VSN – Part 1

The first night of VSN is over – though there is still time to play (you have until Sunday, August 24 10pm CT to upload your images to SCS). Here is a group shot of the cards I made for Friday’s challenges:

I always try to make cards that I know I can use when I’m done with the fun of the challenge. There are two challenges that got me to do something new – scratch-n-sniff and flocking. I had always wanted to try scratch-n-sniff but just never took the time. When I first read this challenge I wanted to do something different…eventually the idea of baby powder came to mind. While I had a few hurdles with that one, I do like how it turned out. The other challenge, flocking, had me digging into my stash for long-ago purchased items that I just never took the time to try. This was SO EASY – a little inking in my glue pad and a little shake of flock and voila. I will definitely be doing that one again soon!

Notes about the other cards:

The Gnome Bookmark card is 8 1/2 x 5 1/2, fold in half. From the front, trim 1 1/2″; from the back, perforate at 1 1/2″.

The Sketch Book has about 6 pages from my sketch book in it. I used Japanese Stab Binding (SCS TLC142) and twine to do the binding along the spine. The flower is stamped directly on the Kraft paper then colored with pencils.

Thanks to all the hostesses for such great challenges!

Life’s Little Challenges

Wow – these past couple of hours have been quite, um, interesting. Tonight is the beginning of the VSN challenge weekend over at SCS. Being the procrastinator that I am, I am frantically trying to finish the last couple of challenges. One of which I chose to use baby powder. Not having used it on my children, I was apparently unaware of how the bottle works. So, instead of simply peeling the sticker from the holey lid, I pried the lid off…and well…I’m sure science was involved in this:

And if that wasn’t bad enough, SCS is down. VSN was supposed to start at 7pm ET…that was about the same time SCS went down. It is now 8:15 pm 🙁 I know the powers-that-be are trying as hard as they can to get it working, but I feel for the coordinators of VSN. (((hugs))) to Vicki and PS.

PTI Blog Hop – Vellum

The challenge for the July PTI Blog Hop was to use vellum. I chose to punch shapes from vellum to create my card. I’m always in need of birthday cards, so I started with that idea in mind.

I wanted to use PTI stamps for this challenge, so the Honey Bee stamp set seemed a good choice for a birthday card. The frame and bee are both popped on dimensionals. I added gems to the center of the punched vellum flowers.

Supplies:
stamps: Honey Bees, Borders and Corners Square, Boxes Bags & Tags, Mixed Messages – all PTI;
paper: Plum Pudding, Lemon Tart – PTI; black, white;
ink: Noir, Palette; Lemon Tart, Lavender Moon – PTI;
other: Lavender Moon ribbon – PTI; gems; vellum; various punches;

Alphabet Comparison

I’ve owned CTMH’s Sans Alphabet for a year or two now. I love that small little alpha. When PTI came out with their own Simple Alphabet, I wondered if I needed both. I was told that the PTI font was smaller. So I splurged and bought it 🙂

There are differences between the two sets that I thought I would enumerate for anyone else wondering.

1. The size – PTI Simple Alpha is smaller. I’ve attached an image below to compare. The CTMH Sans Alpha is on top, the PTI is below. I like the size of the CTMH but many times I have wanted to squeeze something on a small tag and haven’t been able to fit it all, so the PTI set has come in handy more than once already!

2. The actual blobs that the CTMH image sits on are form-fitting to the image, so you can get your letters closer. PTI are all uniformly shaped squares, so you get a mono-spaced affect. However, I have trimmed many of my PTI letters close and have not had any problems.

3. You get 2 of each letter with the CTMH set; upper case is sold separately from lower case as well as numbers. PTI gives you 1 of each letter – lower and upper – and number; however, you also receive extra letters – some as many as 3 extras.

Welcome!

I’ve decided to start a blog! I really didn’t think I ever would, but there are things I want to accomplish, and it seems like a blog is a good way to get started. So here is my first post, short and to the point – pretty much just like me 😉

I chose the name for this blog to help me remember the fun side of creating. I plan to get back into scrapbooking, and this reminder will be needed as I always get bogged down in the little details that my girls really don’t care about. Also, I hope to begin submitting my work to magazines and design teams – the reminder will be helpful in keeping my focus.

Thank you for visiting!
