You Are Fierce

Today I have a card for the CASology – Encourage challenge.

You are Fierce | by karen @ carefree creations

I just got this adorable little set and with the sentiments included it was a perfect choice for an encouragement challenge!

To start, I used an airbrush system to create the scene’s background. I stamped the palm tree directly onto the background and colored it in. Since the leaves are green and blue is part of green, coloring over the background was easy peasy.

I did selectively ink the sentiment (which is fully “you are fiercely awesome”).

Thanks for taking a peek!

You Are Fierce

Cat Napping

My last November 2015 SCS DD card (I’ll give you week to catch your breath before I start posting December, lol). Each month has a theme; if you are a member of the Fan Club, you can view more details about this card and its relation to the theme here.

I love the sleeping kitty image! I did a bit of sentiment collage along the edge. I started by placing my main sentiment in a bolder color where I wanted it positioned. Then I filled in the border with the other sentiments/images using pale colors.

I’m almost done posting the November 2015 SCS DD cards! Each month has a theme. If you are a member of the Fan Club, you can view more details about this card and its relation to the theme here.

With a Good Book | by karen @carefree creations

My favorite “hobby” is to curl up on the couch with a blank, a book, my cat, and hot beverage. This card is a little tribute to that.

I wish you could touch this card – the fibers are so soft!

Love the word play between the sentiment “thanks a bunch” and the grouping of acorns. Of course, it could just be clever only to me 🙂

The leaves are inked using the rock-n-roll technique.

Silent Night

Happy New Year!

While I am not one for snow, I really hope we get some soon! Maybe this will help:

A white-on-white scene. Lots of texture on this one – satin ribbon, embossing, glossy paper, glittery snowflake.

Winter Sky

A card from my November 2015 SCS DD time. Each month has a theme; if you are a member of the Fan Club, you can view more details about this card and its relation to the theme here.

Winter Sky | by karen @ carefree creations

For this card, I remember being inspired by the winter sky – I wanted to capture the bleak colors.

I used masking paper to create a vertical opening on my card base. I sponged the distress inks into that space, keeping it a light touch. After removing the masking, I added the stamped images. The card is a true one-layer card.

This was one of my favorites from the month.

I miss you

Get Well Bear

Here is another card from my November 2015 Splitcoast time. Each Dirty Dozen month has a theme. If you are a member of the Fan Club, you can view more details about this card and its relation to the challenge here.

Get Well Bear | by karen @ carefree creations

Here are the notes I kept from when I first posted the card on Splitcoast:

My original idea was to have the bear in a tent, but that wasn’t working, so I thought I’d do an approximation of a tent, but what I ended up with made me think sleeping bag. I added a bit of pattern paper to help it look even more like a sleeping bag.

I like to make useful cards when I stamp, so I had to think about what kind of sentiment would go with a sleeping bear. I came up with lots of ideas (sweet dreams, cozy thoughts, etc.) but those aren’t cards I would give to anyone, but I thought sleeping is usually essential for getting better when sick.

Get Well
Stamps: Happy Camper, Sentiment Sampler (Paper Smooches);
Ink: Cocoa (Momento);
Paper: White (PTI); Midnight Muse (SU); Manchester pattern paper (SU);
Other: markers (Copic); Woodgrain impression plate (PTI);

Seasonal Wreath

As usual, I’m a bit behind – this time in regards to posting my Splitcoast Dirty Dozen cards. Over the next week, I’ll be posting my November cards (I created these back in 2015).

Seasonal Wreath | by karen @ carefree creations

I love this bare branch wreath image. This card was made to look sorta like a door with the wreath hanging on it. The image does not have a coordinating die, so I fussy cut it and used a small circle die on the inside (which I had a slightly larger one, but it worked).

The “season’s” bit of the sentiment is die cut from adhesive gold foil paper – making placement a breeze!

Each DD month has a theme. If you are a member of the Fan Club, you can view more details about this card and its relation to the challenge here.

Jingle Bells

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

I decided to use Sketch #210

And here is my take:

Jingle Bells | by karen @ carefree creations

It’s funny…every week I thought about how to use the colors or sketch as a holiday card (because I knew these challenges were coming). Of course, now when I need them, I don’t remember. Thankfully, I was able to come up with quite a few ideas. This sketch is so versatile. I thought these jingle bell dies worked perfectly.

The bells are cut from shiny silver paper and then backed with dark grey (so the bell openings don’t show the background). I chose colors that I thought would work well with silver.

I hope you join us at CAS Colours & Sketches!

Thanks for stopping by!

A Little About the Challenge: This weekly challenge is posted on Tuesday, and alternates between color and sketch (if there is a 5th week in the month you get the double dose of color & sketch).

Jingle Bells
Stamps: Pinebough wheel (Stampin’Up – SU); Ombre Sentiments (Papertrey Ink – PTI);
Ink: Forest Foliage (SU);
Paper: Silver Foil (SU); Slate Gray (Simon Says Stamp); Sno Cone (My Favorite Things); White (PTI);
Other: Jingle Bells die (Lil Inkers);

Love and Joy

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

I went all the way back to the first color challenge of the year – #204:

And here is my take:

Love & Joy | by karen @ carefree creations

I love the Holiday Trimmings set from Wplus9 – it is a great style that can go retro or new/modern! I loved Kara’s card with the soft colors. When I was looking for a color scheme for this challenge, the first one made me remember Kara’s card and I knew I just had to use it!

The strings are hand-drawn and I was a little crooked, but it works.

I hope you join us at CAS Colours & Sketches!
