Joy

Christmas Joy | by karen @ carefree creations

This card is for the Addicted to CAS: Joy challenge.

Another very simple card. The joy is die cut from foil once and from the base color a couple times to add dimension.

No Peeking

No Peeking | by karen @ carefree creations

This card is for two challenges: Snarky Stampers: Naughty Christmas and CAS Colours & Sketches #153.

It took me awhile to come up with a snarky Christmas card, but seeing as I’m pretty infamous in my family for peeking, I thought this would be a funny card.

The “that means you” sentiment is pieced together from several sentiments in a birthday set. I just used a marker to ink the words I wanted.

For the CAS Colours & Sketches challenge, you are to pick a past color scheme and make a Christmas card. I went all the way back to the beginning with the first color challenge: #2 – garden green, lucky limeade, and real red.

Apple Core

Apple Core | by karen @ carefree creations

I’m playing along with the Less is More: Fruit challenge. Very simple card, with lots of white space.

Since the sentiment is so long, I had to cut it in pieces to get it to stamp in a curve.

Humble Pie

Today I’m playing along with the CASology: Pie challenge. When I was trying to decide what to use, I thought through a bunch of phrases with pie and came up with humble pie.

Granted my card isn’t very humble, but it is where I started:

I wasn’t sure what to stamp with the sentiment I chose, so I found another challenge: Paper Smooches: Flowers.

Autumn Anniversary

Addicted to CAS is having an anniversary – and a design team call. This challenge’s code word is: Dimension.

Here is my card:

Celebration Mums | karen @ carefree creations

My dimension is from the flowers that are popped-up.

Since November is their anniversary month, I wanted a celebration card that was fall colored. I started by finding my pattern paper – which was a lot harder than expected considering my stash! I knew I wanted an organic pattern (i.e., not geometric) and lots of color (no large white spaces) – so that the letters would pop against it.

Just Because

Just Because | karen @ carefree creations

I’m playing along with CAS Colours & Sketches #152 (this week is a sketch challenge).

I admit, I was stumped at first! Thankfully, while perusing my digital index, I saw these half-flowers and knew they would be perfect! It is snowing here, so I wanted something bright and pretty – hence my color selection.

Age is Just a Number

This card is for two challenges. The PTI Make-it-Monday: Stamp on Kraft challenge as well as the Less is More: Number theme challenge.

I used my MISTI to stamp the candles in white and then the colors. I added some stickles as flame, I think it adds a nice detail to an otherwise simple card.

Life Needs Background Music

I’m playing along again at Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers. This week’s challenge is music.

It took me a long time to find something, but the internet helped!

Life Needs Background Music | karen @ carefree creations

When I couldn’t come up with my own idea, I searched the internet and found a quote similar to this and knew it would be perfect (I have a two teenage kids, and while we’ve never said these words, the sentiment is there!).

I’ve said before I prefer to make cards that I can use – even when I’m playing a snarky challenge (thankfully my family is fully aware, and mostly appreciative, of my sarcastic/snarky personality).

The tape frame was inspired by this awesome card by Jenny.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving Blessing | karen @ carefree creations

Yesterday I sat down to make thanksgiving cards for my girls. I decided to use this adorable turkey image. And since the latest Paper Smooches Challenge is Gold, I foiled the tail feathers (as well as the band around the hat).

In addition, the layout is from the Fresh Made Sketches #214 challenge.

My final card is 4″ wide.

Sending Holiday Cheer

I’m squeezing in a card for the CAS Colours & Sketches challenge which is also a design team call! This week is a color challenge:

c&sc151

Here is the card I came up with:

Warm Holiday Cheer | karen @ carefree creations

I had fun with this one! I used the smoosh technique for my watercolor background. The hat and gloves use generational stamping. The sentiment is silver embossed. I used grey as my neutral color (to evoke the silver color).

I have to love on my MISTI again. This color challenge is one where you can only use the colors asked for (equivalents accepted, but no additional colors – like I could not add a yellow to this, even in a small amount). So to get some contrast, I like to employ the generational stamping technique. Sometimes you don’t get a good impression in the generations. This is where MISTI came in. I placed my stamps on the MISTI, stamped onto scrap, then stamped on my good paper. And yes, not the best impression….so I just did it all again – ink, stamp on scrap, stamp on good paper! So happy! Both the hat and the gloves are just 2 layers of generational, but the hat ended up a bit darker. I’m ok with it 🙂
