Sweet Cards

I made it to round 3 of the SCS CAS challenge DT try-outs! The final challenge was an inspiration challenge. The image was of lots of Christmas candy, but the top left corner photo is what inspired me most. It had sugar-covered, sherbet-colored trees and gumdrops in white containers.

I actually made a couple cards – but I’ll start with the one I did enter. I started the card with the rainbow to capture those sherbet colors. I ended up doing each color separately – coloring the stripe I wanted using markers (this was easier than I thought it would be!!). I created my own candy lollipop (complete with sugar aka glitter) using a stamp from the Teeny Trees set by Waltzing Mouse. Even though the sentiment leaves it open, this will make a great birthday card!

This is first card I made for the challenge. I love it, but I wasn’t sure it was CAS enough for the competition. Again, I emulated the sugar trees. I thought about doing a rainbow tree, but decided one color would be enough. I decided on the green background because of the wall color in the photo. The tree stand is embossed so you have the same white on white as the containers in the photo.

Since I’ve decided not to make this a challenge card, I may go back and add a topper to the tree – maybe a little yellow star.

Silver Bells

It is the 25th of the month – that means PTI Blog Hop time! Like last month, PTI selected an inspiration photo as the challenge. This month’s photo is a very pretty scene of Christmas decorated home.

I was inspired by the wood and white colored stairs, the silver bucket, the big red bow, and the hanging skates. All those items went into creating my card.

I pulled out my much loved Bells & Boughs set to emulate the hanging skates. I embossed the large bells with silver powder.

The background was stamped with lots of Christmas greetings (the current Make-It-Monday technique).

Star Teacher

My oldest kiddo has a wonderful teacher this year – someone who really looks out for the kid’s best interests. This past week was the end of a semester and I wanted to do something special for the teacher.

Our school is a PBIS school – where they focus on positive behavior. One of the elements is filling a person’s bucket with positive thoughts. The aforementioned teacher once mentioned to me she’d love for someone to fill her bucket with chocolate 😀 So naturally I needed to give her a chocolate filled bucket!

I found this awesome bucket in the Target dollar spot. Since it tapers, I could not figure out how to wrap paper around the bucket, so I just decorated it with die cut stars. I embossed the large star with the sentiment.

Of course I needed to add a card. I used more die cut stars. I recently purchased some good real sewing pinking shears. I used them to cut the mat. The main panel is old scrapbook paper that I have no idea where it came from. I stitched the two together. The sentiment is stamped on vellum. The final touch was spritzing the card base with Shimmerz.

Penguin Party

I created this card for the heck of it. The idea to put a party hat on the penguin came to me when I was trying to come up with a winter themed card (that I posted yesterday). It took 5 stamp sets to make this simple card! But I’m so happy they all worked so well together!

As I’ve said many times before, layout is not my strong point, so for this card I used a technique that Maile has used a lot recently (check out the last card in her post).

Hot Cocoa

This week’s CAS challenge at SCS was to use a Christmas/winter theme. As always, I’m making birthday cards. I liked this sentiment because it was vague enough that I could use for any reason – and the image is definitely winter!

I really wanted to do something to the background, but everything I though about was too much. I think I need to get some textured kraft cardstock (I wonder if SU’s crumb cake textured cardstock still has the flecks in it?).

Bright Presents

I made it to the next round in the CAS winter DT search! The next challenge was to create a card with one or more presents on it (and thankfully it didn’t have to be holiday themed).

I just received my PTI box today and inside was my Take Three die – one I’ve been wanting for a while now. I decided to put it to use right away. I stamped the presents onto the colored cardstock and embossed with white. I taped the presents behind the die openings. Then I stamped the greeting and adhered the panel to the card base with foam tape. The final touch was a few color coordinated rhinestones.

Bouquet of Balloons

Jen, the hostess of the CAS challenge on SCS, is looking for the winter design team. I’ve tried out a few times before, but I thought I’d give it another go. The first challenge is to create a card using pattern paper and ribbon.

I know this isn’t all that unique, but it is clean and simple, lol. I don’t use a lot of pattern paper, so this was quite a stretch for me.

This is the first time I’ve used these balloon dies from Taylored Expressions. I must say I am in love! They come with these clear placement pieces that make getting what you want so easy.

Happy Birthday
Stamps: Fillable Frame 1 (PTI);
Paper: Rose Red, Bashful Blue, Cutie Pie DSP (SU);
Ink: Black (PTI);
Other: Balloon dies (TE); twine, ribbon (SU);

Vintage Aviary

I created this card for Chupa’s Saturday Sketch Challenge. This week’s sketch (ssc38) was a simple one (I love her challenges because they stretch my typical CAS style, but a simple one now and again is a good thing, lol!).

I finally got to use my text flower accent that has been on my desk for months – I created it for the first CAS-ual Friday challenge, but never got a card done for it. This still feels out of my comfort zone, but I do like the final card.

Happy Birthday
Stamps: Aviary (SU), Birthday Basics (PTI);
Colors: Melon, Black, Vanilla (SU);
Other: Black lace (?), Edger die (PTI); First Edition & Newspaper DSPs (SU); special brad (?); flower dies (PTI);

New Challenge

I found a new challenge site: For Your Inspiration. It is a photo inspiration challenge. This week’s challenge is a beautiful sunrise/set photo (fyi18).

I paired that inspiration with the sketch challenge from Waltzing Mouse (wmsc74).

From the FYI challenge, I was inspired by the sunrays. I would have used a red hue in the card, but that just felt a bit to empire-rising-ish.

Birthday Wishes
Stamps: Asian Gardens (WMS); Timeless Tags (The Cat’s Meow);
Ink: Olive (SU); brown (Palette); Baja (SU);
Paper: Chocolate, White, Spring Moss (PTI); Baja (SU);
Other: Grommet Tag die (SB); Silk ribbon (PTI);

Bright Cupcake

I created this card for the CAS challenge at SCS (cas144). The challenge was a theme challenge – “party”. I always need birthday cards, so I jumped on this challenge!

The cupcake is paper pieced. The candle is from the sentiment set, but seemed well proportioned for this. The layout came after much contemplation. I hardly ever use twine and this seemed like a perfect time.
