CASColours&SketchesBadgeIt is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge: #58 – sketch.

In coming up with the sketches for this month, I went to Pinterest and looked at my inspiration board. For this sketch, I used this image of a color-blocked guitar. Which resulted in this sketch:

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #58

And I pretty much copied the inspiration to make my card:

by karen @ carefree creations - Military Thank You

I know the guitar is painted like the Texas flag, but I didn’t want my card to be that exactly. In addition to swapping the red and white panels, I added stamping on the color blocks to help move away from the state flag.

And what luck, the current CAS-ual Friday challenge is color blocks!

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #57

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Thinking of You

Oh I had fun with this one! I’ve seen some awesome cards using the masking tape technique and decided it was time I tried it too. I inked a few lines to simulate sand.

The shells are stamped on Vanilla with Crumb Cake. Then I added a touch of watercolor with the Rose and Plum colors.

This will be another OWH card.

Balloon Filled Year

CAS Colours & Sketches challenge is back! And I’m the hostess for January. This first week is a sketch challenge; check it out: #56 – sketch.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #56

This sketch was inspired by a Bug’s Life poster I found on Pinterest.

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Balloon Filled Year

I had an idea for this sketch as soon as I designed it, but when it came time to actually get stamping for it, I had forgotten my original design. Then I remembered this card by Debby @ lime doodle. I love that the balloons are at the bottom of the card (and not at the top where ‘expected’). I pinned that card months ago but since I didn’t want to just copy it I hadn’t gotten around to casing it. But now is the time!

I chose not to mask the balloons because mylar balloons are translucent.

I’m still deciding if I should have added strings to the balloons, but I was afraid they would take away from the design.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #55

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Always Been You

Sketches with layers always confound me! I’m a pretty clean and simple stamper, not very layer-y 🙂 So, as usual, when I get a sketch that confounds me, I went to my stamp index and favorite cards. I found a card I did eons ago that used playing cards – perfect!

I made these playing cards using different stamps. I’ve actually done this before – I like making the playing cards because you can tailor them to the colors and design you want for your card.

Christmas Cheer

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge: #54 – colors.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #54

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Christmas Cheer

Once I got the stop light card out of my system (posted yesterday), I needed to move on to a card that had stamping!

I really like how the red and green drinks are up near “Christmas” in the greeting, and the yellow drink (think champagne) is near “New Year”.

Speaking of the sentiment. It is normally grunge-y (meaning it isn’t a “solid” image), but that meant it wasn’t bold enough for me. I fixed that by using a marker and filling in where the stamp had open spots. I couldn’t do “happy” justice enough as it was too fine a line (and my marker is not), but this is better than without!

I’ve loved the projects I’ve seen using the stripe embossing folder, but could never figure out when to use it. I’m so glad I tried it for this card – it really was the perfect accent!

It is hard to see, but I did add glitter to the bits between stripes on the embossed background:

Christmas Joy

Today is Thanksgiving in the United States. Confession – I am 41 and I don’t think I’ve ever cooked Thanksgiving all by myself…until now. Fingers crossed for me 🙂

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge: #53 – sketch.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #53

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Christmas Joy

I decided to use stamping on this card to keep the layers down.

The pine bough at the top didn’t stamp fully. Instead of starting over, I filled-in, free-hand, with a marker of very similar color. Even in person, you’d have to know to look for it to find it. I’m not complimenting my skill, rather, encouraging you to try it next time a stamp doesn’t fully impress (if it doesn’t work, you haven’t lost anything).

Since I stretched the sketch to be an A2 instead of square, I chose to “add” the space at the bottom and not center the Joy panel. Also, my wheel stamps are the same size width, but I think visually the difference in color and density helps add weight.

Very simple card – and I’m quite happy with it!

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #51

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Gobble Turkey

I stamped this last weekend while I was making all my Thanksgiving cards. This turkey image is so fun – I love using it!

The footprints are from another set and I think if I use them again, I’ll cut them apart so it is only 1 set of feet per impression…right now it sorta looks like a four-legged bird creature made those tracks lol!

This card is 4 x 5 1/2.

Fabulous Birthday

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge: #50 – colors.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #50

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Fabulous Birthday

This card is a mesh of a few items on my pinterest board (link on right).

I die-cut the circle from the blue panel and stamped the sentiment through the hole directly onto the card base. I stamped the blue panel with a pattern and popped it onto the card base.

The flowers are generational inkings from Soft Suede.

When I was done I thought the card needed another touch – so I added the brown strips to the edges.

The card itself is a little smaller than an A2: 5 1/4 x 4.

5th Thursday

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. There is an extra Thursday in the month of October – and that means today’s challenge is a double: #49 – sketch & colors.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #49

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Thank You Flowers

I’ll admit, this sketch threw me – just so many options to fill in the focal panel. I really wanted to do something a little unexpected.

For the focal panel, I chose a large bold sentiment (so large it falls over the card base edge both top and bottom!); and stamped the flowers where the smaller rectangle would be. I love that this is is just one additional layer (do you count mats when counting layers?).

Speaking of layers – mine might be a bit wonky….my trimmer finally gave up a couple days ago. And I don’t have a backup! Good thing I have a t-ruler 🙂 Hopefully by next week I’ll have not only a working trimmer, but a backup too!
