Halloween Cards

I know, I know – it is December, why in the world would I post my Halloween cards?! Well, I kinda like these cards, and seeing as I lost some of my photos when my computer crashed, my blog has become my repository…so if I don’t post, I may lose them!

witchycat

My first card is my favorite. I love the images – and I got to color! I really don’t want to invest in markers, but I must admit I would love to see this card done with Copics to get the bright vibrant look I would prefer.

The layout is a Jen del Muro SFYTT from back in September. I knew as soon as I saw the sketch what I wanted to do – it just took a month or so to get it done!

trickortreatspots

My second card is also based on a sketch, but I can’t remember whose! I love using this grid technique for those small stamps.

skeletalgreetings

Next up is a fun one. I *love* the new Scary Skeleton – though I don’t think he’s all that scary! While cutting him out is a pain, it always seems worth it! I plopped him down on the layer to make it look like he was sitting and waving. The rhinestone eyes were my finishing touch.

The Razzleberry layer has a border punched on the bottom. I don’t own any of those fancy Martha Stewart punches (yet), so I had to make mine by using the SU Curly Label punch. I didn’t get it quite straight and even, but I think it works okay.

monstermash

I really really really want a “Monster Mash” sentiment. I love this song – it is so fun! I thought about finding the perfect font, but as I still needed to make quite a few more card, I opted for hand writing something.

This one was a little harder to color because so much of it should be non-colors. But figuring out the masking was fun – to keep out the mummy’s sign and the ghost’s pumpkin.

sweethalloween

I love Halloween – but to me Halloween is about the scary not so much the sweet. However, many of my recipients are the opposite, so I needed a few sweet cards too. I dislike making more than 1 of any design, but for this card, I made 3. Thankfully it is a very simple design – and I got to use up some of my ancient paper stash!

Dia de los Muertos

kth_halloween_diadelosmuertos

I started this card a few weeks ago – in response to Nicole’s blog challenge on World Card Making day (wcmd2). The challenge was to be inspired by Mexico. In thinking of Mexico, I think bright colors, mosaic tiles, and the Day of the Dead. I have no idea why I think about that holiday…but I do.

Anywho. I started the card, but there was no way I was going to finish on time for the challenge so I set it aside. Making the mosaic took FOREVER – though, in all fairness, it was probably because I chose the wrong movies to watch while I worked – I ended up spending more time watching than cutting/gluing!

And then, once I had the focal part done I decided to make a mosaic border too, ugh! {more time passes}

I finally got it all finished today. I really love how it turned out!

Oh, and here is a frugal tip 🙂 The “thread” I used is really the elastic string that ties kids shoes together in the store. I’ve been saving it to use as, well, elastic, but the texture of it worked so much better than embroidery thread, so I used it here too.

Singing in the Rain reprise

kth_badday_umbrellaflip

I really loved my previous inside-out umbrella card and thought I really should do one utilizing only PTI products so I could enter it into their monthly challenge. I like how this one turned out!

Since I chose to use only PTI products, the dark grey cardstock makes it difficult, in the picture, to see the lines of the umbrella, but IRL they are very visible.

When it Rains
All supplies from PTI.
Stamps: Scattered Showers, Fancy Flourishes;
Ink: Smokey Shadow, Basic Black (ok, well really I have Noir and Charcoal by Palette, but they are the same according to Nicole 😉
Paper: Soft Stone, Smokey Shadow;

Sketchy Thoughts

kth_thinking_shoresketch

This card was created for a sketch on CPS – CPS120. I wasn’t sure what set to use, but this OCL set was visible in my storage box and I thought it would work. I like how this turned out.

