CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #68
And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Filled with Smiles

With pink and green, I knew I was going to stamp flowers! Since the pink is a pale pink and the brown a dark brown, I knew the brown would take the focus, so I decided to use a large sentiment as the focal point.

I used two sizes of flowers. The larger ones are stamped twice to get a darker color pink.

This is a one-layer card – yay me! I love it when a challenge-for-me-style comes easy!

CAS Colours & Skethes Challenge #67

I’m on spring break – which means I have no idea what day it is! Apparently it is Thursday and I forgot to create a card for the latest CAS Colours & Sketch challenge – eek! Thankfully this is a great basic sketch and I was able to get a card done in no time!

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Party Words

I have a bunch of male birthdays coming up in April, so I designed a card to use for one of them.

I’ve been wanting to buy the Hardwood background stamp from StampinUp (have you seen the awesome creations out there??). But I already have 2 border stamps that are similar, so I made myself use one of them to make sure that the results would make me happy so I could skip another purchase. I am quite happy with the result (I know I wouldn’t use the Hardwood on every card, so using a border stamp a few times to create a background is no hardship).

Of course, I didn’t line it up all that well and came up with an oops. But I just used a marker to fill in the gap and you can’t even tell! Check it:

oops - mind the gap

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Calypso Flower

These colors are quite pretty together! The two blues together allow for variation, but the pop of coral is great contrast.

When stamping the wheel (I unmount my wheels), I off-stamped to get a lighter color – mostly because I wasn’t sure if I was going to stamp my sentiment on or under the gingham.

Thank You Bouquet

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Thank You Bouquet

As soon as I saw the sketch, I knew I wanted to use vellum. I decided to finally ink up a new-to-me set: So Very Grateful.

Since I wanted to keep this card SU only, I chose to watercolor the bouquet images.

Once I got everything done I realized that the sentiment just didn’t show up enough, so I decided to add another layer of vellum. I only needed to change the opacity right above the floral layer so I wrapped the additional vellum around that panel:

by karen @ carefree creations - detail

This way I achieved the desired opacity for the sentiment to be visible, but the blue of the card base still peeks through.

Cheerful Chick

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #64

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Cheerful Chick

Whew, this was a challenge! The color challenges at CCS do not allow any other colors (besides black and white) so a two color challenge is definitely stretching my muse! I must admit though, when I sat down and went through my stamp index, I came up with quite a few ideas – so I know it is possible (heck another idea is still stuck in my head, if I can grab some stamping time I will work on it)!

My sentiment was supposed to say “have a cheerful easter” but I ran out of room 😀

I watercolored the chick and egg – and I’m really happy with how the egg turned out! I chose to watercolor because that meant I could get lots of shades with just those two colors (I used the the third color, Eggplant, for my sentiment).

With Sympathy

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge: #63 – sketch.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #63

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Sympathy

I had a hard time with this sketch – but only because I couldn’t chose which stamp set to use…this is such a versatile sketch that just about anything will work!

Unfortunately I just found out a friend’s father passed away and I needed a sympathy card. I chose a floral stamp set and soft colors.

To make the crumb strip, I used one of the Apothecary Accents dies and only die cut the end. Then I used a trimmer to cut the edges straight.

I needed a bit of texture on the Crumb strip, so I embossed it. Of course the folder I chose left an un-embossed area at the top. I didn’t want to try embossing just that bit, so I used the space to add some (stamped) stitch lines.

New House

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge: #62 – colors.

2014-02-20_#62

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - New House

I needed a new house card, so when it was time to stamp for the challenge, that is the theme I used.

My repeating house image also goes along with the current One-Layer Simplicity Challenge.

For the sentiment, I wanted just “congrats” because it fit under the pink house. The actual stamp in the set says congratulations. I used a bit of tape to help mask off the un-needed letters.

Warp Speed

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Warp Speed

Since my family totally did not get my card, I thought I should explain it: the rocket is moving from the sick (green & blue colors) into the happy (yellow).

I once saw a card that used white images over color paper and because of the contrast the images really popped! I wanted that here.

The green/blue piece was done by airbrushing Copic markers onto paper. It was my first time using that contraption and I need more practice!

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #60

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Miss You Map

Love these colors! Though, I am finding that I always gravitate to something map/globe like with them. I guess I better try harder next time! Anyway, this card will be sent to my in-laws. We haven’t been home in a couple years and it has been awhile since we’ve seen them.

I colored Colorado blue because we are the ones doing the missing (and are ‘blue’). That left the green for Virginia. What a pain to cut out VA! Though, cutting out Delaware or Rhode Island would be worse!

Speaking of Rhode Island – has anyone else noticed that it is missing from this stamp image? Yep, it is…you can go look, I’ll wait. I’m not sure what happened, but I suppose it was just too small to add (though they managed Delaware).

Never Too Much Happy

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. And since January has an extra Thursday in the month, that means the latest challenge is a double!

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #59

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Never Too Much Happy

Firstly, I’m sorry I’m late in posting. Life has gotten the better of me – nothing wrong, just really busy! (I’m now volunteering a few hours every day at the local elementary school – which probably means you won’t see me on here quite as often…sigh.)

Now, on to my card. When designing this sketch, I was inspired by this packaging I found on Pinterest.

When it came time to make my card, I wanted to add those little details – the window and front trimmed a little to show the inside. Speaking of the inside:

by karen @ carefree creations - Happy inside

Getting that flower stamped just right stumped me at first (it is a tight fit to the die-cut window). I’m sure what I did do was the long way around (that seems to be my norm), but it worked. Here is how I did it:
