Nordic Waltz

This month’s WaltzingMouse blog waltz theme is Winter/Christmas. WMS recently designed a set called Nordic Winter. I love this set – it reminds me of all those cool sweaters 🙂

To get started with my card I spent {we won’t say how long} surfing the web looking at Nordic sweaters getting ideas. I eventually sketched my own pattern based on all that I saw.

Thanks for stopping by! And don’t forget to check out the others: Waltz Thread.

Merry Christmas

WMS SOAP CASE

Whew, an all acronym title – I feel like I’m either shouting or talking military, lol.

I created this card for Claire’s SOAP CASE challenge (read about it here).

I chose Tosh’s beautiful card (see). I really loved the simple design with bright colors and the white on white borders.

I tried to stick to the idea of her card without completely copying it. I did my borders top and bottom. I used Teeny Trees and added some ribbon.

I tried to emboss the stars, but I either used old pigment ink or old powder as it didn’t do as well as I hoped. No worries, I just went to plan B and added some cute silver jewels.

Thanks for stopping by!

Christmas Greetings
Stamps: Teeny Trees (WMS);
Colors: White, Black (PTI); Limeade, Suede (SU);
Other: ornament border punch (MS); silver jewels (Hobby Lobby); Poppy Satin ribbon (PTI);

Simple Cupcake

This card was created using a sketch from Clean & Simple blog (FTL164).

I really wanted to make this a one-layer card by doing selective embossing, but everything I tried did not work. I’ve done this in the past, but not with a Cuttlebug folder. I did find a video on YouTube, but even after following that it didn’t work 🙁 Oh well.

Since the cupcake image is so small, I only used two colors to keep the palette simple.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Happy Birthday
Stamps: Frame It (WMS);
Ink: markers (Copic); Brown (Memento);
Paper: White, Autumn Rose (PTI);
Other: Swirl embossing folder (CB); Stickles;

Peace and Plenty

I created this card for the WaltzingMouse sketch challenge (wmsc71). As I was looking at the sketch, I was trying to see if I had anything that would work for the circle. I recently purchased the Peace & Plenty set which has a wreath in it.

I pulled out my set and sure enough, I thought it would work. My card isn’t quite the same as the sketch, but I think it is close enough to count, and the sketch is certainly where I started.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Ink: Brown (Memento); markers (Copic); Brown (Palette); Crumb (SU);

Thanksgiving Waltz

October’s Waltz theme is thanksgiving. That is my favorite holiday. It has also been a long time since we all got together – but it is happening this year…I’m so looking forward to it!!

I knew right away which stamp set I would use – Teeny Trees. I love that set but it doesn’t see enough ink! The font combination for the sentiments is great. And hey, there’s even a thanksgiving sentiment in the set, so it was meant to be!

I knew I wanted a plaid pattern at the top so I dug through my paper and found some old StampinUp paper. Even though the paper is green and blue I wanted the trees to have fall foliage. I think the brown flourish helps tie the card together.

The layout uses Iwona’s sketch (ssc33). And with the touch of burlap behind the corduroy button, the card also has Moxie Texture.

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Thanksgiving
Stamps: Teeny Trees, Fancy Flourishes – Scallops & Dots (WMS);
Colors: Kiwi, Vanilla; Riding Hood, Curry, Pumpkin (SU); Brown (Palette);
Other: Murifield DSP, Corduroy Button, Kiwi Ribbon (SU); Twine; Burlap;

Yuletide Blessings

I created this card for the Waltzingmouse sketch challenge (wmsc68). This was a fun sketch to figure out.

I did some layering (paper tole I think it is called) on the pine cones to help them pop a bit.

Thanks for stopping by!

Yuletide Blessings
Stamps: Festive Foliage, Compliments of the Season, Gingham & Co (WMS);
Colors: Espresso, Cherry, Hunter, Vanilla (SU);
Other: tag die (SU);

Blue Cameo

I created this card to mail to a friend who likes blue: (Lydia @ UnderstandBlue).

To create the cameo, I used lots of white embossing powder; I did about 3 layers, restamping with craft ink for each layer – I LOVE clear stamps!!. Once that was done, I used my embossing buddy again and this time stamped the frame and gold embossed.

For the rest of the card, knowing I wanted lots of blue, I used some old SU DSP for the background. To break up the blue a bit I added a layer of pink (light so it wasn’t overpowering).

I used WM Sketch #61 for the layout.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Stamps: Cameo Maker, Labels 4, Fancy Phrases Scallops & Dots (WMS);
Colors: Brocade Blue, Pink Pirouette, Gold (SU);
Other: Gold & White embossing powders; Dainty Lace border die (MFT); Labels 4 die & Oval dies (Spellbinders);

Japense Garden

I created this card for the recent Waltzingmouse sketch (wmsc60). I was inspired by Lynn’s Asian Garden card – see it here. I loved her image composition and the black & red colors.

To keep with the sketch I had to put my own spin on Lynn’s card. I did keep her stamp composition. I added kraft to the color palette (mostly because I didn’t like having black or red for that panel of the sketch). I also used vanilla ink to sponge the edges – to get a soft feel.

I really love the weave stamp that is part of this set and used it on the kraft panel. The rhinestones are colored with Copics. I am very disappointed that there isn’t a cherry color Copic! There is a red, but it is a bright red – nothing really darker…so strange.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Stamps: Asian Gardens & Additions (WMS);
Colors: Black, Kraft (PTI); Cherry (SU);
Other: ribbon (PTI); die (SU); rhinestones (Kaiser); edger die (PTI);

Birthday Goofiness

My brother loves teasing my girls by calling on their birthday and having them say happy birthday to him. Well, this past weekend was my birthday and he and my sister came to visit and help me celebrate.

His birthday was last month and, while I did call, I did not get a card to him. So I thought I’d make this for him and give it to him on my birthday. He got a kick out of it 🙂

In making the card, I used racing cars because he enjoys watching nascar. I used a WMS sketch for the layout (wmsc55).

Birthday Wishes
Stamps: Free Spirit Boy, Fancy Phrases, Off Beat Backgrounds, Labels 1 (WMS);
Colors: Kraft, Grey, Black, Red, Green, Blue (SU ink, PTI paper);
Other: Labels 1 die (Spellbinders);

A Birthday Waltz

It is the 17th of the month, which means it is time for a Waltzingmouse Blog Waltz (much more dignified than hopping, eh? 😉 ). The theme for this waltz is “birthday”.

My mother-in-law has a birthday coming up in August, so this is a perfect opportunity to make her card! I love the Asian Garden stamp set, so that was an easy choice. I wasn’t sure what I would do, but as I was doing my inspiration search, I found a past WMS sketch challenge (wmsc49). Since I wasn’t able to play the sketch challenge at the time, I thought it was a perfect time to do so!

Thanks for stopping by!
