CASology – Appreciate

It is time for a new CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – APPRECIATE!

Here is my take:

Appreciation Foliage | by karen h @ carefree creations

A very simple card. I did add a little bow with some floss.

When I was done with this card, another idea spawned – but I don’t have the supplies, so I dearly hope someone makes an office chart type card with the financial definition of appreciate šŸ™‚

CASology – Fog part 2

There is still time to play along with the CASology challenge – FOG; it is an extended deadline!

Fog My Spectacles | by karen h @ carefree creations

While I had out my white ink from last week’s card, I wanted to also do these glasses! I wasn’t sure exactly how I would use the glasses (since the ink is white, I couldn’t just plop these glasses on a white card base), but after a few attempts, I came up with this cluster of hearts – and I love this card!

I adhered a layer of glasses to some window sheet and cut it out (just inside the frame border). Once I got the ink on the window sheet, I added a couple layers behind and one on top – so lots of dimension to these specs!

Here is my take:

Rocky Mountain Hello | by karen h @ carefree creations

When I first saw the clue, my mind immediately went to the mountains. I love seeing the mountains around my town – I get a calm feeling looking at them. I really wanted to capture their layers – and the fog works into that picture perfectly!

I stamped the lightest mountain image, let it dry, then applied white pigment ink. Once that was dry I did it again and again. I am a little disappointed in the white on the darkest purple – I just could not get it to stay white.

I also had another idea for “fog” and that card will go live next week.

CASology – Dragonfly

It is time for a new CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – DRAGON!

Here is my take:

Birthday Flyby | by karen h @ carefree creations

I have a dragonfly stamp, but it isn’t something I like and I wasn’t feeling it. My kiddo was the one that suggested a dragon fly(ing). Definitely loved that idea – it was perfect!

My selection of Copics is a bit limited and I didn’t have a dark enough orange to really make this image pop, but knowing this I chose to do a complementary color scheme so that in itself would add a touch of pop.

LOL | by karen h @ carefree creations

Ya know how much I love this piggy set?!! When I was looking for something to stamp for this cue, I was thinking I’d end up printing off a funny sentiment, but once I saw this set my mind did some juggling of the image and I knew this would be perfect.

I am not afraid to cut up my images – I do it all the time. But for some reason I decided to do selective inking instead (used lots of tape to do it too). Of course, I ended up cutting right around the pig outline so I didn’t really need to go through the trouble, but there’s a peek into my non-planning way of creating šŸ™‚

To help emphasize the piggy laughing, I added a background of “ha” words in different fonts. Here is maybe a better shot of that:

This is definitely one of my favorite cards!

Water You Up To? | by karen h @ carefree creations

Paper Smooches makes such fun images – and I had fun playing with this one!

First I stamped the wave image. Then I masked the top and did some ink smooshing to make the water. I switched the mask to the bottom and stamped the beaver image. Finally, I watercolored the image. Once it was all dry, I did go over the face bits with a marker to darken it up.

At the Lake | by karen h @ carefree creations

When I stamped this card, I had just received the kit in the mail. I never spent much time at a lake as a kid, but I still believe in the magic of lakes (LOTS of books have lakes as the scene of idyllic childhood memories).

I had originally stamped this “scene” on a blue card base, but it was too plain/flat/basic. To add some interest, I die cut the scene with a border. This was much better.

CASology – Grill, Part 2

There is still time to play along with the CASology challenge – GRILL; it is an extended deadline!

I thought I’d post some more inspiration for you:

Smokin' Hot | by karen h @ carefree creations

This is a fun image! When I went to color it, I realized that it would be all grey and black (since I saw the tendrils as smoke and not flame). I decided to add the hot colors by using paper strips behind.

Grilled Birthday | by karen h @ carefree creations

Nothing says summer like grilling (at least in the northern hemisphere)!

To add a little picnic vibe, I added some gingham paper. And to add a bit of interest I cut that paper in something other than straight.
