Composed Polka Dots

Becky is hosting another Compose a Card challenge (#8). This was a harder challenge for me: black, white and green isn’t a color combo I would normally chose.

I started with the polka dot paper from the Black & White Basics pack. And added the satin green ribbon. I wanted to add a touch of black lace to the bottom similar to the little bit of tulle showing under the dress in the inspiration photo, but I don’t have any black lace. So I went with white tissue paper instead. I think that is better contrast against the black card base anyway.

I wasn’t sure what to do with the focal, but the other components to the card needed to be punches and buttons. I decided the greeting should be the focal. Of course the larger sentiments I have were too big for the area I wanted to cover or didn’t fit in an oval shape. I finally settled on a smaller sentiment and a felt flower accent.

Best Wishes

You’re Tweet

I made this card for the Res-Q Challenge blog (resq39), which was a sketch. As with the previous circle focal, I decided to do a scene – this one a bit more inland.

I did a bit of paper piecing for the bird houses. The cloud was created by tracing one from an old Stampin Up die cut set.

Summer Scene

I made this card for the Sweet Sunday Sketch challenge (sssc63). I’ve always had a hard time with circles. For this one I decided to make create a scene.

When I decided on a beach theme, I wanted a shovel & pail (because my favorite beach memories are making sand castles with my family). Since the PTI set doesn’t have one, I pulled out this set from TAC that I’ve had forever. I did use the PTI set for the sentiment though.

Crazy 4 Challenges is hosting a “Use Kraft” challenge (c4c31), so I did – as my sand and card base.

I was going to make this card for the Embellishment Magazine’s pub call, but I could NOT figure out how to put a button on without it seeming like an afterthought. So I gave up on that idea and will just have to figure something else out (good thing I like working with bright colors!).

Simply Wonderful

This past week’s Clean & Simple challenge on SCS was a sketch (cas60). One I found a bit intimidating! I finally came up with a card. I’m not one who normally puts stuff on a card for the heck of it, and at first, the squares felt like that – just filling in the box of the sketch. But I like it…maybe I can pretend they are windows 😉

I also used the color scheme provided at the Color Dare (cd62). I love this color combo! I actually bought the Western Sky paper from SU because of the colors – but I think this is the first time I’ve used it!

I finally broke down and bought a new border punch. This is one I’ve seen loads on other folks’ cards and I love it.

Butterfly Birthday

I made this card for Becky’s latest Compose a Card challenge (#7). I deviated a bit from her photos – I tried to use yellow, but everything I came up with looked too much like cards that were already posted. So I flipped through my pattern paper and found that Lavender Moon looks really good with Spring Rain & Cream.

Yesterday I went to Ben Franklin with my PTI card swatches and found DMC thread for just about every color. So when I started working on this card I knew I would work in using the thread somehow! I started by using it to add detail to the felt butterfly. Then I added a couple stitches to the blue panel.

I cannot wait for more colors of PTI Felt. That stuff is dreamy! So thick and cuts wonderfully. I have an egg die just waiting for more felt options 🙂

Rock Star

I started this card for the sketch at Clean & Simple Stamping (ftl84). I found a cool color scheme too – at Color Dare (cd61). And finally, I added glitter to participate in the challenge at Stampin’Royalty (sr#12).

The card ended up being huge (a 5 1/2 square) with hang-over bits too. It will definitely have to be a hand-carry card.

Chic Butterfly

When I first started this card it was for the Embellish Magazine color challenge (with stitching). I loved the soft colors and knew I would do a soft card. I don’t really need baby cards, so I wasn’t sure what to do. I found a Moxie Fab Tuesday Trigger (dress) that was an adorable plaid dress with a giant butterfly on it. Then, another challenge (Caardvarks) was to use lace. Finally, I found a layout that I thought would work well – though at first it was very intimidating – from 2 Sketches 4 You (2s4y#48).

This card is not my typical style, but I’m so happy with how it turned out!

I figured a card so nice needed a nice inside too! Instead of lace (because I’m a stingy hoarder, lol) I used a border punch, but the rest mimics the outside pretty well I think.

Thanks for taking time to visit!

How Egg-citing

So yesterday a new ResQ challenge was posted. Tayor issued an egg challenge (resq38). Now the past two days I’ve become obsessed with Molly so when I thought eggs, I thought OWL eggs! I love this set from Gina K and I even have a reason for making an egg card (bonus!).

To help me figure the card out, I found a great sketch over at 2 Sketches (sketch 48 bonus).

Night on the Town

This card is for two challenges. The first, a theme challenge from Jen at SCS (cas59). The challenge was to create a card inspired by New York. When I think New York I think city. I have this stamp that I got for free years ago and have never inked it up. I thought this would be the perfect challenge to use it.

I thought about the card for a day or two. Then the Crazy 4 Challenges blog posted a sketch today that I thought would be perfect for my city card (c4c30).

The sentiment is just my hand writing (if it isn’t obvious seeing as it isn’t neat nor straight, lol).

Hawaiian Hello

Tonight is PTI’s monthly blog hop. This month’s challenge is to use buttons. I don’t use a lot of buttons (they are hard to mail), so I spent the last week or so doing cards with buttons. Of course, then when it came time to do the card I had envisioned for tonight, it would *not* work. So, with a last minute complete change of direction, I bring you this card.

I love this new PTI color: Hawaiian Shores. It is an *awesome* shade of teal. And it goes with so many other colors. I knew I would use it somehow for the blog challenge. Using it as my base color, I added pops of color with the flowers.

The card layout is a sketch from Clean & Simple Stamping blog (ftl83). It was a perfect layout for using the new dies too 🙂

This was such a quick card to put together – the dies make cutting easy.
