Oh the Places You’ll Go

The book Oh the Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss is one of my favorites. I received it when I graduated high school. I had never read the story before then and I was perplexed by the gift until I read the story – and then I was in tears (because it is nice when someone has such faith in you 🙂 ). My path has certainly taken me places I didn’t think I’d go, but right now – I am very happy.

This card is for my niece who just graduated college.

The final card happened by accident. I had a panel of white onto which I stamped the image so I could color it. When I was done, I thought hey, this looks pretty good all by itself. I like that it really keeps the focus on the verse and sorta makes you think about it.

These two cards are for the gym & music teachers (I gave the art teacher a generic thank you that I made last month – my brain just couldn’t get artsy, which is sorta ironic, eh?).

Inspired Bird

Back in April I saw this china pattern in Pinterest. The image is of Lenox china (image source).

I actually created this card within a week of seeing the image – but since I sent the card to my secret sister, I couldn’t post it online until now.

I watercolored the bird and trimmed him out. I originally had die-cut the berries from Riding Hood card stock, but they were too vibrant/solid for the feel of the card/inspiration. So, instead, I die-cut from white and watercolored the ink directly onto the die-cuts.

I debated about embossing the card base – and I think it would have been fine plain – but I do like the added texture the embossing adds.

Thanks for taking a peek!

FYI – Aloha

It is time for another For Your Inspiration challenge. Check out the latest challenge -> FYI30.

Seriously? How beautiful is this? The orange sky is just amazing! I think it is pretty obvious how I was inspired.

To do my background, I used a technique that Nichole Heady at Papertrey showed us a few weeks ago during a Make-it-Monday tutorial (mim58). I chose to do a partial background instead of covering the whole panel. To soften my edges I went back over them with the colorless blender.

The palm tree stamp is one my hubby picked up for me a couple years ago during one of his trips to Guam. He’s the bestest 🙂

Miss You All the Time

My hubby is off again today on another week’s business trip. This will be the third in a row (and there is still one more next week). I’m just glad he gets to come home on weekends!

I recently won this Hero Arts stamp set and I am so happy I did – it is perfect for cards like this! To play off the sentiment, I stamped the clock hand multiple times along the clock face.

I die cut the Tessatina border out of wood veneer and left in the cut-out pieces because I liked the more solid effect.

Thanks for stopping by!

Grunge Gift

Next week is Mom’s “last chance” stamp camp (where she celebrates those sets that are retiring). My task was to make a teen card using Grunge Rock & Extreme Elements. But not just any card – a gift card for a graduate. Whew!

Now this isn’t overly “graduation” but it still qualifies 🙂

This is my first time doing grunge and thankfully it wasn’t too hard. I did place the melon splashes in their spots purposely. Also, I added a bit of turquoise to balance the ribbon bow.

To decide on the type of gift-card card to do, I did some searching – looking for a type that we hadn’t done yet, but that was also simple. Thankfully I ran across this card.

I ended up using the Rounded Tab and Word Window punches to make my opening.

Color Crush Inspiration

Through Pinterest, I have found a few color combo sites. One of these sites is Photo Card Boutique who publishes Color Crush Palettes. They posted this palette yesterday. I loved the photo as well as the colors!

It was just the push I needed to try a technique I’d been thinking about.

I’m sure those who use Copics all the time already know that they dry on vellum, but I wasn’t sure – and I really wanted to try coloring vellum with the markers. I was so happy about how easy it really was. To add some interest to my circles, I spritzed them with rubbing alcohol. This gave the circles a great texture (very much like salted watercoloring).

I went with a “thinking of you” theme because the circles (I call them bubbles in my head) are the perfect muted, sedate color palette.

The Color Crush Palette photo helped me with the layout of the card as well. And I chose to embossed the card base with the wood grain because of the photo.

Thanks for taking a peek!

FYI – Light Glare

It is time for another For Your Inspiration challenge. Check out the latest challenge -> FYI28.

This photo is so cool. The colors are not what you’d think and the play of the light is interesting. What first caught my eye was the light glare – and I just thought lots of circles.

While this is my normal CAS style, it is also my attempt at the graphic style. The circles are done with lots of Spellbinder circle dies. I actually ran the dies through the machine layered together (not sure if you’re supposed to or not, but I wanted them as close to perfect as I could get). I chose my colors from the photo. Then I found a sentiment with the right font.

FYI – Chase the Gloomies Away

It is time for another For Your Inspiration challenge. Check out the latest challenge -> FYI27. This challenge is sponsored by The Cutting Cafe.

This photo is so dramatic! I love the dark clouds in the background with the lighthouse still in the sun. I decided to go with the rain theme.

I used lots of shades of grey – and touches of color. I stamped the umbrella and galoshes on white paper so their white would pop.

While I did use two grey papers, this card is done with only one grey ink! The clouds and umbrella handle are generation impressions (the dark cloud is after stamping off once, the small cloud twice and the umbrella handle 3 times).

Birthday Carnival

Even though I am neglecting so many responsibilities, I am loving all the stamping time I’ve had this week.

Today I created a card for the latest Fall-To-Layout (ftl184).

While I did manage to keep the card itself clean and simple – my colors are a bit overwhelming….but it is a birthday card 🙂

Thanks for stopping by!
