School Acceptance

kth_congrats_schoolacceptance

My niece was recently accepted to an arts university. She plays the piano. I created this card to send to her.

I wasn’t sure how I wanted to color the piano, so I left it plain. That meant I needed the rest of the card to stay pretty simple as well. I added just a bit of pattern paper at the top to add color.

Birthday Rose

kth_bday_birthdayrose

This is my other “reject” card for the Paper Smooches CHA promo (Flag Tags die). I had so much fun playing with the stamps and dies that I had too many cards.

This is the card that first came to mind when I received the products.

The flower is stamped on 3 different pattern papers and then cut and layered.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Black Backgrounds

kth_bday_flowersonblack

Nichole is hosting the January PTI Blog Hop – where the theme was Black Backgrounds.

I used a recent retro sketch for my layout.

I really love how any color just pops off a black background!

I think I’ve used the Day Dreamer stamp set just once since I bought it, but now that there are coordinating dies – this set will get a lot of use. The dies make it so easy to layer/overlap the images.

I used an old set (Faux Ribbon) to create the lines the frame the sentiment.

Thanks for stopping by!

Birthday Party

kth_bday_patternparty

I created this card to introduce the Paper Smooches Flag Tags dies, but I ended up making a few cards and this one just didn’t make the cut (not that I don’t like it, I just think the other cards showed off the stamps and dies better). I have another “reject” to show tomorrow too!

I’m always needing birthday cards, and I thought creating a little border of flags would be fun. The flags are die cut from pattern paper.

To help frame the present image, I used a triangle stamp and the same colors as the flags to create a banner along the top.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Paper Smooches CHA Promo

NEW-DEC-2012-PS-logo-small THIRD DRAFT

Paper Smooches is showing off their CHA release during the entire month of January. 37 designers are participating along with the PS DT, so there will be a ton for projects to inspire you this month. Paper Smooches is known for their fun and whimsical hand-drawn stamps. They decided that it was time to broaden their product line to include DIES and wood mount stamps!

I have a project to share using NEW PS product that releases on February 1, 2013, at www.papersmoochesstamps.com along with many retail stores around the globe.

You will find a new blog link (or two) to follow every day in January at the PS Blog.

Paper Smooches is giving away $500. Worth of product! Hidden on FIVE of the participating blogs is a prize package worth $100. each. The prize includes a variety of stamp sets, wood mounts and dies. Comment on as many blogs as you can to increase your chances to be one of the five winners.

Deadline is January 30th – winners will be announced on the PS Blog on January 31st.

Now, onto my projects. I’m using Flag Tags stamps and dies!

kth_valentine_loveusewmuch

On this card I used 2 of the 3 dies and just 2 of the stamps. The stamps and dies are actually longer, but I trimmed (and selectively inked) them to make them shorter for this card orientation.

kth_bday_bird&rainbow

For this card, I’m using one of the solid flag stamps (full size).

This card is a white panel with the colored flags stamped on the far left (the panel is 3 3/4″ wide). I added bits of white card stock (the same height as the flag stamp) to the back of the panel, and lined them up to match with the stamped images, and left them to hang out over the berry card base.

Gold Star

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge -> #9 – sketch.

2013-01-24

And here is my take:

kth_encouragement_proudGoldStar

I’m not quite ready to make Valentine cards, so I looked through my stash to see what other large shape I could use. Since I needed an academic-based congrats card, I went with a star.

It is hard to tell in the photo but the stamped star image on the die-cut star is gold embossed.

Thanks for stopping by!

A Little About the Challenge: Posted every Thursday, the challenges alternate between color and sketch (if there is a 5th week you get the double dose of color & sketch).

Congrats

Star CASE

I’ve been in love with Laura Bassen’s work for a long while now. Early last year she posted this card that I pinned immediately. I really love the way she layered the negative die-cuts. I didn’t want to just out-right copy the card, but it has taken me all this time to figure out how to CASE it!

kth_encouragement_CongratsAwesome

I chose my colors so that I could send the card to a boy or a girl (we’ll just forget that I loaded it with bling thus, in my opinion, negating that goal).

Since my nieces and nephews are getting to the age where they are accomplishing much, I chose to go with a “congrats” theme so I’d have a good card on hand when needed.

The general layout of the card is from an upcoming challenge (this card just ended up a bit “more” than what is looked-for). Nonetheless, it is one of my favorites!

Butterfly Celebration

I created this card for 2 challenges. The first is a color challenge from Paper Smooches Sparks (Royalty Colors). The second is a layout challenge from CAS-ual Fridays (Long/Short).

Here is my card:

kth_bday_butterflycelebration_tall

For the CAS-usal Friday challenge, I made my card 4 x 8.

For the stamping, I started by inking up a solid rectangle stamp with light blue – inking very lightly in the middle and more generously along the edges. The butterflies are inked up with pink then kissed with a pattern in magenta. I added details to the butterflies with a dark blue. The sentiment is stamped in gray.

I popped the butterflies up on dimensionals for depth to an otherwise flat card.

Totally Tool Birthday

kth_bday_tools&wood

My brother-in-law’s birthday is coming up in a week, so I needed a masculine card. When he isn’t at one of his children’s many baseball games, he’s usually building something – so I got out my Totally Tool set.

Next up, for me, is determining layout. I turned to the latest Retro Sketch (rs47).

The tool images were stamped, colored (with Copics), and then cut out.

I didn’t have a birthday greeting that worked in the space, so I used a font instead. I did print it with a brown fill but it wasn’t right and instead of spending all night tweaking it, I just went over the color with my StampinUp Crumb Cake marker. I tried to stay inside the lines, but didn’t worry about full coverage as I thought the different bits of colors would add interest/depth.

One final touch was to add a couple staples. I know some folks don’t like staples, but I don’t mind them – especially when they reinforce a theme. I really like how they finish off the card.

Oh, I don’t mind staples, but I don’t like stuff showing on the inside of my cards. I added the staples to the white panel only and then taped it to the card base. This is fine for me as they are just decorative and not functional. If I needed them to be functational I would have decorated the inside so they were covered up.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Happy Birthday

CAS Sketch at SplitCoastStampers

The hostess of the Clean & Simple challenge at SplitCoastStampers asked me to post this week’s challenge for her. Of course I said yes!

Thankfully she had all the work done already 😉 Here is the sketch for the challenge (#204):

cas204_sketch

And here is my card for the challenge:

kth_thanks_kindflowers

I really love this Summer Silhouette stamp set and decided that the border image would make a great decorative edge (instead of scallops).

I knew I wanted a soft color palette. I was surprised when I chose Certainly Celery – it has been ages since I used that color (I always seem to use one of the other great SU greens). I’m also not much of pink person, so I used Coral instead. Unfortunately, this is going to someone who likes blue, and I managed not to get a single lick of blue in there! Oh well, hopefully I’ll be forgiven!

I hope you’ll join me – and the design team – and play along with this challenge!

Thanks for taking a peek!

so kind of you
