanks

Southwest Thanks - by karen @ carefree creations

I needed a thank you card to give to my mom. Since she’s a StampinUp demo, I used all SU supplies.

A very simple, and one-layer, card.

Noel Wreath

It has been so long since I stamped! I got lots of time this week – and I’ll share the results of my efforts over the next week.

This card was created for my mom’s December stamp camp.

Noel Wreath - created by karen @ carefree creations

My requirements were to use Wondrous Wreath. Mom had already used this set a month or so ago, so I wanted to make a card that didn’t look like that one.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Good Thoughts

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge: #92 – colours.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #92

And here is my take:

Good Thoughts - by karen @ carefree creations

I always see bees when yellow and black are together, but I really didn’t want that this time. So I thought, “OK, if black is just a sentiment color that leaves yellow – lots of it….what can I use.” And of course sunshine came to mind.

I got to use some new to me stamps and dies and it was fun to put this together!

I really had no idea that the sun image from Kinda Eclectic was so huge – but I love that it is!

Silver & Poppies

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge: #87 – sketch.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #87

And here is my take:

Plum Poppies - by karen @ carefree creations

This is such a classic sketch, I decided to make my card fairly classic too.

I started by wrapping my card base with silver satin ribbon – it is secured with regular tape under the poppy panel. The poppy panel is outlined with a silver pen and the sentiment is silver embossed.

I watercolored the poppies; they are a bit darker in person.

Pet Loss

Pet Sympathy - by karen @ carefree creations

A week or so ago my mom had to put one of her cats to sleep. I couldn’t be there to hug her myself, so I sent her a card.

Wintery Hello

by karen @ carefree creations - Winter Hello

This card was created for a few different challenges. First, I was really inspired by a sketch on the Creating with Connie & Mary challenge blog. I can see me using this sketch a lot!

Next, I used the Less is More – Winter Blues color challenge. Which went nicely with the last challenge I used: CAS on SplitCoastStampers which was about snowflakes.

This card only took about 15 minutes from start to finish (idea to completion). Which, for me is awesome, but the fact that it happened at 10 o’clock at night is astounding (for me). I’m best for right-brain things early in the day. I’ve reconfigured my schedule to better focus on my priorities (which while I love crafting, it has to come after more important things). So my crafty time is now after dinner (or any time on the weekend – I had to give myself some concession!!) I’m not sure what that means for my blog posting, but since I’ve never really been consistent… 🙂

Thanksgiving Fall Leaves

by karen @ carefree creations - Thanksgiving Leaves

I created this card for a couple challenges: the Freshly Made Sketch and CASology’s cue: Brown.

I’m desperately behind in making cards for Thanksgiving (this will be card #3 of 10). Thankfully this one was a quick card to make (ya know, starting with a sketch and color really helps speed things along!).

The leaves are two-toned (inking in one color and then rock-n-rolled with a second).

5th Thursday

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. There is an extra Thursday in the month of October – and that means today’s challenge is a double: #49 – sketch & colors.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #49

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Thank You Flowers

I’ll admit, this sketch threw me – just so many options to fill in the focal panel. I really wanted to do something a little unexpected.

For the focal panel, I chose a large bold sentiment (so large it falls over the card base edge both top and bottom!); and stamped the flowers where the smaller rectangle would be. I love that this is is just one additional layer (do you count mats when counting layers?).

Speaking of layers – mine might be a bit wonky….my trimmer finally gave up a couple days ago. And I don’t have a backup! Good thing I have a t-ruler 🙂 Hopefully by next week I’ll have not only a working trimmer, but a backup too!

Country Tea

by karen @ carefree creations - Country Tea

This card is for a couple challenges.

First, the layout is from the Dahlhouse Wanna Sketch challenge #10.

The theme is from the CASology – Country challenge.

There are so many ways you can go “country”. Since I haven’t done an SU only card in awhile, I limited myself to StampinUp sets. Immediately I thought of the Gingham wheel and the wonderful circle frame in Kind & Cozy.

I stamped the frame on cardstock and cut it out by hand on the outside and with a circle die on the inside. I die-cut another, slightly larger than the center, circle to act as the frame base/background. The cup and steam are fussy cut by hand.
