From Trash to Treasure

I’ve been saving the stamp set wraps from PTI packaging for a long time. But there was a recent challenge at the Res-Q blog (RESQ04TT) that made me get them out and actually do something with them!

Mmm Lifesavers

Have you noticed that most of my cards end up reminding me of food? Hee hee, maybe I don’t always post about it, but it’s true. I *love* food. So it really is no surprise that today’s color challenge (CC221) made me think Lifesavers.

kth_thanks_lifesaver

I even decided I should make circles like lifesavers, but of course, I only have a couple circle punches with me (and I didn’t want to deal with my coluzzle to make frames). And the two punches I have didn’t leave enough cardstock left to resemble a lifesaver. But as I was playing with the frame and left-over circles, I decided I liked how they looked layered. Then I decided to add the DSP but didn’t want it showing through the frames. A little work and I was able to punch out the half-circles from the paper so it didn’t show.

There is no stamping on this card as I didn’t have a stamp with the sentiment I wanted. So I bravely added my own handwriting (after practicing a few times). Oooh, I guess I did stamp – the line is from a PTI set. I had the line of dots out, but went with the line instead….mistake! I think the dots would have looked much better – but done is done!

You’re a Lifesaver!

Umbrella Dichotomy

I’m still playing with my PTI Umbrella set. This is such a fun set!

kth_badday_flippedumbrella

This first card is an idea I’ve had since I saw the set. Ya know it’s gonna be one of those days when your umbrella doesn’t cooperate 😉 The sentiment is from Verve (they have such cool sentiments!). The ‘wind’ is using one of the flourishes from the new PTI set (another awesome set). PTI has a dark grey paper, but it was too dark, so I used SU’s Basic Grey. PTI’s Soft Stone color though is very nice.

kth_sunshine_parasol

This second card was my first attempt at a card for the PTI Blog Hop (the challenge is to use yellow). I wanted the umbrella to be a parasol – so I stamped the flourish from With Sympathy and clear embossed it; then, on the back, I stamped the smaller umbrella and cut it out. Click the image to see the detail. I love how that part turned out, but the rest of the card just isn’t cutting it for me. I hope to work in another parasol in a future card because I think it is pretty.

Simply Lounging

Last week I purchased a couple sets from Our Craft Lounge and just had to play with them.

kth_relax_quietbeach

This first card uses Coastal Wishes. A set I bought because it makes me think of my mom. She loves the beach, and lighthouses, and pelicans….well – I can make lots of cards for her with this set! Since I’ve been in a ‘simple’ stamping mood lately, I kept this one very simple with no layers and just a little color. I have debated about adding a black outline around the image, but I’m afraid it will ruin it, so I’ve left it!

kth_bday_sweetcookies

My second card uses the other set I bought – a baking set. I don’t really cook/bake, but I do love food (especially sweet stuff), so I can see making cards that are food related 🙂 This one is for a friend with a birthday coming up soon.

Relax & Enjoy
Stamps: Coastal Wishes (OCL);
Ink: Noir (Palette), Cool Carribean, Mellow Moss (SU), Bamboo (CTMH);

Rain or Shine

kth_loveyou_rainorshine

Earlier this week a new Clean and Simple challenge was posted on SCS (CAS15). The challenge was a color challenge – Black, White, and one Bold Bright color. I just received the PTI Scattered Showers set in the mail yesterday, so I decided to use that. I kept the layout simple so the pop of color would be the focal.

Inside I stamped the Wellie from Green Thumb in turquoise ink.

I Love You
Stamps: Scattered Showers, Green Thumb (PTI);
Ink: Noir (Palette);
Paper: White, Black (PTI); Tempting Turquoise Prints (SU);
Other: turquoise ribbon (SU), embossing (CB);

Tweet Birds

kth_hello_tweetbirds

Today’s card was done for the Moxie Fab Color Challenge (blog post). The colors felt summery to me. I just received my PTI Bird Watching sets, so it didn’t take long to figure out how to get started. The layout is from PageMaps (March 2009).

I didn’t bother with a photo, but I did stamp the birdhouse stack on the inside.

Ink: Summer Sunrise, River Rock, Old Olive (SU);

A Broken Challenge

kth_brokenheart

My mom issued a challenge to her customers: Create a card to commiserate broken bones, a major operation, stubbed toe, hangnails, or the like. Under the weather cards do not count.

That is a challenge! I don’t have any SU stamps that would really work for that. Thankfully Pick a Petal is on my design todo list for June. Since I had it out, this concept sorta threw itself at me. It is for a broken heart.

kth_brokenheart_inside

I added some uplifting wording on the inside – though many many other options presented themselves too. I hope I never have to send such a card, but I do like how it turned out!

Doodled Greetings

kth_love_doodledgreetings

This is another card I started for a challenge. This time, a sketch from CPS (CPS110). I knew what I wanted to do with this card from the beginning, I just ended up taking a couple weeks to do some programing before I finished it. I even did the inside on this one 😉

I originally wanted to put some “texting” message in the oval. So I headed over to netlingo to look up some of the latest acronyms. I must say, that I am not looking forward to having my kids start texting!

kth_love_doodledgreetings_inside

Today’s pondering had me trying to figure out which challenges to follow. There are SO MANY challenges out there – and most of them are very good. I think I haven’t been stamping much lately because I am overwhelmed with trying to do them all. I need to pick a few and just look at the others. How did you decide what challenges to do?

Summer Brights

kth_summer

I made this card for the SCS Fan Club sketch challenge (DSKETCH0409). Are you a fan club member? It is a great way to support a great community! {SCS Fan Club}

When I first saw the sketch I had lots of ideas, but after a week of rain, I am looking forward to the bright summer! The letters were easy to make. I took glossy cardstock and used markers to make stripes. Then I stamped the outline alphabet and cut out the letters.

kth_summer_inside

On the inside I used a leftover piece of the “rainbow” glossy paper. For some reason this TAC set doesn’t include a sun (the only sentiment in the set is “sizzlin’ summer” – you’d think they’d have a sun image *grin*) but I found another TAC set that did.

Today I was ruminating on the topic of style – not clothing, I don’t have any style there! No, I mean my card-making style. I generally recognize a few styles: collage, vintage, clean-and-simple, and lots-of-layers. I never seem to keep to one particular style, though some styles are definitely harder for me. I always cop-out on style questions and say eclectic. About the only thing I truly know is that I enjoy working with bright colors, which I find interesting because I do *not* do bright in any other aspect of my life.
