Mistletoe Kisses

It’s funny. When the color challenges come up, I always want two shades of a color so I can do layered stamping. I finally get that kind of color challenge and I mess up my card (by using the wrong colors – you’ll see that one tomorrow). I’m not one for making the same card again, so I had to come up with another idea. This mistletoe image was one I was thinking about using already.

To get the two colors of green on one image, I used selective inking. The sentiment on a panel helps to cover where the colors merge.

A double challenge – you have to use the colors and the sketch! I like all these colors, but had never thought to put them together!

When I considered the blue and red I came up with these textures and the rest of the card just came together.

New Year’s Toast

New Year's Toast | by karen @ carefree creations

I had so many ideas for this sketch! I went through my stamp index and found lots of images that would work, but this idea stuck with me the most!

The glasses are die cut from vellum. I used some clear dimensional adhesive under the “liquid” to adhere the glasses to the card.

I sorta wish I had stamped the sparkler higher on the card a bit, but since it still turned out well, I’m good with it!

80s Prep

I was a bit stumped at first with these colors, but I knew I could use some fun & funky flowers and make it work. I found an old Freshly Made Sketch and everything started to come together.

The circle frame is popped up. The inner circle is flat on the card base and has a bit of navy spritzed on it.

After I stamped and die cut the flowers, I decided they needed a bit more interest so I added some navy accents. The top flower felt too solid so I added a rhinestone (which led me to add more rhinestones on the card), and the bottom flower needed even more interest so I white embossed a dot to the center.

The sentiment was white embossed on navy cardstock and then fussy cut.

When I was done, the card reminded me of my teenage years with all the 80s neon and preppy argyle.

This turned out to be one of my favorite cards – which is why I love challenges!!

Trio of Spiders

And here is my take:

Trio of Spiders | by karen @ carefree creations

Most of the stamps are from the retired Bite Me photopolymer set from Stampin’Up. I needed 3 spiders though, so I also grabbed my Spooky Sweets 2 set from Papertrey. All 3 spiders are fussy cut (that was a bit intense!) because with this being so simple and hardly any color, I needed something for depth/interest. The webs are embossed. I dragged my Versamark pad along the edge and embossed that as well. The sentiment is stamped in grey.

Yay – a one-layer card! I think I went the direct opposite from the card I originally made for this challenge (I’ll post it later this week). To give this card some interest, I stamped the tree leaves in two colors.

Happy Fall | by karen @ carefree creations

I’m so ready for autumn!

I almost always reach for a white card base, but I wanted something different this time. Once I knew what I was stamping – and that I could die cut them all out, my base could be any color. I like this pale blue – and it adds just enough crisp feeling to the autumn colors.

Framed in Regals

Framed in Regals | by karen @ carefree creations

This was a challenging one for me. While I love regal colors in my wardrobe, I usually create with brights or earth tones. Since these colors were so close in value, I picked stamps that included details to help provide the interest/texture.

Autumn Vine

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Autumn Vine | by karen @ carefree creations

This color scheme made me think of Autumn. I wasn’t ready to break out the pumpkins yet, so I went with a vine and gingham combination. The Vine & Berry set is one of my favorites from way back.

My layout was somewhat decided by the imperfect stamping of the wheel. I used the vine to cover up the worst of the overlap. The vine is fussy cut and the sentiment is popped-up but nestled in the vine.
