Taste the Rainbow

I HAD to play in the current Addicted to CAS challenge; it’s my favorite color: RAINBOW!!

by Karen @ carefree creations - Drink Rainbow

Most of the drinks are double inked – I completely inked the image with a light color, then, using a marker, added a darker color to the bottom of the drink bowls (but not the champagne or appletini). See the supply list for the colors I used.

I trimmed the card’s length to be the same as the die cut and added pattern paper to the bottom portion.

To decorate the edges of the die cut, I inked up the short end of an image from Four Frames and topped them off with rhinestones.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Take Care

by Karen @ carefree creations - Take Care

I created this card for the CASology challenge – Care

When I saw the cue card for the challenge, I knew I would do a “thinking of you” type card. I wanted to use soft soothing colors. I pulled out an old favorite – Sage Shadow and paired it with a soon-to-retire favorite – Baja Breeze. I chose purple because it supported the feeling I was going for.

Banner Birthday

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge -> #21 – colors.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #21

And here is my take:

by Karen @ Carefree Creations: Birthday Banner

I wasn’t sure what to do at first, but I knew I liked the color combination. So, as I do when I’m stumped, I went to my index. When I spotted my Hearts a Flutter set, I knew I had the card.

The stripped banner pieces are taped onto the card base, but only along the top edge – and the bottom bits are “fluffed” to add dimension. (“Fluffed” just means curling the edges without bending the card stock.) The wave-pattern banner pieces are adhered with dimensionals. I glued the twine in place.

My card base is a regular A2 size, so this will need to be hand-delivered or mailed in a larger envelope to accommodate those overhanging banner pieces.

Coral Butterfly

by Karen @ Carefree Creations - Coral Butterfly

I combined a couple challenges to create this card.

The layout comes from the Freshly Made Sketch #80 challenge. The colors are from the ColourQ #183 challenge.

To create the card, I first made a mask for the oval. I embossed the oval onto lightweight printer paper and closely trimmed it out. I temporarily adhered it to my Vanilla panel and stamped the flourish with Calypso Coral. Then I went back and did the actual embossing of the oval frame.

The butterfly is Calypso Coral ink on Blushing Bride paper.

To color the Pearls, I used a yellow Sharpie marker.

ETA – To get the embossed oval without the folder edge causes creases, I flip BOTH tabs of my BigShot platform up.

Whew, that is 3 cards in one day. And I think that seems to be my limit – I always seem to hit a wall after 3 cards. Hopefully I’ll have time to stamp during the week – there are just too many good challenges out there!

Owl Be Thinking of You

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge -> #19 – colors.

CAS Colours & Sketches - Challenge 19

And here is my take:

by Karen @ Carefree Creations - Owl Be Thinking of You

I thought I’d have some fun with these colors. I pulled out the adorable Aviary set to use.

I chose to use the blue for my base because it is light and the other colors would pop around it.

I used the cage stand to create a bar for the birds.

Design Point: Despite using a Stamp-a-ma-Jig, the bar is crooked and the extra finial is just a smidge not connected. Thankfully it isn’t obvious. I didn’t try to connect them with a marker because I thought it would draw attention to the gaff. Sometimes it is better to just let the mistake stand, most folks won’t even see it.

I’ll send this card to Mom for her inspiration wall.

CAS Colours & Sketches #18

And here is my take:

by Karen @ Carefree Creations - Birthday by the Seashore

This is such an easy sketch that I know I will use it over and over (heck, I posted a card last weekend that used the sketch – you had a preview and didn’t know it, hee hee).

My colors were very much inspired by last week’s color challenge – but I went with Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, and Riding Hood Red.

For those of you who know my mom – this card will be in the April camp.

Happiest Thoughts

When I first saw the latest Freshly Made Sketch (FMS78), my mind immediately went to Field Flowers.

by Karen @ Carefree Creations - Happiest Thoughts

I didn’t want to make the flower pink, and I had done purple before, so this time I did yellow. That drove my other color choices. I do believe I’ll miss this year’s SU colors – Indigo is such a beautiful blue and Limeade is a perfect green.

I used a marker to selectively ink the stem so I only had one.

For the scallops along the top, I used the Lace tape from the Spring Mini catalog.

I’ll be sending this card to my mom for her inspiration shelf.

Stamp Free

The latest CAS-ual Friday challenge (#95) is to make a card but NOT use stamps. What?!?

by Karen @ Carefree Creations - Party Pieces Birthday

OK, that was actually easier than I thought. Since I signed-up for the Online Card Class Pattern Play (I say “signed-up” and not “participated” because I am just now getting around to watching the lessons – this week was just too crazy at school!)…um what was I saying – oh yes, pattern paper. I figured I could use pattern paper to make a card without stamps.

In my pattern paper stash are old Stampin’ Up scrapbook kits – complete with pre-printed accents! This card was so quick and easy. I didn’t have to come up with a color scheme – the kit took care of that for me! To bring all my colors together, I took a strip of stripe pattern paper (included in the kit) and used it like I learned in the Pattern Play class.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Happy Birthday

Framed Hello

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge -> #17 – colors.

CAS Colours & Sketches #17

And here is my take:

by Karen @ Carefree Creations - Framed Hello

Seeing this color combo, I really wanted just a pop of the red. So I did my card using the neutrals and then added two little red rhinestones (yes red, I know they look orange in the photo).

I really love that frame!
