Simple Cupcake

This card was created using a sketch from Clean & Simple blog (FTL164).

I really wanted to make this a one-layer card by doing selective embossing, but everything I tried did not work. I’ve done this in the past, but not with a Cuttlebug folder. I did find a video on YouTube, but even after following that it didn’t work 🙁 Oh well.

Since the cupcake image is so small, I only used two colors to keep the palette simple.

Rockin’ Collage

I created this card for Papertrey’s Make-It-Monday Challenge (mim39). The challenge was to make your own background paper.

I love doing this technique, so I wanted to find a set I hadn’t already done before.

I started my paper with the layout in mind, so I made sure I had a guitar oriented the correct way and would be near where the sentiment strip would end. I worked from there filling in with a star and music notes.

Thanks for stopping by!

Peace and Plenty

I created this card for the WaltzingMouse sketch challenge (wmsc71). As I was looking at the sketch, I was trying to see if I had anything that would work for the circle. I recently purchased the Peace & Plenty set which has a wreath in it.

I pulled out my set and sure enough, I thought it would work. My card isn’t quite the same as the sketch, but I think it is close enough to count, and the sketch is certainly where I started.

Happy Halloween

I neglected to send Halloween cards last year, so I didn’t need to make any this year. But as I was checking my list I realized I needed one more – quick and flat. I checked out SplitCoast and found this lovely by Dawn using Haunted Forest. CASE!

I changed just a bit (like removing the bling since I wanted easy mailing) and one less layer. I also used Brushed Silver for my layer behind the Haunted Forest. I really like the shine that gave it.

Oh, and her main image is stamped on grey, but I wanted to use vellum. So I needed to get creative when adhering the vellum. The image has a few tiny black spots (the animals), so I used those to my advantage and applied tiny dots of liquid glue to those spots. I got lucky and they didn’t even mush out 🙂

Birthday Cards

My step-mother is quite the bridge player – traveling for tournaments and such. Her birthday was a couple weeks ago. I created this card to celebrate her day.

The playing cards were created using different PTI stamp sets: School Time (the frame), Simple Little Things (ornament), and Trajan Monogram (letters).

The card base is embossed with PTI’s Giga Guidelines Impression Plate. I had to piece together the sentiment using different sets, but I’ve forgotten which. I did use an alphabet set to spell “slam” (that set was CTMH Sans Alpha, which is just a bit larger than PTI’s Simple Alpha – see).

Once I adhered the cards to the base, I decide to add the white border with a gel pen. I didn’t think it out too well or I would have placed the sentiment before drawing so that I could “leave space” in the line as I did for the card. They both needed to be treated the same – either gap-ed or solid. Next time 🙂

Acorns & Patterns

It is the 25th of the month and that means PTI Blog Hop! This month I completely forgot – but thanks to my trusty blog reader I saw the post and had time to whip up a card (thankfully they allow submissions until 11:30pm ET, lol).

The inspiration photo for this month’s hop is quite adorable. What caught my eye were all the different patterns and textures so that is where I started.

While I was flipping through my pattern paper I realized that one of the recent PTI packs had a pattern very similiar to what is in the photo (the “floor” piece). I added more patterns using the Woodgrain impression plate to my card base, and Houndstooth stamping to my Mat Stack. I do want to say that lining up the Houndstooth was much easier than other background images – I think that extra space they added to the acrylic around the image definitely helps.

As for texture, the inspiration showed felt leaves and acorns…and that is what I used too. I had to use Chartreuse for the green because they haven’t introduced the Avocado felt yet 🙁 I do hope now that ink is settled (other than getting in the rest of the colors) that PTI finishes issuing felt (I really want some of those older colors!).

Life is a Highway

I wish I could get better photos of Aqua Mist. It is such a wonderful color, but I just can’t seem to get a good photo. Anyway, this card was created last month for my father-in-law’s birthday. He’s traveled a lot and his philosophy really is to enjoy the ride.

I was inspired by a card Heather (pinefeather) did during the countdown for this set.

Birthday Bling

I send out lots of Birthday RAKs and this was a card I made for that purpose.

I think when I sat down to create I was just looking through my index and decided I should use some neglected images. I loved the Hero Arts Filaments set when it came out but hardly used it, so I decided to dig it out and ink it up. The layout is pretty standard/simple.

The vase is the StampinUp ornament punch with the bottom tip lopped off. Not my idea, but a wonderful one!

Thanksgiving Waltz

October’s Waltz theme is thanksgiving. That is my favorite holiday. It has also been a long time since we all got together – but it is happening this year…I’m so looking forward to it!!

I knew right away which stamp set I would use – Teeny Trees. I love that set but it doesn’t see enough ink! The font combination for the sentiments is great. And hey, there’s even a thanksgiving sentiment in the set, so it was meant to be!

I knew I wanted a plaid pattern at the top so I dug through my paper and found some old StampinUp paper. Even though the paper is green and blue I wanted the trees to have fall foliage. I think the brown flourish helps tie the card together.

The layout uses Iwona’s sketch (ssc33). And with the touch of burlap behind the corduroy button, the card also has Moxie Texture.

Shiny Happy Flower

I actually created this card over a month ago for PTI’s Make It Monday Colored Pencil challenge mim30).

I like how this turned out, but I’ll admit, I find it easier to blend with Copics. I was surprised though just how bright I got the color – normally when I do pencils it is too pale.
