Welcome Baby

Tomorrow is a holiday, so I’ms staying up late to stamp more (it is only 8, but I’m usually reading, unwinding by now). I’m playing along with Simply Less is More: Alphabet challenge.

Welcome Baby | by karen @ carefree creations

The theme is alphabet. My mind immediately went to monograms, but I wasn’t sure if that fit, so I looked through my stash for an alphabet stamp. This set stood out. I don’t need baby cards, so I wasn’t sure what colors to use. Originally, I tried yellow and grey, but that didn’t work, so I re-stamped the foot in blue, cut it out, and popped it up. Much better.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Celebrating PTI 2014

This card is for PTI Celebrating 2014 and Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

Hello | by karen @ carefree Creations

I got the color scheme from a Feb 2016 PTI Inspiration Card. I really love jade, teal, and hawaiian together!

The sentiment is 5 layers (though no layers under the “lo”).

Thanks for taking a peek!

Celebrating PTI 2013

This card is for both the PTI 2013 and CAS(e) This Sketch challenges.

All the Time | by karen @ carefree creations

I’ll admit, when I first saw the CASe sketch, I was scratching my head and pretty much figured I would just succumb and use a circle. In the PTI Hands of Time set there is one image in there with the side cut off. As I was trying to put together my PTI card, it took a while, but it finally dawned on me that that image would be perfect for that sketch!! This card makes me so happy…it turned out just like I thought!!

I used my MISTI to ink the clock image using layers of ink and sponging to get the fade.

The sentiment is layered 3 times to give it enough dimension and shadow to stand out against the detail of the clock face.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Celebrating PTI 2012

This post is for the year 2012. I decided to pair up Hello Sunshine, a highlighted set, with another 2012 set: Flipping Out (because flip flops and sunshine just go together!). Here’s my card:

Flippin' Sunshine | by karen @ carefree creations

The color combo is a bit different for me, but I like it – bright and happy!

I used a Keep is Simple frame for the tag. To make it shorter, I die cut it once, then went back and adjusted the paper so the tag end of the paper was in the die, lower than the stitched lines (thankfully that fit my sentiment).

Thanks for taking a peek!

happy summer!

Celebrating PTI 2011

On to the year 2011! It was a choice between Winter Penguin and Year of Flowers Collection. I probably would have gone with YOF, because flowers, but I asked my kid and they picked penguin.

Hello | by karen @ carefree creations

I don’t normally do things with sentiments – I like them to be very readable and make sense. For some reason, this layout just came to me and I couldn’t let it go.

I debated about adding color to the penguin, but I didn’t want to draw too much attention to him as I wanted the “hello” to stand out.

Now, if you don’t want me to ruin the card for you, stop reading. Once I was done, I asked my kid what she thought and they said “oh, how cute, hello penguin!”. I was relieved because I was afraid it would come across as “hell penguin”. Of course, once I told them that, that is all they can see *evil grin* One day I’ll add tiny red gems to the eyes and mail it to them!

It’s a 3 day weekend!! I’m really hoping to catch up on my PTI challenges! This post is for Celebrating 2010 where I picked Beautiful Blooms 2 to play with.

You | by karen @ carefree creations

I’ve paired up Beautiful Blooms 2 with another 2010 set, Top Ten, to make a card about one of my kids. I picked colors I thought they would like.

The “you” die cut is 3 layers.

Celebrating PTI 2009

I’m trying to catch up with Papertrey’s celebration. This post is for 2009. I’m also playing along with CASology: Romance.

Here is my card:

Sitting Together | by karen @ carefree creations

I love the On My Couch set. It is a timeless style and with solid and outline images it is very versatile. As a nod to another great set, Damask Designs, I used some of that pattern paper to help form my scene.

This sentiment is perfect for the romance theme (at least for me and my hubby), but to help emphasize it, I added a heart too.

Sweet & Salty

This card is for the Less is More challenge: Opposites Attract.

I admit, I was stymied at first, but I finally got the idea of doing sweet & salty. It was fun trying to figure out how to represent that and what sentiment to use. Here’s my card:

You Have Great Taste | by karen @ carefree creations

Since the images I wanted to use were a mix of outline and solid, I decided that doing a no-line coloring technique would work best. I’ve decided I enjoy watercoloring more than copics, so I broke out my distress inks.

I stamped the images with Antique Linen (the softest color I have), then went back in with my colors. I needed a little bit of accent – so I added chocolate chip sprinkles (brown beads) and salt (white beads).
