Inky Impressions 1st Design Team Call

kth_bday_fairywishes

Inky Impressions is putting together their first Design Team (details here). There are already so many awesome applicants! I love to color, so I am going to try too! Below are my cards for consideration.

First up is a new card, so I’ll give some details. The fairy set is one I got before I moved – from Inkadinkadoo. My girls love fairies and I couldn’t pass this one up – too cute! I watercolored with ink – my normal medium.

Since this is a fairy, I had to add some glitz! I used Twinkling H2Os on the wings for shimmer, and a little glitter here and there for sparkle. The pearl in her hair complements the pearl brad I used in the ribbon. Here is a close-up of the glitz – you can also click both images for larger views. The layout for the card is for Karen Giron’s sweet Sunday sketch (SSSC09). I love how bright and cheery this turned out!

My other card is one I posted a couple weeks ago (here). I chose this card because it is different in style and color from the above card.

I have other examples of coloring posted here on my blog, and in my gallery at Splitcoast.

Thank you for your consideration!

Watercolored Bloom

kth_friend_watercoloredbloom

This card turned out soooo much better than I thought it would! The challenge areas for this months’ PTI Guest Star Stamper were limited to scrapbook or project, use of Friends ‘Til the End, and use of a previous set. I didn’t bring any of my scrapping stuff with me to Hawaii (I figured space would be limited and I hadn’t scrapped in two years already, so what is another two) and projects are hard for me – I enjoy doing them, but I never have a reason to make them and I like making stuff for a purpose. I’ve already made a couple cards that I entered with previous stamp sets. That just left Friends ‘Til the End. Thankfully I ordered that one 😉

I know lots of people use this image (just like SU’s Fifth Avenue) to make those uber cool mod cards, and while I do want to try that myself, I wanted to watercolor this baby. I really love watercoloring. Have you ever watercolored with Palette inks before? It is hard! They dry on whatever surface you use (I normally squish my cube onto a plastic plate that I use) and they don’t take to water too well. But I’ve found if I work fast and try hard, I can do it.

The layout of this card is from Karen Giron’s sketch (SSSC08). I’ve been wanting to participate in her challenges, but this is the first one I’ve managed…and not I’m not really sure it “qualifies” as I didn’t do the layering in the background. I hope that I can go back and do her others too.

I didn’t take a picture of the inside, but I did stamp the same flower image with white pigment ink.

Glad We’re Friends

Black and White

kth_thanks_bwelegant

This card is for Kristina’s Color Inspiration (#45). I’ve been letting the color combo stew in my head all day. The inspiration for this card came as I was trying to put together other cards. I had to stop what I was doing and go after this one so I didn’t loose it!

I had the layout almost immediately and knew what I wanted in each section. My task then was to figure out what stamp image to use. I found a good combo of paper and image, but I didn’t have the right ribbon…so I searched some more. Once I got a little further in my index I found the right stamp set and then the right paper and the right ribbon – woohoo!

kth_thanks_bwelegant_inside

The card base is textured white cardstock, but you can’t tell in the photo. I actually had the card together before I decided to watercolor the image – it just needed that little bit. The ribbon is velvet ribbon I kept from a present a year or so ago.

The inside is simple – the image is from the same set and the paper is from the same pack – I like that it looks sorta like ribbon.

Thanks for all you do.
Stamps: Wonderful You (SU), Absolutely Fabulous (SU);

Sketch a Party

kth_bday_partybanner

This card was so fun to put together! I used Jen’s sketch (sfytt 3-7-09). I wanted to do something different for the top-most layer and that is how I ended up choosing to use PTI’s It’s a Celebration – that and I really want to try to use my PTI sets more! I tend to get them, make a card or two and forget them (cuz the next month’s release is here!) Actually, I do that with all my new stamps!

I like to use PTI colors when I stamp with PTI images, so I checked my paper stash and realized I hadn’t even opened my Polka Dot Parade pack! I liked the purple/green combo, so I went with that.

kth_bday_partybanner_inside

I had fun stamping the banner – that is such a fun image to play with! I popped a few layers and added some Glossy Accents (CE-like stuff) to the dots on the present. The final touch was the bow made with the PTI twill.

