You're Kick Ass | by karen h @ carefree creations

I went with ice skating as my sport. To keep this card from being to specific, I used a fun encouraging sentiment.

Stay Cocky

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Stay Cocky | by karen h @ carefree creations

These warm colors had me thinking summer, but as I was looking through my stamp index and saw the rooster, I knew it would be perfect!

So I wasn’t sure whether I should stamp or die cut first. I chose to stamp. Bad choice. Next time I think I’ll stamp the chicken body, die cut it, then add the legs.

I hope you join us at CAS Colours & Sketches!

Thanks for stopping by!

A Little About the Challenge: This weekly challenge is posted on Tuesday, and alternates between color and sketch (if there is a 5th week in the month you get the double dose of color & sketch).

Dance is a Sport

It is time for a new CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – SPORTS!

Here is my take:

Dance | by karen h @ carefree creations

My kid took ballet for years. Dance is most definitely a sport! Also – So You Think You Can Dance is currently on television – one of our favorite shows!!

I was very inspired by Janet’s card a few months ago. I loved the elegant color scheme with the gold looking like it was painted on.

To make my card, I die cut the ballet dancer from white card stock, then used a dimensional paint to cover the bits I wanted to glue the foil to. [Side note: I meant to use a Heidi Swapp paint, but grabbed the wrong tube – but this paint stuff worked wonderfully.] After it dried, I placed my foil on it and ran it through a laminator.

The sentiment and dancer are both double layered, with the back layer being from black card stock – which helps both stand out from the background.

I still wanted a bit of something to help the dancer stand out, with my kid’s help, I chose a stencil and a light pink ink to add some design.

Sending a Little Sunshine | by karen h @ carefree creations

For this card, I started with the stencil on the background. Then I found a die that would fit the sentiment. To finish it off, I added some tiny rhinestones.

There is still time to play along with the CASology challenge – CLOUD; it is an extended deadline!

I thought I’d post some more inspiration for you:

Dreams Come True | by karen h @ carefree creations

My other card was dark, so I thought I’d go light and fluffy for this one.

I had the HARDEST time coloring this unicorn (I think I need more pale color markers?) – this is my third iteration and I’m still not satisfied, but, ya know, done is done.

I wanted to add a final touch, but couldn’t think of anything to do and have the card stay CAS.

Ain’t No Sunshine

It is time for a new CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – CLOUD!

Here is my take:

Ain't No Sunshine | by karen h @ carefree creations

I knew I wanted to do clouds obscuring a moon.

The moon was die cut from shimmer paper and the clouds are die cut from vellum. Here is a close up of that:

I have a hard time adhering vellum, but for this one, I just smeared white glue anywhere the cloud sat over the moon. Those places fully adhered and didn’t show through.

Ideally, I would have used a halloween sentiment, but I don’t have one the right size for this layout (and I wanted all the elements grouped together).

Today is Your Day!

There is still time to play along with the CASology challenge – ZOOM; it is an extended deadline!

I thought I’d post some more inspiration for you:

Today is Your Day | by karen h @ carefree creations

I decided to pull out a roller coaster set to make this week’s ZOOM card. I wasn’t sure at first how I would keep this clean and simple, but after a day or two of the idea perculatin’ I got this layout.

The coaster base is stamped in a very light grey so that it wouldn’t be overwhelming in the design. I added clouds as a last touch to help balance the coaster cars and the bush.

It is time for another CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – ZOOM! This is a two-week challenge – so you have extra time to play!

Here is my take:

Have Fun | by karen h @ carefree creations

I knew with this cue word I needed to make an interactive card! When I found this little bun on sled, I knew it would be perfect for a slider!

Since I needed a scene to accommodate my slider, I was concerned with all the layers and keeping the card clean & simple too. Making the layers white meant the only color would come from the image – perfect!

A Little Encouragement

It is time for another CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – BEAR!

Here is my take:

Way to Go | by karen h @ carefree creations

My card is a 4Bar size (3 1/2 x 4 7/8) – which complements the image size much better.

I did draw a bow on the bear using a Momento marker.
