Peace, Love & Joy

PTI_BlogHopLogo

Today is PTI’s November Blog Hop. This was the inspiration:

2015-11_PTIBlogHop-InspPic

What I love about the inspiration is the clean style and the pops of color and silver.

And this is my card:

Peace Love Joy | karen @ carefree creations

Parts of the sentiment are silver embossed. The card base is dry embossed with stripes. I added a silver paint between the stripes.

Sweet Candy Motif

Candy Motif | by karen @ carefree creations

Today I played along with Papertrey’s Make it Monday – Motif Building challenge.

I had fun piecing the bits together! I know it may be hard to see my motif at first, since it takes up the entire panel, but there is a pattern there.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Playful Whirlygigs

Whirlygigs | by karen @ carefree creations

This card is for the CAS(e) This Sketch #149 challenge.

CASeThisSketchBadge

I used the same technique on this card as the one I posted earlier. I stamped the images and clear embossed them. Next was sponging with distress inks. Last, use an iron to remove the embossing.

This card came together in an interesting way. I created the focal panel using bright inks…but somewhere along the way a few dark dots appeared (I assume I just wasn’t careful while making the previously posted card). So I decided to add a few more splatter bits in a blue/green/grey color. I also knew that I wanted to extend the line of the sentiment, so I had to pick a color for which I had a marker. Although the splatter I added is a bit brighter than the mistake dots, I think you can’t tell unless you can get close and really look at it. And looking at the image online you can barely see the splatter anyway!

For the sentiment, I selectively inked the word and right swoop, but not the left swoop. Then I used a marker to continue the left swoop all the way to the edge of the panel.

I chose the linear pattern for the background because I’ve read that curves love lines (I think it is Susan Rahaila that says it).

The final size for this card is 5 1/2 x 3 3/4.

Fern Resist

Fern | by karen @ carefree creations

This card is for the CAS(e) This Sketch #149 challenge.

CASeThisSketchBadge

I wanted to keep close to the sketch by using a resist technique for the image. I clear embossed the image, watercolored the background, and then used an iron to remove the embossing.

I seem to be a bit heavy-handed with the inking – I didn’t intend to color so much of the background.

Deck the Halls

Ice Skate | by karen @ carefree creations

This card is for the SCS-Inspiration #374 challenge which was a Christmas Pinterest board challenge, where I selected this pin and basically recreated it.

I had to use my foil again – I mean, it is a skate blade and those aren’t white! It is such an insignificant detail, but I love it!

I also added a little tag for the CAS on Sunday Tag It Challenge.

Grandma’s House

Swing | by karen @ carefree creations

I’m squeaking this card in for a CAS challenge on SCS. I also used the current Fab Friday #77 color challenge.

The SCS-CAS challenge was to make a card that reminds you of grandma’s house. For me that is the swing she had on her porch. I used markers and blender pens to color this image.

Shiny & Bright

Shiny Wreath | by karen @ carefree creations

This card is for the CASual Friday #145: Precious Metals challenge.

CASualFridayBadge

The challenge was to use metallics – and foil was listed as an option. I definitely wanted to play with my foils again! This time – lots and lots of colors. I thought this funky wreath was perfect because it had lots of openings for lots of color.

This took many passes through the laminator. I used a toner pen to make a few dots, laid 1 color of foil down, and sent it through the laminator. Repeat 5 more times. I used pink, purple, blue, turquoise, silver, and gold.

This bold & bright card makes me happy – not sure I’ll be able to send it away!

Foiled Ornaments

Foiled Ornaments | by karen @ carefree creations

I made this card for the Freshly Made Sketches #212 challenge.

I’ve been bit by the foil bug. I recently bought a toner pen, foil sheets, and a cheap laminator. I wanted to stamp using the toner pen (a la Jennifer McGuire), but that didn’t work. I’m not sure if it was because I was doing a more detailed stamp than just a heart, or because I was trying to stamp onto foil paper. So instead I hand-drew some designs on the foil paper ornaments. Next time I’ll have to see if I can get my glue pad to work.

Blessings For Which We Give Thanks

I’m playing along with two challenges. The One-Layer Simplicity: Gratitude challenge and the CASology: Give challenge.

Thanksgiving | karen h @ carefree creations

I thought this sentiment was perfect for both challenges. The original sentiment stamp has the word thanksgiving in the same font as the other words (with “our” being on the same line as well). I wanted the word thanksgiving to stand out, so I cut apart the original sentiment, and stamped it with space for a larger, scripty word.

To give the foliage images some depth, I stamped them and then, without re-inking, stamped them again a little offset for a shadow effect. It looks good in person, but on screen it just looks blurry…ugh!

Outta This World

Stamping for fun. I know I already posted today, but this one is for challenges which end tomorrow.

Outta This World | karen @ carefree creations

This card is for both CASology – Vehicle and CAS(e) This Sketch #148.

CASologyBadge CASeThisSketchBadge

I wanted to do something a bit different for “vehicle” – and while browsing my index, I immediately stopped at this rocket ship!

The sentiment is hand-written.
