Computer Glitch

kth_bday_computerglitch

I made this card for my BIL. I don’t know many other techy people, so I definitely wanted to use this computer image. When I looked at the latest CAS challenge over at SCS (CAS08) and thought it would work perfectly.

The font for the binary lines isn’t very tech looking, but I thought it went with the whimsical lines of the computer. I was just glad that stamping all those was very easy!

Fish Wishes

kth_bday_fishwishes

This card is for the PTI Forum mid-week challenge (CMWC48), which was a sketch. The colors came from the OCCC blog. When I do a PTI challenge I like to use PTI stamps, but I challenged myself even more by doing a card I could send out this week for a male birthday coming up. Lots of restrictions!

I really only have one set that is sorta masculine – Pond Life. So I browsed the gallery until I found this card by Julie Cameron – I immediately knew the fish scene would be perfect! I like how this card turned out, though I didn’t follow the sketch strictly. I love using white as a mat to lighten up the darker colors.

I even did the inside (it has been a few cards since I did an inside, hee hee).

Hoot of a Day

kth_bday_owlhoot

There are a few birthdays coming up for which I need masculine cards. When I saw the new color combo over on Dawn’s blog, I knew it would work perfectly.

I’m not sure I’m all that happy with the final product, but I really couldn’t think of anything else to do that didn’t make it go overboard.

Hoot of a Day

Ink: Burnt Umber (Palette), Certainly Celery (SU), Taken with Teal (SU);
Paper: Taken with Teal, Certainly Celery, Celery Prints, Choco Chip (SU); White, Chocolate Remix DSP (PTI);

Simply Hoppy

kth_bday_simplyhoppy

This card was created for the Clean & Simple challenge at SCS (CAS04). The challenge was to accent with dots – pierced or markered. I’ve always wanted to do a card like this – with piercings delineating the “focal area”. Unfrogettable is one of my favorite sets and since I haven’t used it in awhile, I thought he would be a cute addition to the card.

Happy Birthday

Cheers Pattern

kth_bday_cheers

I stamped the drink images on a panel the other day, but the scale was off for what I wanted. Then when I checked out the Limited Supplies challenge over at SCS (LSC209), I knew I would use the panel. The challenge was to create your own pattern paper. Coloring this was a pain, but I love how it turned out – so while I wouldn’t do it all the time, I’m glad I did it. I kept the rest of the card really simple so the pattern paper would stand out.

Cheers to You

Simple Sofa

kth_anniversary_sofasimple

Last week I stumbled upon a (new to me) blog – Clean and Simple Stamping. They host challenges that encourage clean and simple cards. I love the look of clean and simple, but struggle sometimes to really do it…so I definitely wanted to watch this blog and participate.

This card was made for challenge #FTL31 (sketch challenge). I have an anniversary card to make. I’m not sure how/why, but the sofa image from Stampin’Up! jumped into my head immediately. I am learning that I like fun and cute more than elegant. After I selected my images, I checked out my paper stash and found this fun pattern that reminded me of buttons (and the color scheme was perfect for the recipients). I really really wanted to add a button to the paper, but it needed a bit a twine, and then I just felt that was too much. I really like how this card turned out!

Happy Together
All Stampin’Up! unless otherwise noted.
Stamps: Please Be Seated, Happy Everything;
Ink: Sage Shadow, Pumpkin Pie, Chocolate Chip;
Paper: Sage Shadow, Chocolate Chip, Autumn Vine DSP, Vanilla (PTI);

Garden Elements, part 2

kth_gardenelementsset_5of8

If you missed the first three cards I made with the Roof Garden Accents and Elements kit, make sure you check out yesterday’s post.

This first card was fun to make. I found some cool geometric paper within the Urban Garden DSP pack. I thought the wavy lines from the Elements kit worked well with that. I decided I wanted a big focal sentiment and created one using Elegant Greetings and Fundamental Phrases. I offset the sentiment and left room to add a leafy Element. I popped the leaves up and added a little detail with the white gel pen.

This is another of my favorites. When I saw the daisy paper from the Urban Garden DSP, I just knew I needed to use it. I’ve been ogling mom’s Top Note die cut so I grabbed that too. I used taffeta ribbon to hide the seem of the cardstock and pattern paper. Next time I will trim off the pointy parts from the die cut so the ribbon lays better. I popped a couple flowers over the ribbon.

So, using the daisy portion of the patten paper in the above card left some great wavy lines behind in the scrap pile. I thought they would make a cool border. Again I used dimensionals to pop the flowers up. For the sentiment, I used the corner rounder and tucked it under the border.

That is all for today. I have two more cards to post – some come back tomorrow to check them out. Thanks for stopping by!

Irish Luck

Lucky Me CardI really love the Stampin’Up! St. Patty set – Pinch Proof. I made this card for one of mom’s upcoming stamp camps. We used this set last year, so I wanted to use the other images from the set. I also wanted the card to be useable even if the person didn’t want to send it for St. Patrick’s Day.

Many of the cards in the February camp use a square, so instead of making another, I turned it a bit and made it a diamond. After stamping, I added a rhinestone for a bit of fun. I popped it up on dimensionals so that the ribbon could be threaded behind the image. The clover in the background is stamped with Versamark – the Kiwi ink was too dark.

Holiday Card

I’m starting to work on mom’s stamp camp cards for September. She usually choses the stamp sets and I’ll design the cards. For this set, she asked that the tree be popped and to use glitter somewhere.

I really enjoy using Kraft when I make Christmas cards. So, knowing that, but not wanting to repeat my previous country-style cards, I went with the typical red/green color combination. Since red/green isn’t a favorite of mine, I kept the red as an accent color and used it sparingly.

This is not a stamp set I would have chosen for my own collection, but it was fun to create this card! Though coloring the letters was a bit of a pain 🙂 After coloring the image the word “holidays” felt bare, so I outlined it with the thin tip of the yellow marker – it balances the yellow star nicely. I then added white dots to the tree and that made me think of the Polka Dot background for the accent panel. When that was done it still needed something, so I broke out my Photo Corner punch and that did it for me. Very quick and easy card.

Supplies (all products Stampin’Up!):
Stamps: Big on Christmas, Polka Dot;
Ink: Stazon Black, White, markers: Real Red, Yoyo Yellow, white gel pen;
Paper: Kraft, Real Red, Glorious Green, Whisper White, Basic Black;
Other: Photo Corner punch, scissors, glue & glitter (on star)

A Tiny Challenge

I just posted my VSN challenge over at SCS. I can’t take credit for the challenge idea, but it was fun writing up the post and creating the samples. I’ve never done “inchies” before – mostly because I felt the real estate of a card was too big for just 1 inch. I took the easy route for my first venture and did a group of inchies (which I’ve dubbed “groupies” – corny, but cute). This was easy to do, but I didn’t feel like I really tried the challenge since there was more than one of them on the card. So, keeping with the same stamp set, I tried again. This was actually easier than I thought it would be! I don’t know if “inchies” will become a staple in my design box, but at least I’m not afraid of them any more!

FYI, the pattern paper used on the spider card is a spider web (retired SU paper) that I outlined with a Stardust pen. I also punched the bottom of the card to resemble the web edges.

Supplies:
Stamps: Bitty Boos, Everyday Flexible Phrases (SU)
Ink: More Mustard, Black (SU)
Paper: More Mustard, Black, White (SU); Halloween Night (SU)
Other: grosgrain ribbon, stardust pen, slot punch, word window punch, brads
