PTI Blog Hop – Holiday Thanks

PTI_BlogHopLogo

Today is PTI’s December Blog Hop. Here is the inspiration photo:

And here is my card:

What caught me first, in the inspiration image, was the wreath like placement of the leaves on the top and bottom plates. I started with that and went off from there.

Thanks to the Delivery Folks

I know I should “buy local”, but there is nothing I cringe more at than shopping at Christmas time – just too many people! I do 90% of my shopping online, so I like to leave little gift bags for those folks who deliver the packages (I can’t image what a hectic job that is at this time of year!). This is something I did last year but neglected to take a photo of the gift (at least this year I remembered to snap a photo of the panel).

Here is the panel I put in the bag (I write a note on the back):

For those that are interested, in the package is a lip balm, travel-size hand lotion, travel package of tissues, a couple chocolates, and a $5 gift card to Starbucks.

Frosty Season

Red & Green Snowflakes | by karen @ carefree creations

I squeezed in 3 challenges for this card: CAS Colours & Sketches #154, CASual Fridays: Snowflakes, and Simon Says Stamp – Monday: Holly Jolly Stamping

For the CC&S challenge we were to pick an old sketch and make it Christmasy. I chose CCS#31. I know snowflakes aren’t typically stamped in red and green, but I really am happy with how this turned out. I used my favorite Christmas color scheme: bright red & green with a pop of yellow. And bonus – this is a one-layer card!

Playing along with the CASology: Tree challenge.

I knew the layout I wanted to do for this card and I didn’t want a white card base, so I found a light mint green, which I thought was a fun Christmas alternative.

Peace and Beauty

Peace & Beauty | by karen @ carefree creations

This card is for the Freshly Made Sketches #216 challenge.

I’m thinking the splatters keep it from being “clean” – a requirement for this challenge. But I like the added texture. And those splatters – dang gravity! I had this card sitting up on a shelf to dry and it fell down. Thankfully face-up, but a couple of the juicier spots now have a comet tail…oh well.

This was an ultra quick card for me – I think it took 10 minutes from conception to completion. I stamped the pine image on the card base and the sentiment on the Chalk Talk tag. Added some splatters to the card base; popped the tag up with dimensionals, and added a couple of Sharpie-colored rhinestones. Done!

Merry Bungalows

Merry Bungalows | by karen @ carefree creations

Loved the latest sketch at RetroSketches #193.

RetroSketchesBadge

I kept to the sketch fairly faithfully, even making my card a square – something I don’t normally do.

The little button is die cut from wood veneer paper.

One final touch was a bit of glue & glitter along the roofs of the bungalows.

Travel Destination

Today I’m playing along with the Less is More: Blue & Green challenge.

Travel Destination | by karen @ carefree creations

So many beautiful Christmas cards have been created for this challenge, but I just couldn’t get in the spirit. I thought about blue and green for a bit and decided “earth” would be my inspiration.

I started with watercolor paper and distress inks. Then I added a bit of text and finished up with an earth stamp.

Happy New Year

This card is for Fab Friday #78 – sketch challenge.

New Year | by karen @ carefree creations

I know my card doesn’t look very much like the sketch, but that is what I was working from!

This card will accompany a gift that is NOT a Christmas gift (because buying a Christmas gift for this person is violating agreed upon rules that have been in place for years 😉 .

Celebrate Your Many Talents

I played along with the CAS(e) This Sketch #151 challenge.

You are Amazing | by karen @ carefree creations

It took me a while to figure out what to stamp – and how to keep it simple! The idea behind the card is celebrating someone who has many talents – i.e., wears many hats.

I stamped the hats in a medium gray but needed them to fade into the background – so I used lots of red (so that this card could go to a man or a woman).

This card is for the Freshly Made Sketches #215.

I was a little stumped with this sketch, but as I scanned my supply index, this design came to me.

The cloud die normally just cuts the top and leaves the bottom along, but I cut along the embossed lines to make a cloud bank.
