Butterfly and Posies

I created this card for the May Flowers CAS challenge on SCS (cas65). I had already stamped my Mother’s Day cards when I checked out the challenge, but I always need “thank you” cards. I actually stamped this and then set it aside for a week because I didn’t like how it finished up. I’m so glad I did. I’m much happier with this result.

I bought Awash with Flowers when it was first offered and I hadn’t inked it up, and I’ve been quite inspired by the cards I’ve seen using it. Next time I use the set though, I will probably watercolor. I don’t mind that the solid images don’t fit completely, but the one image (middle pink) just seems really wonked – maybe I just need to play with it more.

thank you

Quick and Easy

I wanted to make a set of cards that I could give to a friend. I didn’t want to worry with special handling or extra postage for lumpy cards, so I went with simple one layer cards.

I’m not really a fan of stamping the same thing more than once – but dang these cards were so fast, it didn’t matter. I ended up making a set of 6 – 3 of each design.

Summer Scene

I made this card for the Sweet Sunday Sketch challenge (sssc63). I’ve always had a hard time with circles. For this one I decided to make create a scene.

When I decided on a beach theme, I wanted a shovel & pail (because my favorite beach memories are making sand castles with my family). Since the PTI set doesn’t have one, I pulled out this set from TAC that I’ve had forever. I did use the PTI set for the sentiment though.

Crazy 4 Challenges is hosting a “Use Kraft” challenge (c4c31), so I did – as my sand and card base.

I was going to make this card for the Embellishment Magazine’s pub call, but I could NOT figure out how to put a button on without it seeming like an afterthought. So I gave up on that idea and will just have to figure something else out (good thing I like working with bright colors!).

April Showers

I love the rain. Probably because I like the green (grass & trees) that comes from a good rain. When I think spring, I think rain. So when I saw the latest challenge on the Passion for Papertrey blog, my mind immediately went to the Scattered Showers set.

I found a couple challenges to help me finish the card: a sketch from Karen Giron (sssc61), and a color scheme from the Color Chef (chef44). I’m so lucky my PTI order arrived today – I got my PTI Hawaiian Shores supplies!

Gifts of Spring

Isn’t this pretty? I’m so happy with this card! I made this card using the sketch over at Sweet Stop (sss47).

I don’t have much in the way of Berry pattern paper, so I knew I would do stamping to create that portion of the card. Today over on the Maxie Fab World Blog, Cath discussed some recent trends. One trend is using vellum. I hardly ever think about that stuff, but since it was fresh in my mind I thought it would be the perfect way to tone down the Berry paper and get my texture.

Turtle Day

I made this cute little cas card for a couple challenges. The first challenge was from CAS on SCS (cas58) which was a color challenge (and of course keep it CAS). The theme I got from the ResQ blog (resq36) which was to make a boy’s birthday card.

Olympic Inspiration

I was surfing the ‘net looking for inspiration so I could complete a past CAS challenge (a requirement for their DT challenge – wish me luck!). The Pairs Figure Skating came on and I noticed the side boards had these cool curving waves in great colors. There was a past CAS challenge to use curves (CAS45), so I went with it!

I hand drew my curves and played around with how to intertwine them. Once I got them settled I looked for something as a focal point. I decided on the circle sentiment from the CTMH set called Free Spirit. The stars just made sense after that 🙂

Friendly Smiles

I stamped this background originally for the ladybug card but it didn’t work out. The card was lying on my desk and it was turned sideways (originally I had planned it portrait) and I thought, that looks like a branch – which would work perfectly for the current CAS challenge “wishing for spring” (CAS54).

I added the words and the punchies and the card was done. Very quick. (Yay!)

Simple & Sweet

A clean & simple valentine. That is what the CAS challenge at SCS was this week (CAS48). The main image is an old Hero Arts set that I love and never use. The mask was done with a Spellbinders die.

Making Cards, part 3

kth_thanks_austinspired

The final PTI challenge was Inspired by Australia. When I think Australia, I think the Outback – not the restaurant . . . the dusty, desert Outback. The challenge was to use dot outlined images and masking.

The masking was in reference to Aboriginal art that was done by using a body part (like a hand) as a mask and blowing paint over it. Using that idea I grabbed a sponge and my color spritzer tool. I embossed the butterflies (I know, not technically a mask, but um, I was NOT going to cut out all those dots for the big butterfly! 😉 ). Then I sponged around the images, and finally used the spritz tool to add even more depth/color. I like the monochromatic look and the color scheme reminds me of the Outback.
