Autumn Vine

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Autumn Vine | by karen @ carefree creations

This color scheme made me think of Autumn. I wasn’t ready to break out the pumpkins yet, so I went with a vine and gingham combination. The Vine & Berry set is one of my favorites from way back.

My layout was somewhat decided by the imperfect stamping of the wheel. I used the vine to cover up the worst of the overlap. The vine is fussy cut and the sentiment is popped-up but nestled in the vine.

I hope you join us at CAS Colours & Sketches!

A Little About the Challenge: This weekly challenge is posted on Tuesday, and alternates between color and sketch (if there is a 5th week in the month you get the double dose of color & sketch).

Bugging You

And here is my take:

Bugging You | by karen @ carefree creations

So, I fell in love with this set when Stampin’Up brought it out last year. Of course I waited until it was on the retired list before I decided to buy it. I love the set, but never knew what to do with it.

The colors for this challenge stumped me until I saw the bugs and I knew just how to use the colors. I didn’t have a good sentiment in my stash, so I printed one out using a fun font from the internet.

My layout is inspired by this card by Susan Raihala.

Birthday Toile

Today’s card is for the Less is More Challenge in collaboration with AAA Cards. The challenge is a one-layer card with a colored card base.

Here is my card:

Birthday Toile | by karen @ carefree creations

I white embossed an old toile stamp set onto a navy card base. Though you can’t really see it in the photo – especially as the open spaces are just too small – I did color the flowers a pale pink and the leaves a pale blue.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Southwest Hello

And here is my take:

Southwest Hello | by karen @ carefree creations

I really loved this color combo when I saw it. I wasn’t sure what I would do with it, but once I started looking, I knew this southwest feel would be perfect.

The inside of the motif is done with a copper Wink of Stella pen. It isn’t as sparkly as I would like, but that just means the small sentiment stands out more – which to me is what should happen.

Fireworks & Sparkles | by karen @ carefree creations

I love fireworks so it was a no brainer that I also love this sparkler stamp set. I thought the set was perfect for this sketch.

The rhinestones in the centers are colored with Sharpie markers. I think this is the first time I’ve used Sharpies instead of Copics. I think the Sharpies actually ended up being brighter and less opaque. I may have to use them in the future!

Fox Says Hi

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

Here’s my take:

Fox Says Hi | by karen @ carefree creations

When I saw these colors, I immediately wanted to use the coral to stamp a fox! The rest of the card just came together after that.

All the stamped images are fussy cut and then popped up with craft foam.

Normally I don’t have much to say in my posts, but today…

Trying to come up with post titles after years of blogging is HARD! Of course the internet sensation “what does the fox say” popped into my head and wouldn’t leave, so I went with it. Did you know that thing is about 4 years old? I’m used to internet memes going stale quick and it feeling like it was ages ago but finding out it was only weeks or months…but this one is really years! Of course I feel like 2000 was just a couple years ago (and yet, the last 6 months have felt like years). Time is messed up!! Is it cuz I’m old or because I spend way to much time on the internet?

Moving on. I hope by the time this post goes live (in 3 weeks – I’m working way ahead) that this problem will be remedied, but right now I am missing craft supplies. I’m a fairly organized person – things have a place and I clean up when I’m done. So how am I missing things?? And I don’t mean like a tiny clear stamp either. One of the items I’m missing is my Sentiment Splits Curve Vertical cover plate die from Papertrey. The last time I used it was months and months ago (I used what I die cut with it just a month ago, but the actual cutting was back in December). Anyway…it is not where it belongs. I thought the curved bit at the bottom would have been perfect as the landscape for my card today…instead I had to find a different solution. I ended up using a large piece from the Waves cover plate. I feel like I’m loosing my mind!

Here’s my take:

Lost Without You | by karen @ carefree creations

I’ve been wanting this big dipper image for ages. I got lucky when my demo decided to purge it from her stash (thanks mom!).

I did a galaxy technique for the strip. The dipper is embossed and cut out; the surrounding stars are embossed on the card base.

Tropical Mother’s Day

Tropical Mother's Day | by karen @ carefree creations

My final Mother’s Day card.

This one is for my mom. Since she’s a Stampin’Up demo, I wanted to use SU products. Unfortunately I don’t have many current flower sets. I do have the wonderful Botanical Builder die set! I love these dies!

One of the cards I picked out as inspiration for my mother cards had die cutting where the negative space was card base. I added the vein stamping to the card base to add a bit of detail.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Spring Tulips

And here is my take:

Painted Tulips | by karen @ carefree creations

I’m breaking out an oldie from Stampin’Up. I am pretty much dedicated to photopolymer stamps, but I do have some old rubber ones that I just can’t let go of. Spring Garden is one of them; I just love the painted look of the images.

The color scheme was just so very springy to me that I had to go with flowers. The day I made this card it actually snowed (just a dusting on the grass) so stamping with spring colors was helpful!
