Have a Lovely Day

kth_lovelyday-greensprouts

Today I’m playing along with the CASology: Sprout challenge.

CASologyBadge

I went for new baby leaves as my sprout. Green is my favorite color, so I used a few different shades to make a fresh-feeling monochromatic card.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Make a Wish

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Make a Wish | by karen @ carefree creations

Man, I have been on a roll with one-layer cards this week. Normally I find them daunting, but these past few ones have just kinda created themselves.

I know you may be wondering where the orange and yellow from the color combo are – they are the flame. The candle is stamped in two parts – the outline and the pattern fill. When I stamped the the outline, I inked the wick & flame piece with orange. Then, when stamping the flame, I first stamped in yellow and then went back and did a partial inking of the flame image with orange. Of course then I added a tiny bit of stickles, so it is pretty hard to see…but those colors are there!

After stamping the images and the “make a wish” sentiment, I was going to call it done, but it didn’t feel completed – I think because I had offset it, but probably a little too much so it just felt off center. I decided a line or something from the image to the card edge would solve the problem, but I didn’t like the feel of such a solid thing as a line. I did think about bling or a line of dots, but I thought a secondary sentiment would be perfect.

The secondary sentiment had to be pieced together. There is no “on” in the set, so I had to make it with selective inking of an “o” and “n”. The “your” and “day” are part of the same sentiment, but there was an extra word in the middle that I didn’t have room for; so that required selective inking too. It isn’t very straight, but it works.

I hope you join us at CAS Colours & Sketches!

As You Wish

This card is for the One Layer Simplicity Challenge and the Less is More Challenge

I knew when I saw the theme for the Simplicity challenge that I would use “as you wish” and make a heart card. How can you not? When figuring out the colors, I thought the Less is More – white space but not white – would be a perfect fit.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Rest Relax Recover

Rest Relax Recover | by karen @ carefree creations

I was inspired to stamp last night. I used the CAS(e) This Sketch challenge as my starting point. I did flip it to work with my image better.
CASeThisSketchBadge

This stamp set has been on my wish list for a while and since I don’t have anything else like it, I thought I pick it up before it was retired.

I wish I had picked a different sentiment – between the bold colors and the speed waves behind the van, it seems opposite to rest.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Birthday Banner

I created this card for the Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

To stamp the giraffe, I had to bend the image and stamp it in two sections. It actually turned out very well, even though I ended up covering up where the two sections meet.

Hey Chick

I neglected chores this weekend so I could stamp. This card is for the CASology: Washi challenge.

I don’t normally use washi tape (though, I have plenty of choices in my stash, sigh). I went with a fairly obvious use of the tape. I do like the mostly white chicken – it pops against the kraft.

Get My Ducks in a Row

So the Snarky Sisters Challenge is having a design team call. I thought I’d throw my hat in – I’ve been enjoying letting my humor out in my cards.

This card started with a post I found on Pinterest.

I used a flat acrylic stamp to make my mirror image duck (the orange one).

I made this card last night for the Less is More: Polka Dots challenge.

This flower image is an from an old set, but one I love and haven’t used in forever. I wanted a bright, bold color scheme because this is an upbeat sentiment.

Pocketful of Sunshine

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

CC&S_2016-03-31_#167

And here is my take:

Pocketful of Sunshine | by karen @ carefree creations

Double challenges are always very hard for me. I had some ideas for this combo, but my stamps didn’t want to cooperate (they didn’t fit the sketch like I thought they might). I was pleasantly surprised when this pocket image fit so nicely (I thought it would be too small).

The sun image is empty in the middle – and the set did not include a circle stamp to fill it in. I really needed the sun to have more weight on the card, so I pulled out another set which included a polka dot circle that fit quite nicely. I thought the polka dots went well with the pattern paper I had already picked out. It was hard to line up the inner circle inside the already stamped sun, but thankfully the bad spacing is hidden by the pocket!

Speaking of the pocket, that is all Pacific Point ink – I did a second-generation impression for the solid pocket and then over-stamped, full strength, with the stitch lines. I think the set has a die for the pocket, but I forgot that when I stamped it, so I had to cut it out by hand (thankfully, since it is all straight lines, it wasn’t fussy).

I hope you join us at CAS Colours & Sketches!
