Razzle Roses

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge -> #15 – colors.

CAS#15

And here is my take:

by Karen @ Carefree Creations - Razzled Roses

I went easy-peasy for my card. If you give me pink and green – my instinct is to stamp flowers! My flowers are Pink & Razzleberry; my leaves are Pear – the bottom layer stamped off and the top layer full-strength.

I used the oval Designer Frame embossing folder to help anchor the flowers and sentiment on my panel. I used dimensionals to adhere the panel to my card base – which is textured card stock.

I really wish I had an embossing folder that would give plain card stock the textured look – sometimes that subtle texture is the perfect final touch. If anyone knows of such a product – please let me know!!

Useless fact: my Stamp-a-ma-jig is Razzleberry colored 🙂

Shamrock Shower

March will be here before you know it (who decided February should be so short??). That means I need to get working on my cards for the InkUp stamp camp. This one is easy, but fun!

by Karen @ Carefree Creations - Shamrock Shower

I chose to use this little image because sometimes the little images are the hardest to use. I thought this was a good technique to share.

Another bad photo, sorry! BUT – good news: I finally got a replacement light bulb which means now I actually feel like crafting! (My kiddo wanted to know why I didn’t craft and take photos later – that yellow light was just too depressing…maybe if it wasn’t winter too, lol.) Oh, and another thought – GE Reveal, despite saying it is bright white, is NOT! I had to go to Lowes to find a true white light.

Birthday Butterflies

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge -> #13 – colours.

CAS Colours & Sketch - Challenge #13

And here is my take:

by Karen @ Carefree Creations - Birthday Butterflies

I love Sahara Sand – it is such an awesome neutral. I took advantage of that by using it to stamp my background. The butterflies are inked with both Starfruit & Tangerine and then misted to help the colors blend.

The ribbon, which matches Sahara Sand perfectly is from my stash (no idea where it originally came from) – and I only have about 1 more use left – ack!

And here is my take:

by Karen @ Carefree Creations: Purple Floral

I used the large floral image from Elements of Style and stamped it all over the background panel. Then just added a bit of ribbon and a frame for the sentiment.

Totally Tool Birthday

kth_bday_tools&wood

My brother-in-law’s birthday is coming up in a week, so I needed a masculine card. When he isn’t at one of his children’s many baseball games, he’s usually building something – so I got out my Totally Tool set.

Next up, for me, is determining layout. I turned to the latest Retro Sketch (rs47).

The tool images were stamped, colored (with Copics), and then cut out.

I didn’t have a birthday greeting that worked in the space, so I used a font instead. I did print it with a brown fill but it wasn’t right and instead of spending all night tweaking it, I just went over the color with my StampinUp Crumb Cake marker. I tried to stay inside the lines, but didn’t worry about full coverage as I thought the different bits of colors would add interest/depth.

One final touch was to add a couple staples. I know some folks don’t like staples, but I don’t mind them – especially when they reinforce a theme. I really like how they finish off the card.

Oh, I don’t mind staples, but I don’t like stuff showing on the inside of my cards. I added the staples to the white panel only and then taped it to the card base. This is fine for me as they are just decorative and not functional. If I needed them to be functational I would have decorated the inside so they were covered up.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Happy Birthday

CAS Sketch at SplitCoastStampers

The hostess of the Clean & Simple challenge at SplitCoastStampers asked me to post this week’s challenge for her. Of course I said yes!

Thankfully she had all the work done already 😉 Here is the sketch for the challenge (#204):

And here is my card for the challenge:

kth_thanks_kindflowers

I really love this Summer Silhouette stamp set and decided that the border image would make a great decorative edge (instead of scallops).

I knew I wanted a soft color palette. I was surprised when I chose Certainly Celery – it has been ages since I used that color (I always seem to use one of the other great SU greens). I’m also not much of pink person, so I used Coral instead. Unfortunately, this is going to someone who likes blue, and I managed not to get a single lick of blue in there! Oh well, hopefully I’ll be forgiven!

I hope you’ll join me – and the design team – and play along with this challenge!

Thanks for taking a peek!

so kind of you

Birthday Feathers

kth_bday_MasculineFeathers

This is my second Inkup camp card. My task was to use Fine Feathers to make a masculine card.

The strips of colored cardstock are 3/4″ each. I taped them together in the back and then stamped my collage on the front. I started the collage with the one feather I would highlight then worked around that image.

Vintage Birthday

kth_bday__VintageTypewriter

This week is stamp camp at Inkup. I had two cards to create for camp. This first one
was to use Established Elegance to create a birthday card.

I always see this set as vintage (though I have seen some great ideas in the catalog that don’t go that route). So when designed this card, I wanted a shabby chic feel.

I started by stamping the typewriter image where I wanted it on the main panel. Then I went back and added the details – flourish and seal in pretty in pink, partially inked Travel Journal wheel randomly stamped down the right side (in crumb cake), and finished off with some spritzing with the Suede marker.

I distressed the edges of the panel and then adhered it to the card base. I laid down a strip of sticky tape and adhered the ribbon, making ruffles along the way. The final touches were the popped sentiment and button (which is centered in the seal).

Pretty Pink Drinks

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge -> #8 – colours.

2013-01-17

And here is my take:

kth_bday_melondrinks

My first thought with these colors was a flower, but I really wanted to do something else. I just re-joined the birthday RAK group at SCS so I am in need of birthday cards. I thought the Happy Hour set would work well for these colors.

Originally I just had the top portion blank with two different drinks stamped above the ribbon, but it felt too bare. I flipped the paper over and did the random stamping instead. I like how this one turned out.

It is hard to see in the picture, but the top of the glass and the bottom of the liquid both have glitter on them.

FYI – Birthday Shells

It is time for another For Your Inspiration challenge. Check out the latest challenge -> FYI37.

FYI37_2013-01-03

This is a cool photo. I loved the white clouds on the blue sky. And the photo theme allowed me to make a birthday card for my beach-loving mom.

kth_bday_textshells

I embossed the shells with white powder. Since the shells have a text background to them, I added a strip of text paper and wrapped it up with some string.

One note, my embossing has never been this good. I had been blaming old powder, but even after a fresh batch I had issues. Why it took me so long, I don’t know – but I finally re-inked my Versamark pad. And now I have perfect embossing! I need to get better at re-inking everything!

A final note, my card is a bit shorter than normal (5 1/4 x 4 1/4). The reason is that I did not stamp my sentiment straight. I straightened it up by trimming the panel, then just trimmed my card base to match. Just another way to save a card.
