Owl Be Yours

This card started a few days ago for the PTI color challenge. I had chosen to use Lisa’s colors: Kraft, Poppy, Moss, Aqua. But I couldn’t get it to work, so I set it aside.

Then I decided to catch up on my normal weekly challenges – like the Clean & Simple challenge at SCS. This weeks is to use hearts (cas156).

When stamping the bough, I did not ink one of the sub-branches because I knew the owls would be sitting there. It is hard to see in the photo, but I used the wood grain impression plate on the card base.

Thanks for stopping by!

Stitched Thoughts

I created this card for PTI’s Day 6 festivities. I chose to use sketch 2 – and stuck exactly to it.

I chose to use the Stitches & Swirls set because it hadn’t seen ink yet. Also, it seemed to go with the stitched border in the sketch.

This card is for Operation Write Home, so I wanted this to be very mailable (flat).

Inspired Wish

Well, I missed yesterday’s PTI challenge (color challenges are not easy for me, not sure why). But I definitely had to join in today’s – it was all about Pinterest. I love Pinterest (read ‘I spend way too much time on Pinterest.’) 🙂

I recently pinned this little beauty. I found it through Pinterest, but it originally came from Minted.

I was really drawn to how the circles overlapped and their darker heart images.

To do my stamping, I inked up the circle and stamped it on scratch paper first and then stamped onto my project. The stars are fully inked when stamped.

I’m actually quite pleased with this card – I have a real hard time with one-layer cards and this one doesn’t feel lacking!

Pastel Posies

I created this card for the Paper Smooches Sparks challenge (view).

I drew my inspiration from the theme (flowers), colors, and techniques (pinking).

I used the tree from Gently Seasoned to be the foliage behind the flowers. The leaves aren’t quite as dark in person; they don’t match the celery, but they at least complement it better than in the photo.

The flowers are paper pieced.

Not What It Seems

This week’s Make-it-Monday challenge at PTI is about double-sided die-cuts.

Here is the front of my card:

And the inside:

All I can say about my card is that the idea popped right into my head while I was looking for a die to use in this challenge. Yes, turkey butt is part of my vocabulary (you have to get creative when you have kids).

I have no idea when I’ll ever use this card, but my girls are getting older, so maybe it will “keep” for the right occasion 🙂

The sentiment is printed on the computer (Barabara’s Hand, free? font).

Blue Ribbon

Today is day 2 of the PTI festivities. Nichole spotlighted the stamp designers – and each designer provided a free digital image! The challenge was to create a card using one of those free digi images. I chose to use Lizzie Jones’ award ribbon.

For this project, I wanted to paper piece the image. To start, I isolated the ribbon image and resized it larger. I put 4 of them on a piece of paper and printed it on regular paper. Then I cut pieces of carstock and pattern paper to cover a section of each image and printed it again. Finally, cut out and assemble.

For those of you who are visual, maybe this will help (click for larger view):

Oh, and one last detail, I did add a little Copic marker to the ribbon head to help give it a little shading.

PTI Favorites

It is anniversary time at Papertrey Ink! This is always an exciting week 🙂 Today stars the festivities and it is all about favorites. Each design team member selected their favorite project from the past year as well as a list of favorite products.

Nichole issued a challenge to make a card inspired by a design team member’s favorites. I chose Dawn McVey. I loved her list of favorites and she has such a great sense of color (something I aspire to).

I thought it might be fun to list my own PTI favorite supplies. Here is my must have list:

  • Fillable Frame Stamps & Dies (11, 4, & 1 specifically)
  • Select White card stock
  • Simply Chartreuse color
  • Birthday Basics stamp set (because I make TONS of birthday cards)
  • Wood Grain impression plate

Willow Wishes

I created this card for both the Waltzing Mouse sketch challenge (wmsc82) and the Clean & Simple challenge at SCS (cas155).

I admit, I had a hard time with this particular inspiration picture. In the end, I went with the colors and my own memory (we had wonderful willow trees near my childhood home which I loved to hide under).

Best Wishes
Stamps: Blessed by You, Fancy Phrases (WMS);
Colors: Not Quite Navy (ink & paper), Baja Breeze, Vanilla (SU);
Other: Petal Patch DSP (SU); Tag die (Spellbinders); button, twine, Leafy Vine die (PTI);

Tiled in Blue

I created this card for the For Your Information challenge (fyi23).

Even though the picture is full of modern lines, that isn’t what drew my attention. What I first noticed about the inspiration photo was the tiles along the outside wall of the building – and the colors: white & blue. Those two things together made me think of wedgewood.
