Merci, French Teacher

by karen @ carefree creations - Merci French Teacher

I have quite the list of cards to make for this year’s end of school. I’ve posted about half the cards I have made so far, and have a few more yet to make (I’m already sick of making teacher cards, help me!!).

My kiddo started French this year (try as I might to talk them into Spanish, their early start in ballet made them fall in love with French). This card is for the French teacher.

The background is done using the salted-watercolor technique.

It is hard to see in the photo, but I did stamp an Eiffel Tower image and silver embossed it.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Merci

Time Together

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge: #74 – colors.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #74

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Time Together

This is a card that took a couple tries, and some serendipity, to get right – but I’m glad I kept at it as I’m quite happy with the final outcome.

The clock face is stamped-off (second generation) of Midnight Muse ink (it is too dark as a first gen – especially next to the grey…just not enough contrast).

The flowers are done with Primrose Petals and (second-gen) Midnight Muse.

The sentiment – part from the Hands of Time set and part from the Round & Round set – is all stamped with Basic Grey. Originally I stamped the anniversary line centered under the other sentiment, but that didn’t feel right. So on my second attempt, I lined them all up right-justified. Much better.

When I die cut the clock hands, I had two pieces of grey cardstock together – but didn’t know that. Since it didn’t cut well, I put it through the machine again. That resulted in a perfect hand (where the intricate details popped right out) and a hand that the details stayed in. The more solid hand was definitely a better choice (the open one just faded into the background).

I did shave 1/8″ off the side of the card.

CASE-ing for More Teacher Cards

by karen @ carefree creations - Music Teacher Thank You

For this card, I CASEd Betsy’s card (last one in her post). I loved the music notes floating on the flourishes! I simplified by making my card a one layer card. I also opted for a slightly more masculine color palette.

For this card, I CASEd both Debbie Olson’s card as well as Heather’s card.

Flower Box for Mother’s Day

by karen @ carefree creations - Flower Box

These box in a card projects have been showing up everywhere and I just had to try one! I used Sandi MacIver’s tutorial. Though I did make my flaps a tiny bit shorter (I scored the flaps at 2 1/2 instead of 2 3/4).

This was actually harder than I thought it would be, but for a first try, I think it turned out pretty good.

Oh and I am now out of Lucky Limeade paper – if anyone has some they’d be willing to sell, please let me know – this is one of my favorite colors!!

Stand Under the Stars

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #72

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Stand Under the Stars

These stamp sets may have been out for a year, I only recently bought them. And this card is the reason. That sentiment is awesome and I decided I just had to have it.

I CASEd Pinefeather’s card – just changed up the sentiment and colors.

The background was made using a recent PTI Make-it-Monday tutorial: Water Splats. I used regular white cardstock and sponged on the ink then finished it up with water drops.

Originally I just stamped the star chart image with white ink but as it dried it pretty much just disappeared so I re-stamped (as close to the original placement as I could get) and heat embossed with white powder.

Belated Birthday

by karen @ carefree creations - Belated Birthday

So this here is a sneaky peek at tomorrow’s challenge…shhhh! My blog doesn’t have but a few followers, so I feel pretty safe in posting this.

You might be wondering why I’m posting this card instead of using it for tomorrow’s challenge post. It is because – to ME – this is not CAS…and tomorrow’s challenge is a clean-and-simple (CAS) challenge. I know to some folks this card, with its limited layers and simple design would indeed be considered CAS – and that is fine! – but for me, this is not CAS (I think it is the busy pattern paper).

But, I do like the card! It is fun and festive – something I definitely wanted to convey since it is belated.

And I used a stamp set whose images have yet to see ink (we’ll just pretend that we don’t know I got this set back in 2008, shall we?).

I did try a bit of a technique – the name of which is totally escaping me – on the background. The concept is that you emboss two pieces of paper together so they become embedded and appear seemless.

Just 4 more weeks of school!! Then I’m done with volunteering and PTA and maybe I can get back to doing some stamping! … at least until August 😉

Thanks for taking a peek!

Shades of Grey

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge: #70 – colors.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #70

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Shades of Grey

This was my first attempt at using embossing paste and a stencil. I definitely need to work on technique! I’m not sure how I got so much paste squished under the stencil, I did tape it down quite well. I suppose practice will help.

To do the gradated colors, I started with plain white paste and added re-inker drops.

Stamping on the paste also made a bit of a mess – it bled too much (but that was probably my fault as I was using lots of pressure to get between the paste – in hindsight I should have just used a marker to fill in). Live and learn!

I do like the concept of the card.

Sweet Strawberry Wishes

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge: #69 – sketch.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #69

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Sweet Birthday

I decided to make my card a window card. And, score, this is a one layer card!

To make the windows, I used a square die from the Make a Wish die set.

Here is the inside:

I like this because I have a hard time writing on such a wide canvas, now it feels more comfy.
