Thinkers are Heroes

Another card today! This time I was looking through my index for another challenge when this one came to me; for the CASology: Hero challenge and the latest CAS(e) this Sketch.

Here is my card:

Thinkers are Heroes | by karen @ carefree creations

When I first saw the “hero” cue card, I figured I wouldn’t be participating because I don’t have any of the comic book type stamps (mostly because I haven’t found a set that has what I want). I went on to stamp for another challenge, but as I was looking through my index, I saw the Paper Smooches Chemistry set and realized that scientists are heroes. I didn’t have a sentiment that I wanted, so I looked up the Smarty Pants set and it all came together. And with the light bulb going on – this card can be for any thinker: scientists, teachers, and philosophers. (Oooh, Astronauts could be another card. I really need 4 day weekends!!)

Congratulations
Stamps: Smarty Pants, Great Chemistry, Sentiment Sampler, Notebook Paper (Paper Smooches – PS);
Ink: Black (Momento); markers (Copic);
Paper: Spring Rain, White, Harvest Gold (Papertrey Ink); Prestwick pattern paper (Stampin’Up);
Other: Borders 2 die, Flag Tag die (PS);

PTI Celebrating 2007

This is Papertrey Ink’s 10th Anniversary! They are celebrating with a month full of events. Yesterday they introduced the design team. Today is all about their first year: 2007. I remember when they first started; their products were (and are still) unique! They featured 5 stamp sets on the blog today. I picked Beautiful Blooms to play with.

Thanks | by karen @ carefree creations

This set has so many awesome features (the large leafy branch being one of them). This ornamental flower image is one of my favorites.

My stamping style has changed somewhat since 2007; my cards tend to be much more clean-and-simple now.

The flower outlines are stamped with Enchanted Evening. The large flowers have Stormy Sea solids; the smaller flowers are Ocean Tides.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Thanks
All supplies Papertrey Ink unless otherwise noted.

Analogous Hello

I’m playing along in the Less is More challenge (check out their new blog design & logo!!).

Analogous Hello | by karen @ carefree creations

When I first saw this challenge, I wanted to do blues & purples. Not sure what changed my mind (besides the fact that I love autumn leaves).

To ink the images, I started with my lightest color, partially inked with the next color and used a sponge to soften the lines. After I stamped that, I went back and partially inked the stamp with the darkest color, again using a sponge to soften the edge – and over stamped the original impression. I added a few sequins in the same colors as the ink (or well, as close as I could get).

Thanks for taking a peek!

Youthful Memories

This card is for the CASology: Youth and Fab Friday: Sketch challenges.

Here is my card:

Childhood Memories | by karen @ carefree creations

The CASology cue card is Youth. One of my favorite things to do as a kid was swing. I just got this stamp set and just had to use it for this challenge.

I thought the Fab Friday sketch was perfect for this image too. I like how the opening is like a peek into the past.

You Deserve a Treat

Today’s card is for the Addicted to CAS challenge whose code word is Pet.

Here is my card:

You Deserve a Treat | by karen @ carefree creations

I’ve had this robot set for a while now, but haven’t used it. When I was checking my index for a pet, I saw this little robot dog and wanted to use it.

Since the robots are grey, I added my color with the accents.

The sentiment is created on a computer and printed onto the cardstock.

Super Star Birthday

Super Star BDay | by karen @ carefree creations

I needed a masculine birthday card. Generally the cards I make are fairly clean and simple. Sometimes I feel that doesn’t compete well with store-bought cards. I wanted this card to be a bit more. I have a hard time doing a bit more, lol!!

I started by looking around for a sketch that required a bit more. I found a sketch from Papertrey that I thought would work (PTI March 2016 Inspiration Card). I ended up not using PTI stamps, but I like the finished product, and really, that is what it is all about.

The background is a chevron cover plate die that I used to emboss the card base.

Birthday Balloons

Today’s card is for the Less is More: Balloons challenge.

Here is my card:

Birthday Balloons | by karen @ carefree creations

I started this card because I need a card for my boss – his birthday is Monday. I work at a school and our school colors and blue and silver. I tried to go that way, but once I settled on the fabulous glitter paper, I just couldn’t make it masculine enough for my tastes. I love this glitter paper – the glitter isn’t too chunky and it has such a wonderful sparkle to it.

Originally the card had 3 different colored blue balloons. Once I decided that it wasn’t for my boss, I tossed those aside and picked two lighter colors – a blue and a purple. I used plain vellum and colored them with distress inks. I liked the vellum because seeing though the die cuts is more realistic for balloons.

Of course adhering vellum is why I hardly ever use it! These balloons are hanging on by the skin of their teeth! The blue balloon has a bit of glue where the purple one overlaps. The purple balloon is stuck down where it overlaps the glitter.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Ink: Island Indigo (StampinUp); Milled Lavender, Tumbled Glass distress inks (Ranger);

Other: Birthday Style die, Balloon Strings die (PTI);

Birthday Succulent

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

This is the fifth Tuesday and so it is a Timeless Tuesday double challenge. One of the ideas behind the “Timeless Tuesday” challenge was to bring back retired colors paired with a past sketch. I love, love, love Sage Shadow so I knew I would definitely use it in my first Timeless Tuesday challenge.

Here is my take:

Desert Succulent | by karen @ carefree creations

Sage Shadow is one of my favorite colors, mostly because it is perfect for succulents. I do not have a green thumb, and Colorado isn’t the best place for succulents, so I don’t have any around me, but I do like to stamp them.

The succulent is 3 layers. The bottom layer was die cut, the other two were hand cut. I originally stamped on white, but it was too stark. I ended up with a pale cream that goes well with the orange colors.

I hope you join us at CAS Colours & Sketches!

Thanks for stopping by!

A Little About the Challenge: This weekly challenge is posted on Thursday, and alternates between color and sketch (if there is a 5th week in the month you get the double dose of color & sketch).
