CASology – Frozen

It is time for a new CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – FROZEN!

Here is my take:

Keep Warm | by karen h @ carefree creations

My fiber is from ScrapGoods. Does anyone remember them? I used to be a subscriber ages ago – in fact the fiber is dated in 2003! (I am a very good hoarder!)

I wrapped the fiber around a panel to emulate a scarf. I like the little pop of color.

CASology – Glass

It is time for a new CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – GLASS!

Here is my take:

Rainbow Chemistry | by karen h @ carefree creations

This week’s challenge is glass. Lots of ideas, but the chemistry stamp set is what held my eye. The sentiment lead to the stamping composition.

The heart is done with chalk to give it the soft foggy look of steam.

I originally was going to make this a one layer card with the stamping smack dab in the middle, but for some reason the paper I chose (which is heavier than my normal fare) bled the outline ink and it didn’t look right. So instead I pulled out my trusty Papertrey white and figured I’d have to die cut it somehow (because PTI paper can’t handle Copics without bleeding). Once I had the image colored, I had to decide the layout of the card. I don’t normally do circles because I find them hard to work with. I wanted to challenge myself, so that is what I used to die cut the scene. I did die cut it a little off center so I could have it off the card edge. I used a pink cardstock panel to help draw the eye to the image (the edge of the pink panel is centered behind the heart/images/sentiment).

Happy with this card, but: (1) wish I could have blended the right-hand beaker contents better (the left one seems so seemless); (2) I think I should have embossed the pink panel with texture (things you see behind the camera after you’re done, sigh).

You Color My World

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

You Color My World | by karen @ carefree creations

I really wasn’t sure what I was going to do for this sketch, but as I was flipping through my supply index, I saw the jar and the idea came together.

The jar outline is clear embossed on black card stock and then cut out using the coordinating die. The words are white embossed on the jar die cut.

I used watercolors to do the rainbow (I was going to use Distress inks, but I remembered that those would blend and I didn’t want that).

A Little About the Challenge: This weekly challenge is posted on Tuesday, and alternates between color and sketch (if there is a 5th week in the month you get the double dose of color & sketch).

How the Heifer Are You?

It is time for another CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – FARM!

Here is my take:

How the Heifer Are You? | by karen h @ carefree creations

I wish I could take credit for this pun, but I cannot. But as soon as I heard it I knew I wanted to use it!

To do the sentiment, I pieced together words from other sentiments and used alphabet sets to create “heifer”. I fussy cut the speech bubble and the cow out and popped them up over the gingham.

These bright colors had me thinking summer. I love fruit salad during summer, so that is where my mind went. I used distress ink to watercolor the images.

You’re Spec-tacular

And here is my take:

You're Spec-tacular | by karen h @ carefree creations

Super fast card! Seriously, done in under 5 minutes!

I picked two of the glasses images from the set and assigned them a color. I knew I wanted the cats-eyes to be pink and to be stamped more frequently then the other pair. I stamped the top, the bottom, and then then middle with the cats-eye pair, then went back and layered the other pair in between.

While the sentiment strip isn’t quite in the sweet spot, I wanted it to be in between the pairs of glasses. So it looks good to me, even if not perfect.

Congrats on Your New Home

This card is for the latest Library challenge – Watership Down. I read this book ages and ages ago and only remember being very sad while reading it. I did refresh my memory by reading a synopsis – and from that decided my card would be a “new home” card (the only bunny stamps I own are of the chocolate variety, lol).

Congrats on your New Home | by karen @ carefree creations

I put my card together first with layers of cardstock but it was way to plain. I replaced a couple layers and the home with pattern paper…much better!

Thanks for taking a peek!

You Rock My World

The last card I will post from my February 2016 Splitcoast Dirty Dozen time. Each DD month has a theme; if you are a member of the Fan Club, you can view more details about this card and its relation to the challenge here.

Rock My World | by karen h @ carefree creations

The jukebox is gold embossed and colored with Copics. To help ground the jukebox, I used distress ink with a stencil to create “a floor”. I love those tiny little music notes!

The sentiment is done with partial inking to mix and match a couple bits.

You & Me Together

It is time for another CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – Together!

Here is my take:

You & Me Together | by karen @ carefree creations

Well, with Valentine’s Day here I had to make a sappy card 🙂

To make the pink layer, I did partial die cutting with a large circle die. I added faux stitching with a marker.

The pea image is 3 layers. First I stamped the outline on the pink layer – so I wouldn’t have to cut out the curlie-cue. Then I stamped the image on pattern paper, cut it out and adhered to the pink layer. Finally, the peas are stamped on card stock, cut out, and adhered to the pattern paper. I layered it this way because they are the most important piece so they should be on top.
