Pause

I created this card to send to my mom. I like to make my cards for her using just StampinUp products so she can display them to her customers. This was my first inking of Elements of Style. I love the set, but I feel everything has been done with it already. Not that what I do is ever unique, but my preference is to come up with something of my own. Anyway, I do like how this turned out – and more importantly, mom loved it!

To make the background, I stamped the “gratitude” stamp from Define Your Life and then went back and overstamped with the flourish image from the Elements of Style set.

So, the title of this post is “pause” for a reason. This is my last post for a few months. In December we will be moving to Colorado. I still think we are nuts for moving in winter from Hawaii to Colorado, but I’m not in charge of the schedule, lol. While I get to fly on a plane, my craft supplies will be boxed up and then taken on a boat – for 6 weeks! If I really wanted I could probably try to make a few packets of stuff to take with me, but really, that is just more trouble than it is worth (especially as I only own one trimmer and it is a gargantuan).

I appreciate those of you who come and visit my blog and I hope you’ll come back in February when I should have some fresh cards to share.

New Home

My brother recently bought an old home and has spent much time fixing it up. I know he isn’t done, but I wanted to get a card in the mail to him.

I knew I wanted the card to feature the home from Boards & Beams. Since the image is so large, I needed a layout that was simple. I colored the image the same as the real house. I really love how this turned out!

I needed a couple quick/flat cards to mail out some gifties to some of my Secret Sister players. There was a challenge last month from my blog group to use supplies that hadn’t seen ink. I bought Just the Ticket a week or so after it came out, but hadn’t used it yet. So I decided that would be my starting point. Thankfully a few sentiments worked for my purpose. Next I decided a star was the perfect accent. I used one of the new star dies – the middle one, which doesn’t have any stamp associated with it. To help give the star some pizzaz, I stitched a border around the inside. Finally some embossing to finish up the card.

Birthday Rose

This flower stamp is why I started buying Copic markers! To do this flower I started with colored card stock, stamped the image three times, and cut out the layers. Then I created the shadows with the Copics. I put it all together with pop-dots. I love how it turned out!

Once I had the flower done, I had to figure out the rest of the card. I wanted the flower to be center stage, so I kept the card very simple. A trend I’m just getting around to is incorporating text/book-print papers. I used the PTI background stamp to create this card base (though I wish the stamp was longer so I didn’t have to worry about the overlap). I added the rhinestones to finish off the card.

Just Add Ink had a sketch challenge that I just loved (42). I decided to use a set from Waltzing Mouse that I hadn’t inked up yet. I love the weave pattern image in this set and had to use it. I pretty much followed the sketch. For the the accent I decided to use the bird image from the set.

I wanted to give the wood of the tree trunk a wood grain look, so before stamping I used PTI’s Wood Grain background set to pull off ink. The end result looks more distressed than wood grain. I don’t mind it for this card, but next time I want to see wood grain I’ll have to come up with a different way.

Blue Damask

Moxie Fab World is having a challenge: “Diggin’ On Damask“. I’ve owned PTI’s Damask stamp set since it came out, but I think I’ve only used it once before. That set intimidates me! This challenge made me realize I needed to figure out how to use the stamp set.

I made this card for my step-mother. It will be her birthday card. She loves light blue, so that was my starting point. I used an old Clean and Simple sketch for the layout (ftl29).

With Gratitude

To create my background, I embossed 3/4 of my top layer with the Guide Lines impression plate. Since the lines didn’t stand out enough for me, I went back with the Faux Ribbon set and stamped white ink. Now some folks are able to ink up their impression plate and embossed thus accomplishing both steps at once, but I do to much futzing with my paper – I’d end up with ink everywhere.

Recently, there was a discussion on the PTI forum about favorite anniversary sets. This Round & Round set is the latest and I hadn’t inked it up yet, so I thought I should. Since I decided to use the image as my focal point, I found a small butterfly in Butterfly Dreams that worked. That way I could stamp the Round image in one color and not worry about trying to color just the butterfly piece different.

Serene Sympathy

This week’s CAS challenge at SCS is about sympathy cards (cas91). Unfortunately, I needed to make one. I know I should have sympathy cards on hand because it is so hard to make them when I need them, but at the same time, I like making a card while the receiver is on my mind – kinda like weaving the love into the card.

I knew I wanted to keep it very neutral and calming. I just purchased the Life stamp set and decided to ink it up. When it came for choosing the ink, I was debating between Sahara Sand and River Rock. I ultimately chose River Rock because it is a warm shade, whereas Sahara Sand is cool.

Vintage Thoughts

I made this card for the Embellish Magazine challenge (Vintage).

I had originally intended this card as a one-layer card but I stamped the leaves too low and it left way too much ‘white’ space. So I chopped up the card and added a bunch of details. I do like how this turned out finally.

The thread I used is a Coats & Clark color called Spice. It is a wonderful reddish brown. My purchase was done online and I added this color just to fill up my basket for free shipping. It makes me happy that I used it!

A big thank you to my aunt who sent me a bunch of old lace – of which I used a bit on this card.
