Critter Christmas

I’ve been wanting to make this card ever since I bought this set last year. I originally did this thinking it would be one of the mass-produced I created for my friend, but it was too much trouble for doing more than one!

Thanks for taking a peek!

Sending Holiday Wishes

I was so excited when Papertrey came out with dies for this Poinsettia flower! I die cut both sizes (from Sweet Blush) and stamped the line art images with Autumn Rose ink. The flowers are layered with dimensionals.

The card base is their new Limeade Ice (I wish I could get the brightness correct for this color). It is a bit untraditional, but those are my favorite!

I used the Simple Stripes impression plate to emboss the top half of my card. To do that, I cut cardboard to be the dimensions I wanted to be embossed (in this case 5 1/2 x 3). Then I positioned the impression plate onto the card base and used my card board as a shim (instead of the full-size rubber mats).

The final touch was a bit of silver glitter pen in the flower center.

Deck the Halls

This is another card I created for my friend.

I’m really happy how this turned out. I think even though the colors are traditional and there is a lot of green – the pop of sparkly red really makes this card.

I try to keep all the card pretty flat for easy mailing, but I needed to put a bow on this! I used some silk ribbon so that it wouldn’t amount to much and I think it will still mail just fine.

Peace on Earth

Getting some Christmas cards done for a friend.

This card was inspired by Lynn’s card (1st one). I really loved the embossed sentiment panel and the holly accent. I even found a scripty sentiment in my stamps!

I didn’t have an embossed rectangle though, so I ended up stitching – and then I stitched the pattern paper panel…which led me to stitch the holly leaves. I made 6 of these cards (and I really don’t like do more than 1 or 2 of any design). I don’t think I’ll be breaking out the sewing machine again any time soon!

The sentiment panel is white – I may try to take another photo during the day to see if I can get better coloring.

FYI – Birthday Quilt

It is time for another For Your Inspiration challenge. Check out the latest challenge -> FYI36.

Is this not a beautiful scene? I would love to be sitting on that hill right now! The rainbow of colors and happy feeling is where I drew my inspiration for my card.

I really wanted to use all the colors from the photo, but I didn’t want it to look like a rainbow. I had a few failed attempts at other ideas, but this one turned out wonderful (and it was so easy!).

I kept to white as my card base and accents because I didn’t want to darken the happy feeling at all.

I stamped the sentiment a little high in the frame, so to help I added a few gemstones.

Blue Rose

As usual, I’m trying to catch up on more challenges (and I’ll be gone this weekend too, so more non-stamping time, boo). So this card is for the CAS-ual Friday color challenge (cfc63).

I love these colors! When I stamped the rose, I only used the top 2 layers of the stamp so that there would be plenty of white showing through – I think it makes it look more graphic/modern.

As for the layout – I started by trimming the card base down to just 4″ wide (a trick I learned from Maile Belles). Then I embossed the scallop square – it is harder to get that straight than I thought it would be, gah! Finally the rose is mounted with dimensionals.

Summer at Night

CAS-ual Friday’s latest challenge is: Back in Black.

I admit I was a little intimidated at first. Even a traipse through my digital index didn’t come up with anything immediately.

Then I found a cool fabric on Pinterest (first photo at this source).

I loved the bold waves of color and used that inspiration to create my card. I love how the black makes those bright colors pop even more!

The sentiment is stamped with white craft ink and embossed with glitter/clear embossing powder.

Life is Sweet – PTI Blog Hop

Today is PTI’s blog hop! Check it out.

I love these colors and of course – flowers! Since I just received my new rose set, I had to ink it up!

I stamped my rose first. I used Lemon Tart, then Melon Berry, and finished with Berry Sorbet. Well when I was done, it was very yellow/orange. I put together my card but kept to the yellow/orange scheme (figuring I would just save this card for a future post and create a new one for the hop). I originally used Summer Sunrise as the color that peeked out from under the white edger panel (because it matched what the lemon/melon combo turned into). I was happy with it – and set it aside.

After an hour or so I came back to the card and the ink had changed colors! Now the top Berry Sorbet inking looked more Melon and the middle Melon inking looked a lot LESS like Summer Sunrise. Instead of ripping the card up, I cut a small piece of Melon cardstock and tucked it under the white edger panel and voila – it worked! I was so happy. And to me, since I’m using more of the colors from the challenge, I felt I could use the card for the hop.

I did try a Berry Sorbet strip instead and I think it worked, but it turned the card much brighter, which was not what I was going for – so I stayed with Melon.

I love happy accidents!

FYI – Celebration of Blue

It is time for another For Your Inspiration challenge. Check out the latest challenge -> FYI33.

This photo makes me smile – I think it is the beautiful sky and green grass. What catches my eye first are the tall, narrow trees. I definitely wanted those represented in my card.

Since the trees were my first requirement, I started there. I searched for a composition that utilized vertical strips. I ended up using a sketch I found at 2Peas (saturday sketch).

Next I looked for a label/frame that reminded me of the building in the inspiration photo. I tried many things, but finally settled on the Celebrations set from Papertrey.

My final touches were to emboss the background with stripes and add ribbon and buttons.

Independence Day

With all the recent fires here in Colorado, we did some donating to help support the fire companies involved. I, of course, couldn’t just send a check – I needed a card.

I came up with this quick and easy design. And liked it so much I made extras.

The extras will be used by my kids to send to our troops. Today we’ll be thinking of all those things we can do because of our freedoms.

FYI – these card will be getting to the troops via Operation Write Home.