On the inside, I used the same paper, added a cupcake, and embellished with more CE dots. The dots are very subtle, but I wanted to keep the dot theme going without taking over the inside.

Birthday Garland

kth_bday_flowergarland

This card uses a CPS sketch (#106). Um, we could say that I rotated the sketch, but really, I just wasn’t paying attention and I stamped while the card was upside down *oops* Thankfully it looks good this way too 😀

I wanted a cheery card – as this is another birthday card. I enjoyed working with the new Melon Berry ink from Papertrey Ink the other day – it is such a rich color – so I had to pull it out again. This time I added some bright yellow and blue touches.

kth_bday_flowergarland_inside

This card was quick – just simple stamping! I even did the inside. I don’t normally stamp a sentiment on the inside – I prefer handwritten notes; but the sentiment on the front sorta felt incomplete without something on the inside as well.

Leafy Melon Four Square

kth_bday_springy4sq

I think there should be some application out there that creates post titles for us 🙂

This card is for two challenges. The layout came from CPS (#105) and the colors came from the PTI forum (#45). Those two elements took a lot of guesswork out of putting this together! I was excited to get my Melon Berry because I immediately thought it would look good with Stampin’Up’s Blush Blossom – and it does!! I used SU’s Certainly Celery to finish the four-square. It isn’t as good a match as the pinks, but it is good enough (and it certainly looks better IRL…since I moved I’ve been struggling with finding the perfect photo studio setup).

The button is from PTI’s vintage collection and I love that little bag! I’m just glad that color was in stock when I ordered. The New Leaf was out, but I have it on my wish list. I liked the holes from the button so I added piercing in the squares (I think I’ve done that so much lately that it came right to mind).

Happy Birthday

Spring Fresh

kth_support_overcomesuffering_butterfly

PaperCrafts has posted their March contest – butterflies! I’ve never done a PC challenge, but this was fun!

The first thing I did was to find a butterfly image – I figured that would be the most limited of my supplies. I haven’t used the On Gossamer Wings set in a long time, but I do find it very pretty. Next up, I needed a sentiment. I just received Motivational Centers and found the perfect sentiment! Putting the rest together was lots and lots of trial and error. A little bling was the final touch.

Thankfully I don’t need a “support” card, but they are hard to make when you need them, so this will be a good addition to my stash.

[No wonder I like this card – look how well it “goes” with my blog! LOL]

Parade of Bugs

kth_paradeofbugs

This card is for an upcoming InkUp stamp camp. Mom wanted a kid card, so I made a Parade of Bugs waterfall card. I used the SCS Tutorial for the waterfall technique. I think this turned out cute – I love how you can see each of the buggys’ faces!

Bugs and Kisses

Paper: Kiwi Kiss, Pacific Point, Tangerine Tango, Whisper White;
Other: gingham ribbon, black brads, glitter, dimensionals;

Simply Hoppy

kth_bday_simplyhoppy

This card was created for the Clean & Simple challenge at SCS (CAS04). The challenge was to accent with dots – pierced or markered. I’ve always wanted to do a card like this – with piercings delineating the “focal area”. Unfrogettable is one of my favorite sets and since I haven’t used it in awhile, I thought he would be a cute addition to the card.

Happy Birthday
All Stampin’Up! unless otherwise noted.
Stamps: Unfrogettable, Happy Everything;
Ink: Glorious Green, Garden Green, Yoyo Yellow;
Paper: White (PTI);
Other: piercer;

Flourished Rose

kth_celebrate_flourishedrose

PageMaps came out with another set of card maps this month! A sketch from pagemaps and a color scheme from SCS Color Challenge and this card was practically done for me 😉 I do think I am falling in love with Kiwi – I need to get me some Kiwi pattern paper!

I had a lot of fun putting this card together – more watercoloring and a new tool – who wouldn’t have fun? The flourishes were created using the Making Memories Slice (thank you again Gail!!). I can see this becoming a dangerous tool for me!

kth_celebrate_flourishedrose_inside

The background of the card front was done with the Floral background stamp and craft (pigment) ink. The ink lightens when it is heat set, so you can actually see the pink color. I really like how that part turned out.

The inside of the card was easy – no stamping; just another strip of pattern paper and a pink flourish.
