Modern Silhouettes

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge: #36 – colors.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #36

And here is my take:

by Karen @ carefree creations - Modern Silhouettes

These colors felt very modern to me. I chose Summer Silhouettes because it had great solid images as well as the perfect border image.

I white embossed the border image on my card base. My main white panel is adhered to the right and popped-up.

The large pink flower is cut-out and popped-up. I added a grey stamped center and a rhinestone.

Masculine Birthday Wishes

CAS Colours & Sketch Challenge #34

And here is my take:

by Karen @ carefree creations - Masculine Birthday

My hubby’s birthday is in a few weeks. I thought this week’s color challenge paired with a moose image would make a great card for him. I did use a sketch from dahlhouse blog.

After doing a watercolor wash with Summer Starfruit in the background, I decided that the panel was a bit plain, so I used some old Smooch Spritz and the Spritzer tool to add some splots of the dark brown color.

Stamp Camp Cards

These are the cards I created for mom’s July stamp camp. My job was to use some photopolymer stamps and make a juvenile birthday card.

First up the juvenile birthday card:

by Karen @ carefree creations - Cake & Candles

I wanted a card that could be used for a large age range, and any gender. And, you know me, a rainbow can never be wrong 😉

The cake is gently watercolored with blender pens and ink.

The pennant pieces are alternated in there adhesive, dimensional and glue (though even the glue are just at the top so the bottoms can be fluffed).

My other card uses a recent photopolymer set that I fell in love with:

by Karen @ carefree creations - Hello

I went with a graphic type background stamping the arrows in the background. The label was stamped and trimmed out. I used a marker to hand write “me”, though you could easily use the alphabet from Designer Typeset.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Sherbet Butterflies

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #31

And here is my take:

by Karen @ carefree creations - Sherbet Butterflies

Since I have both punches that coordinate with the butterfly stamp set, I knew using butterflies would be a breeze on this card. I adhered the butterflies with a dab of liquid glue to their middles – leaving the wings free for fluffing. The shadows created from fluffing the wings gives a lot of dimension and (hopefully) keeps the card from being boring.

Grunge-y Hello

by Karen @ carefree creations - Grunge-y Hello

Playing with my new StampinUp sets. I was so happy to see a couple grunge options in the new catalog! The only thing I wish I could get was a good masculine-font sentiment set (especially since Best Dad Ever retired).

My colors came from the ColourQ challenge #192.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Cozy Thoughts

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge: #28 – colors.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #28

And here is my take:

by Karen @ carefree creations - Cozy Thoughts

When the new Stampin’Up catalog came out, there was a set that caught my eye and wouldn’t let go. I’m not sure what it is about the Kind & Cozy set, but I love it! So when my box came in time for me to use my new supplies for this challenge, I knew just which set I’d pull out!

The sentiment and extra flowers are inked using markers.

I did use a non-Stampin Up product to create the faux-stitching around the border, but that’s because I’m essentially lazy. You could easily keep this SU-only (suo) by paper piercing a border.

I didn’t do a great job lining up my gingham wheel, but I am challenged with non-polymer stamps (and, as I said before, too lazy to break out my stamp-a-ma-jig!). Even so, I can’t decide if I like it squashed up against each other, or with a break between them. I guess I’ll just have to spend more time with that wheel and play 😉

My layout is based on a somewhat recent CAS(e) This Sketch layout.

Zebra Spots

by Karen @ carefree creations - Zebra Spots
Working on camp cards for my mom.

My charge for this card was to use Zoo Review. While I chose to go with a pink sentiment, you could easily change this to a masculine card by changing the sentiment color.

I used a drop of grey re-inker and about twice that amount of water. Then I took a paint brush and dipped it into the ink. Just a few taps of the brush against my hand and I had splatters. I did mask the zebra image first.

I was inspired by a sketch at CAS(e) This Sketch (but as usual, I missed the deadline).

Thanks for taking a peek!

Rose Wreath

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge -> #25 – colors.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #25

And here is my take:

by Karen @ carefree creations - Rose Wreath

Typical for me, a pink color with a green color makes me see flowers. I did change the green to Pear instead of Certainly Celery (I prefer the slightly darker green with the darker cajun…and celery is being retired).

For the watercoloring, I used Coral for the background and Cajun for the flowers.

I used the embossing strip to carry along the dotted background of the stamped image.

Pretty Purple Posey

Wow, mailing went quick! Mom got her card today, so I can post it 🙂

Here is my last Mother’s Day card. Since my Mom is a Stampin Up demo, I always try to use only SU products.

by Karen @ carefree creations - Pretty Purple Flower

I used a sketch I found at Clean and Simple (CAS) on Sunday challenge blog.

The flower is an outline image. I stamped it with black ink onto Wisteria Wonder card stock then added highlights and shadows using colored pencils. Here is a detail shot:

by Karen @ carefree creations

I also added a bit of spritzing on the leaf die cut.

You are Wonderful

by Karen @ carefree creations - You Are Wonderful

I created this card for Mom’s stamp camp this week. The theme of the camp is retiring products. Everything I used for this card is retiring!! (Well, except the white paper, lol.)

The hummingbird is fussy cut and popped-up.

So, I need to get three Mother’s Day cards in the mail tomorrow…and I don’t have any made!! Eek! Hopefully I will be forgiven for late cards!
