Balloons Squared

Just getting in a little weekend stamping. I created this card for the Moxie challenge – In My Beautiful Balloon.

This card isn’t my favorite, but it isn’t horrible, lol. Not much to really talk about. I chose the pattern paper because of it being bright and I knew as soon as I saw the squared pattern what I would do. I cut the pattern so the white “grout” would act as another mat for the focal panel. And I chose to use the Curly Label punch to help break up the square-ness.

Masked Leaves

Wow, it took me a long time to figure out what to do with PTI’s latest Make-It-Monday challenge (mim10). The challenge was to use dies for masking. The sample created in the video used reverse masking.

Since no idea was presenting itself automagically, I decided to get all my PTI dies out and rifle through them until the muse got interested. I finally settled on using the leaf dies, but I could easily have done this same thing with flowers.

Anyway, the way I did it: I took a piece of printer paper and cut it to card front size. Then I ran it through my Big Shot with the leaf die, moved the die, ran it through again, ditto (for 3 leaves). Then, just like Lisa’s video, I added repositionable glue and adhered it to my card base. Next was sponging – I used 2 colors per leaf and chose to go from green (summer), to yellow (fall), ending with brown (winter). Finally, with the mask still in place, I went back and stamped the Geometrics grid background over the sponged leaves using vanilla ink.

Of course then I just sat and stared at the card not knowing what to do next! Obviously I figured something out 🙂

Thanks for taking a peek.

Rainbow Flowers

I created this card for the Make it Monday challenge (mim9) which was to use heat embossing.

I think I was feeling a bit creative tonight as I didn’t use a sketch for this card (*shocking* I know). Heck my muse was so much in charge that I don’t even remember how I got started with this one! [Now if only she’d stick around for awhile.]

I think first came the decision to do clear embossing with sponging (in a rainbow of course). Since I was going with rainbow flowers, I decided to send this card off to my niece (she’s in college-hence the “miss you”), so I kept the rest of the card bright & cheery.

Oh, and I have to tell you my “snowflake”. [Sidenote, my mom and I call it the “snowflake” technique because the first time we decided to cover up a mistake, we ended up using a snowflake.] I sponged the flower heads with the rainbow colors and then went back and added sponging to the stems. The stem sponging *so* did not look right, so I covered up most of the sponging with the ribbon.

When I was putting the card together, I did wonder whether it was balanced or not. I thought about adding something to that top left corner, but instead, I moved the sentiment a little off the card on the left and then added glitter centers to the flowers. I’m thinking the glitter helps with the balance, so the top/left doesn’t feel as empty. What do you think? Could I have achieved balance a better way?

Thanks for taking a peek!

Easter Patterns

This card started as an attempt at the blending challenge for PTI’s Make-it-Monday, but my blended panel really wasn’t any good. The rest of the card had potential, so I didn’t chuck it all.

The layout is a CardMap from Dec 2010 (PageMaps).

The card needs something to make it pop, but I’m not sure what that thing is. If you have a suggestion, I’d love to hear it. Click on the photo to see it larger.

Blended Thoughts

My company has departed and the first thing I did was stamp for Papertrey’s latest Make-it-Monday challenge (mim8). The challenge was to use a sponge to blend ink colors in the background.

It took me awhile before I could come up with an idea. I think I chose my colors before deciding on doing a silhouette. I used Lemon Tart, Spring Moss, and Aqua Mist to create the background.

I’ve had an embossed frame card base in my scrap pile for months so I decided I could use it on this card. Instead of using it as a card base, I just used the frame.

When it came time to stamp the large blue stem on the front, my Aqua wasn’t up to the task, so I switched to StampinUp’s retired Soft Sky. Of course stamping with that necessitated the use of the Sky card stock for the ribbon label too.

I like how the yellow lightens up the feel of the card. Overall I’m pretty happy with this one. Thanks for stopping by!

Birthday Bug

Time for a Make-it-Monday challenge! Today’s challenge was to use Copic markers to add shading to colored cardstock (mim7). Flowers would be my first choice, but since I’ve done that (my posy) I wanted to try something else. I thought this bug would be a great stamp for the technique.

In addition, I used a Sweet Sunday Sketch (sss109) for my layout.

I’m not sure I did all that good with the technique, but I think the card is cute enough. For the headlights and bumper I used a white pencil to lighten those areas.

Happy Birthday

Designer Puns

This is another masculine card I made for next month. My cousin does interior design, hence the choice of stamps. To bring a little life to the card, I chose a die shape for the focal panel and I embossed the pattern paper. The chair is paper pieced with coordinating DSP. Finally I used a sticker border from an old SU scrap kit.

A tip for matting the dies. I cut two of the same size dies – one in vanilla and one artichoke. In addition, on the vanilla one, I also used the die to emboss it. Then I just trimmed the embossed edge off and now I have a perfect mat.

I even did the inside of this one!

Basically I just brought all the elements from the front to the inside. I used a larger size of the same die shape, then added a bit of the DSP and sticker. A stamped sentiment and the card is ready to go!

Created for the Passion for Papertrey blog challenge (Piece Out).

Lovely Day

The latest Make-It-Monday challenge (mim6) was all about partial embossing using PTI’s impression plates.

I wanted to do something a little different, so I went for embossing the middle of a panel. This is the reverse of the frame embossing that got popular awhile ago (like this one). I chose to use the Moroccan Motifs plate because it goes so well with the Fillable Frames #10 shape.

My sandwich was: clear plate, impression plate, cardstock, chipboard shim, tan mat (not pictured, sorry), clear plate. I created the chipboard shim from a piece of that cardboard that comes in DSP packs. I cut it to the size I needed (in this instance 2 x 5.5).

I added an embossed line at the top to help delineate my debossing. Now this isn’t fool-proof – you’ll notice a little extra debossing above my line…I’ll have to play a little more to figure that out. Even still, I’m pretty stoke about this new option for my impression plates.

Thanks for stopping by!

March Birthday

Nichole Heady (PTI) started a weekly challenge – Make It Monday. This week’s challenge is to use distressed edges (MIM5). I was explaining the challenge to my kiddo (whose card is shown below) and they said “like frayed fabric edges”. So that got me thinking – I’d use the cotton batting to make clouds. That was the start of my card.

Since I wasn’t sure the clouds would be enough to qualify for the challenge, I decided to do traditional distressed edges. First I sewed around the panel; then I distressed the edges; finally I sponged white ink along the edges. The rest is pretty obvious.

My kiddo played along too. They used PTI paper, ribbon, and the Butterfly Dreams stamp set. Their distressed edges are the mat for the focal image – one of my old tie-dye t-shirts!

2010 Papertrey Favorite

It is that time of year again – Papertrey Anniversary. Once again I find myself without supplies due to a move. Thankfully Nichole’s first anniversary celebration challenge is one I can do without supplies! All I have to do is pick my favorite card I made in 2010 using PTI supplies. Hrm…I may be able to do this challenge without supplies, but a challenge it is!

I *love* Papertrey products! But then what is not to love – they are high quality products created with much thought (and love). So it isn’t a surprise that I own quite a few sets – and that most of my cards use PTI images.

I knew I wouldn’t be able to pick one favorite, so I narrowed my list down to my top six and had my hubby pick his favorite. He chose the new home card I made for my brother. I used the Boards & Beams set and colored it with Copics. (Here is a link to the original post: New Home card.)

If you are interested, here are my other top choices:

Thanks for stopping by. I’ll be moving into my new home in a couple weeks and I can’t wait to get my hands inky again!
