Wicked Cool

I’m starting my Halloween cards (hopefully you won’t be sick of them by the time I’m done posting – I’ll try to post some non-Halloween cards to break it up). I loved this StampinUp set when I first saw it, but man, I found working with it to be somewhat difficult. Thankfully I found an awesome sketch from PageMaps (June 2010) that helped me lay this one out and I love it!

I colored the image with markers and cut them out. The ribbon is a fine fabric sorta thing. The SU Holiday Mini will have some cool black lace that would really work well on this card.

I think I am finally getting the hang of my sewing machine. While these lines are not perfectly straight, they are definitely much better than my usual!

Delightful Halloween

I’m trying to get ahead on my assignments. This card will be for mom’s October stamp camp. I needed to create a card using Batty For You. I used a lot of white space in this card, but I love the results. I don’t have any current paper, so using the wide stripey ribbon helps give the card some interest.

I love spooky Halloween cards, but sometimes I need some friendly ones. I think the bright colors and cute image really make for a friendly card.

Apple of My Eye

This week’s Clean & Simple challenge on SCS was a sketch (cas80) based on a card by stampingout.

The green apple is actually a combo of colors. I started with a Green Galore apple but it was too bright. I over-stamped it with Pear Pizzaz (which on its own was too drab). I like how it turned out. This is definitely a big reason I love clear stamps!

After looking at the card for a bit, I decided to add the button. I’m not sure I like it, but it is there to stay.

Clean meets Cute

The latest challenge at Embellish Magazine Blog is a Cute & Clean style. I can do clean and I love cute, heck even the colors for the challenge were awesome.

The shading on the sentiment was done by coloring a bit with the Versamark marker.

My niece is heading back to college this week. I thought this card would be a good way to let her know that we’re thinking about her.

Splash of Pink

Last night I had extra energy so I decided to stamp. I was very inspired by a recent posting at A Creative Mint (Neon Pink). I loved the tiny touches of pink with everything else being black, white, and grey.

I decided I would use the Argyle set from PTI for my splash of pink. The grey buck in the picture had me looking for a majestic animal – which apparently I don’t own, lol. I went with attitude instead. This cat is actually from a halloween set, but without the sentiment, it can be used for any ole reason. I have a few bold alphabets, but I didn’t feel like lining up letters, so I went with the boldest sentiment set I have. I added the final touch of pink with a rhinestone where the collar would be.

Dandelion Happiness

I know they shouldn’t, but dandelion’s make me happy! I love blowing those little poofs everywhere and watching the wind carry them far and wide.

This week’s CAS challenge on SCS (cas79) was a theme challenge – garden. I pulled out my favorite dandelion set and my (latest) favorite color and made a very happy card.

Baroque Decorations

My mom has some really old ornaments that I’m fairly certain were from when she was a kid. They are those glass ornaments with colored foil on the inside and sunken areas that were silver or gold. Anyway, that is what inspired me here.

The ornament was made by gold embossing the ornament stamp onto red cardstock and punching it out. Then punching another from plain cardstock. I then punched a circle from the center of the plain ornament and trimmed the topper from it. Finally I glued that bit over top the embossed version. The ‘window’ isn’t too obvious in the photo, but that is how I did it. I’m really happy with the result.

In the Way-Back Machine

I have too many stamps! Yes, I said it. I really need to do some purging. I think I haven’t yet because I unmount my stamps (completely – down to bare rubber) and I don’t know if that will keep people from wanting them – and I don’t want to deal with something like ebay. Anyway, I’m trying to use some of my older sets to help me decide what should go.

This card is made with two old Stampin Up sets – Simply Sweet (vases) and Alphabet Soup. I think I got Alphabet Soup free (because I can’t believe I spent money on it, it really isn’t my style). I got Simply Sweet when it retired. I really love border-like stamps but always have a hard time using them.

The layout is using the SCS Dirty Dozen July sketch. I thought it would be a perfect way to use the row of vases. Now if I could have colored the water better (i.e., chosen a better color) I would be much happier. Oh well.

Berry Spirals

The PTI Senior Design Team challenge this month was to use the old Spiral Bouquet set. I bought that set when it came out and have used it a few times – but not in a long time, so I thought I would play along.

I stamped the solid flowers directly on the card base. Then I used the spiral images over top and heat embossed glitter powder. For something different (at least from my normal), I used the Mat Stack 2 die for the sentiment.

I tried my hand at ruffled ribbon and um, it is harder than it looks, lol. I’m hoping it is just because my ribbon is so wide. I think I’ll have to try again with thinner stuff.

Faux Doily

Yesterday Betsy, a PTI Design Team Member, showed us how to make your own doily (read her post). That was pretty inspiring, so I had to give it a go.

Here is my final card. Since the point was the doily, I wanted it to be pretty visible. I always think victorian tea when I think doily, so I tried to recreate that a bit on the card. I stamped the doily on white, I’m wishing I had done cream as all my lace bits are old and not white, but this one wasn’t too bad. I used the Linen impression plate on the card base.

Here is a shot of just the doily. I used quite a few sets, but the base was actually the frame from the most recent anniversary set – Round and Round. I stamped it once then inked just the flourishy sides and went around the circle. The petals of the doily are made with an frame from Boxes Bags & Tags! The other little bits came from Borders & Corners sets. I finished off the doily with an image from the first anniversary set – Simple Little Things – and a button.
