Fashionable Ginko

I created this card for the latest Runway Challenge (ric2).

The pattern in the dress looked stripey without being solid…like ants – which is what text sometimes is referred to as, so that is the direction I went.

I started my card knowing I wanted a border of text paper (actually I started with both sides having a border, but that wasn’t working for me). I wanted to do a book themed card, but I couldn’t find a suitable image to go in the space I had created. I opted instead to go with the ginko leaves (set new to me and itching for ink).

For colors I chose to focus on the yellow shoes and green handbag in the inspiration photo – so I added a bit of blue for an analogous combo.

Sunny Birthday

I created this card for the latest Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge (reindeer beer).

From that photo, I pulled the inspiration to use pom-pom trim and stripped ribbon. Since I’m done with everything Christmas, I decided to make a sunny birthday card.

I wanted one little pop, so I covered the heart in the flower image with a red rhinestone (for dimension, because I had colored the heart red but it wasn’t enough for me).

Does anyone know of a grass die that only cuts the top? I know I could get a punch, but I prefer dies.

Santa Flying By

I am a guest designer for this week’s Clean & Simple challenge at SCS (cas150). The challenge was “windows”. There is a lot of interpretation that could be done for that (and I’ll probably be making another card later today), but this card is what first came to mind.

I used a die from PTI to create the window. Since this should be Clean & Simple, I kept the interior design down to a minimum – no drapes, just white wood paneling. I added a tiny touch of color with a red rhinestone in the sentiment.

Encaustic Painting

When I saw the latest For Your Inspiration challenge (FYI20) I immediately knew what I wanted to do – encaustic painting.

This technique is actually quite easy – you just need glossy paper, crayons, and an iron. Melt the crayon right onto the iron and smear onto the paper.

Of course once I was done I wasn’t sure how to make it a card, lol. I knew I wanted the encaustic piece to be the focal, so I didn’t want to cover up too much of it. I ended up just adding some die cuts to help frame it.

Hang the Stockings

I create this card for this week’s CAS challenge at SCS (CAS149). The challenge was to create a shaped card and use a sketch.

I flipped the sketch upside-down to make my card work for me. The stocking tops are cut from felt and the stocking bottoms are embossed.

Worlds Apart

I created this card for mom’s stamp camp last month. My assignment was to use Zoo Review. Since the theme for that camp was the winter holidays, I decided to use the two cold-weather animals.

I know polar bears and penguins don’t co-habitate, but that made me think about how many “invisible” friends I have online – which lead me to the sentiment 🙂

Wintery Thank You

I created this card for mom’s 12 Weeks of Christmas newsletter.

While this may not be “quick” – if you stamp and emboss a couple pieces of blue card stock all at once, you can cut it up and have 8 panels ready for cards. And the rest of the card is super easy.

Nature’s Tree

I was inspired by an adorable card by Julie(HRR) and a cool trimming idea by Lisa Young.

I actually pinned Lisa’s tree when she posted it in October – I wanted to do a tree with sections trimmed with lace or something. But it wasn’t until I saw Julie’s card layout that I figured out how to make my tree into a card.

I originally didn’t want to overwhelm the card with patterned paper as the sky, but now I wish I had at least embossed the background or found a subtle pattern.

Winter Scene

I created this card as soon as I received my In the Meadow stamps & dies. I never did play in the PTI Make it Monday where you layered dies to create frames…so I did that for this card.

The card is pretty straight-forward. I did hand-cut the hill.

Stitched Christmas

These two cards were created for InkUp newsletters. They both happen to use stitching and are Christmas themed, so I thought I’d post them together.

Mom had asked me to create a shaker card using the new Mica Flakes and Dimensional Foam Frames from the Holiday Mini. This card is what I came up with.

To make the ornament shaker, I stamped and punched two ornaments. From one ornament I also punched a circle (I punched a circle from scrap, placed it on my ornament, traced it, then aligned the traced line with the punch). I glued an acetate ornament to the back of the front ornament, followed by a Foam Frame, added a bit of mica, then peeled the liner from the Foam Frame and attached the back ornament.

The hardest part about this card was sewing around the Top Note!! And in case you don’t know, to do the matted Top Note, I just die cut two – one in green and one in white; the “front” one (in this case the green one) was then hand-cut around the embossed dashed lines.

This next card was quite fun. I started by cutting a Vanilla panel the size I wanted the “quilt”. I marked a dot on the Vanilla panel where the sentiment would be. Then I just took one piece of patterned paper and placed the corner on the dot and adhered it, then I trimmed the paper along the Vanilla edge. I repeated that for each of the other three patterns.

I added machine stitching to the pattern panel (zig-zag where the patterns meet and straight around the edge). I wrapped the panel with the ribbon and adhered it to the card base. Finally I stamped and punched my sentiment and adhered it with dimensionals.
