One Sketch, Three Cards

I was selected to be a Guest Designer for the CAS challenge at SCS. And I got the first week (good thing I like working under a tight deadline, lol). This week’s challenge is a sketch based on Denise’s card (cas83).

When I first saw her card, this leaf card came right to mind. I love it when tools make life easy! With the leaf die and impression plate, this card came together quickly. The layout is a little different from the original, but I think you can still see it: the 4-square leaf is pretty obvious, but the twine knot is in the same position as the ghost; and the sentiment under it all.

While I feel the first card qualifies as Clean and Simple, I know others may not. So I made another card. This one is a one-layer card. It was so fun to make (I love bright colors). I’ve had the arrow set since it came out but hadn’t gotten around to using it. Again, the sketch is there, though a little muddier this time. The circle with “10” in it is in place of the ghost, and this time the sentiment is off-set to the left like the original. Even though there aren’t 4 arrows, I still feel they fit the sketch.

For the final card I still kept close to the layout, but it is flipped horizontally – the witch being the ghost and the sentiment hanging off the right-side instead of left.

I don’t think I’ve ever done more than 1 card for a specific challenge before. Great sketch Denise!

Thank You

Hoppy Birthday

When I first looked at this DTGD sketch challenge I was going to pass it up, but I checked out the gallery and decided I could do it – I just had to find the right set. I had other ideas, but I think because I haven’t used Unfrogettable in so long and it is one of my favorites (see), I decided to use it.

I chose the paper next (thinking I’d throw in the “mixing patterns” challenge too, but, well, as you can see, I didn’t). The colors in the paper set the tone for the card.

Thanks for stopping by!

Friendship Block

Today’s CAS challenge on SCS (cas70) was to have the sentiment be the focus.

As with most things I had lots of ideas but not the right supplies to pull them off. I thought a rebus would be really cute but I couldn’t come up with one I liked. Then I really wanted to do something like Erin’s Sit a Spell card (4th card down). Which got me thinking of a word block (like this) but in a cool retro font like an old circus poster.

I eventually settled on using this old background from StampinUp. Hmmm…I hate it when my imagination out paces my abilities!

Thanks for checking it out.

Thinking of You

I haven’t stamped much the past couple of weeks (I was caught up with my other favorite hobby – reading), but I have been keeping up on my blog reading. The past couple of days I’ve seen a few cards using the same sketch that really got my attention. I found the challenge over at Moxie Fab World (sketch). The sketch is from Paper Craft’s latest magazine: Go To Sketches (I *must* get this book!).

What really caught my eye was the use of a speech bubble. This card popped into my head immediately – well, at least the idea of using this specific cat image with a thought bubble that says “you”. The rest of the card took 3 hours to put together, lol.

I had to do the inside of this one to help bring the sentiment to fruition. I really wanted something that said “thinking of you makes me smile”, but I don’t have that specifically and I couldn’t make piecing one together from different stamps look right…so I went with this one – I think the idea still gets across.

Summer Scene

I made this card for the Sweet Sunday Sketch challenge (sssc63). I’ve always had a hard time with circles. For this one I decided to make create a scene.

When I decided on a beach theme, I wanted a shovel & pail (because my favorite beach memories are making sand castles with my family). Since the PTI set doesn’t have one, I pulled out this set from TAC that I’ve had forever. I did use the PTI set for the sentiment though.

Crazy 4 Challenges is hosting a “Use Kraft” challenge (c4c31), so I did – as my sand and card base.

I was going to make this card for the Embellishment Magazine’s pub call, but I could NOT figure out how to put a button on without it seeming like an afterthought. So I gave up on that idea and will just have to figure something else out (good thing I like working with bright colors!).

Bug Me

I made this card for the Dirty Dozen challenges on SCS (March 2010). The theme this month is All Creatures Great and Small so I wanted my card to use animals. I thought the Bugs & Kisses set would work well with the sketch.

I really think I’m going to buy me a little Janome sewing machine. I did this sewing by hand it and it took forever! I do love the texture sewing provides though, and sometimes it is worth the effort.

I had a hard time pulling this card together and while I don’t love it, I do think it is cute. I think I got a little too ambitious with all the colors. I wanted color for the sentiment, but everything was too overwhelming. I settled for a white tag with a little blue oval peeking out behind it.

Birthday Fishes

Have you been Res-Q’d? It’s a challenge blog dedicated to rescuing your mojo! Last week’s challenge was Faux Snake Skin (RESQ32).

I don’t have a lot of western stampage, so I went with blues when I created my background. When I was done I thought it looked like it could be water, so that is the direction I went with the card. I had stamped some blue fish, but that wasn’t poppin’ so I made orange fish instead. They really take the focus now.

The layout is also a challenge – this time the weekly Sketch challenge at SCS (sc268).

Magical Pony

I am a child of the 80s and I *loved* playing with “My Little Pony”! My mom kept all my ponies – and I rolled my eyes at her pack-rat tendencies – but now my girls enjoy playing with the very same dolls I had when I was their age!

When Stampin Up came out with this stamp set I knew I must own it. Though technically my kid owns it as my mom bought it for them, but I asked permission and they allowed me to use the set to make this card. 😀

This card fulfills two challenges – the ColorQ challenge (CQC14) and the latest Stamping 411 sketch (SSC133).

I love Razzleberry, it is my favorite of the current SU InColors. My first instinct was to do a garden card, but I also wanted to do something different. The other day I worked with a multi-color challenge and had thought about pulling out the Pony set but I didn’t. So I had to do it this go ’round. I love how this one turned out. I used the texture cardstock for the base card and it gave just the right touch for the background.

Rockin’ Moxie

Earlier today Cath at Moxie Fab World posted a color challenge (ColorPlay). At first I was daunted by the color combo, but it was definitely intriguing! I played with a few ideas and finally settled on a “doodle” card. It still took me a couple tries to get here, but I am quite happy with the result (I love when that happens!).

Doodled Greetings

This is another card I started for a challenge. This time, a sketch from CPS (CPS110). I knew what I wanted to do with this card from the beginning, I just ended up taking a couple weeks to do some programing before I finished it. I even did the inside on this one 😉

I originally wanted to put some “texting” message in the oval. So I headed over to netlingo to look up some of the latest acronyms. I must say, that I am not looking forward to having my kids start texting!

Today’s pondering had me trying to figure out which challenges to follow. There are SO MANY challenges out there – and most of them are very good. I think I haven’t been stamping much lately because I am overwhelmed with trying to do them all. I need to pick a few and just look at the others. How did you decide what challenges to do?