Thinking of You
Stamps: Coastal Wishes (OCL);
Ink: Noir (Palette); watercoloring with Turquoise, Tangerine, Celery, Brillant (SU);
Paper: Brilliant, White, Turquoise Prints, Brilliant Prints, Tangerine (SU);

Mmm Lifesavers

Have you noticed that most of my cards end up reminding me of food? Hee hee, maybe I don’t always post about it, but it’s true. I *love* food. So it really is no surprise that today’s color challenge (CC221) made me think Lifesavers.

kth_thanks_lifesaver

I even decided I should make circles like lifesavers, but of course, I only have a couple circle punches with me (and I didn’t want to deal with my coluzzle to make frames). And the two punches I have didn’t leave enough cardstock left to resemble a lifesaver. But as I was playing with the frame and left-over circles, I decided I liked how they looked layered. Then I decided to add the DSP but didn’t want it showing through the frames. A little work and I was able to punch out the half-circles from the paper so it didn’t show.

There is no stamping on this card as I didn’t have a stamp with the sentiment I wanted. So I bravely added my own handwriting (after practicing a few times). Oooh, I guess I did stamp – the line is from a PTI set. I had the line of dots out, but went with the line instead….mistake! I think the dots would have looked much better – but done is done!

You’re a Lifesaver!
Stamps: line – Paper Tray (PTI);
Ink: Old Olive marker, Tangerine Tango ink (SU);
Paper: Hawaiian Papaya DSP (SU), Riding Hood Red, Kiwi Kiss, Tangering Tango CS (SU);

Lucky Stars

kth_thanks_luckystars

Today is the sketch challenge on SCS. I wasn’t really sure about that sketch, but when I decided I didn’t have to follow it exactly, I decided I could do it!

I didn’t take the one layer all the way to the top and I added three elements to the side instead of two. But otherwise, I think I kept to the sketch well.

kth_thanks_luckystars_inside

I added a couple strips of pattern paper to the inside and the small star from the Let Freedom Ring (PTI) stamp set.

Simply Lounging

Last week I purchased a couple sets from Our Craft Lounge and just had to play with them.

kth_relax_quietbeach

This first card uses Coastal Wishes. A set I bought because it makes me think of my mom. She loves the beach, and lighthouses, and pelicans….well – I can make lots of cards for her with this set! Since I’ve been in a ‘simple’ stamping mood lately, I kept this one very simple with no layers and just a little color. I have debated about adding a black outline around the image, but I’m afraid it will ruin it, so I’ve left it!

kth_bday_sweetcookies

My second card uses the other set I bought – a baking set. I don’t really cook/bake, but I do love food (especially sweet stuff), so I can see making cards that are food related 🙂 This one is for a friend with a birthday coming up soon.

Relax & Enjoy
Stamps: Coastal Wishes (OCL);
Ink: Noir (Palette), Cool Carribean, Mellow Moss (SU), Bamboo (CTMH);
Paper: Rustic Cream (PTI);

Rain or Shine

kth_loveyou_rainorshine

Earlier this week a new Clean and Simple challenge was posted on SCS (CAS15). The challenge was a color challenge – Black, White, and one Bold Bright color. I just received the PTI Scattered Showers set in the mail yesterday, so I decided to use that. I kept the layout simple so the pop of color would be the focal.

Inside I stamped the Wellie from Green Thumb in turquoise ink.

I Love You
Stamps: Scattered Showers, Green Thumb (PTI);
Ink: Noir (Palette);
Paper: White, Black (PTI); Tempting Turquoise Prints (SU);
Other: turquoise ribbon (SU), embossing (CB);

Unmounted Mishap

kth_happyday_reversedtrees

This is a card I created for Mom’s May stamp camp. Her requirements were to use Lovely as a Tree to make a masculine card. I also knew that a customer had requested a card using glossy paper. So I decided to add that in too. I really like how the reverse masking and resist turned out. The final touch was to add the sentiment.

I unmount my stamps. I love using my stamps unmounted. Early on I realized that it would be helpful to mark the backs with an arrow showing which way was up. So far, that hasn’t failed me, but today….it did. I had marked the “Happy” form Happy Everything upside down! That particular stamp drives me nuts and I really should have stamped it before I used it, but since the back was marked, I thought I was good to go.

Oh well, live and learn (and re-mark!).
